Man you guys are OBSESSED with dual core processors in phones.

plus, doesn't EVO 4G with extended battery have decent life?

why buy something that is going to be out of date in 2 weeks?

My stock Evo battery will last between 8-12 hours. That's with wifi/gps on, and a fair amount of texting/youtube/internet browsing. With my 3500mah extended battery, I can get a few days, 2-3, of charge the way I use my phone. Lately I have been using the stock battery, as I prefer that form factor to the extended battery.

Expect to charge your phone regularly though, especially if you are using it a lot. I plan on getting a car dock for my Evo, so I can charge while I am on the go. That will especially help as I use the GPS navigation a lot and that is a huge killer on the battery.

dual core is not needed BUT with rumors of honeycomb requiring dual core and with Verizon changing their upgrade policy so that you cannot get a discounted phone annually, the next phone I get is kind of crucial. Besides, dual core processors save battery life and that is a big deal to me.

Any phone with an extended battery has decent life. That's not really the point.

I'm the guy with a broken phone btw. If I still had my Moto Droid, I wouldn't care too much about CES. I really miss having a smartphone.

I really doubt honeycomb will find its way on to many phones, if any. its a radical ui revamp that wont make sense for our phones. im betting we'll be getting ice cream/jellybean, with one of those being a hybrid update to sort of bridge the ui gap between the two.

Is anyone else getting the perpetual Marketplace error? Now whenever I try to buy an app I get "A server error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen."

Using a Nexus One with stock Froyo and the new Marketplace. Looked around online and it seems a lot of people are having this issue, but I haven't seen any solutions that don't involve a factory reset. Meh.

yea, that's why it's dumb not to buy a phone based on rumors.

single core phones will be obsolete in 2 weeks? :lol Tell that to Nexus S owners or future owners of the HTC Thunderbolt. People have been freaking out over dual core for like a year now and we still have no dual phones.

Well, that’s why the Nexus S was a bit underwhelming.

The Optimus 2X was just announced for a 1Q release. Tegra 2s will be all over the place through Summer.

I wouldn't say announced... Q1 release was the author's opinion.

Edit: according to LG, first half of 2011

I'm hoping sooner tho. Phone looks amazing.

I was having some issues with the new marketplace when I was on 2.2 with the N1. But since putting 2.3 on there, I haven't noticed any issues with the new marketplace. Don't know what it is.

Holy shit, ATT is bringing the pain:

samsung-infuse-4g-ofc.jpg

First introduced just last year on the Wave, it feels like Super AMOLED was just starting to get its sea legs... but here we go again: Samsung's latest handset -- announced today in collaboration with AT&T at CES -- is the first to tout "Super AMOLED Plus" technology that features a 50 percent boost in sub-pixel count, promising improvements both in contrast and outdoor readability. Maybe more importantly, the display clocks in at a whopping 4.5 inches, besting HTC's 4.3-inch range (the EVO 4G, Desire HD, and likely the Thunderbolt) without getting dangerously close to Dell Streak territory. It's got an 8 megapixel camera on back paired with a 1.3 megapixel shooter up front, a 1.2GHz single-core Hummingbird processor, and still somehow promises to be the thinnest smartphone on AT&T when it launches at a to-be-determined date. Now, the controversy: despite the name, the Infuse 4G apparently doesn't have a hint of LTE -- it's HSPA+, which means AT&T's now playing the same game as T-Mobile.

We've had a brief chance to play with an early Infuse 4G dummy unit, so we weren't able to turn it on, but we got a pretty good impression of how it feels. Basically, we came away encouraged that 4.5 inches isn't going to feel too big for practical use -- if you're accustomed to something like an EVO, you probably won't skip a beat (that's undoubtedly due in part to the fact that the Infuse seems to be quite a bit thinner). We're told the tastefully textured matte rear cover that we saw wasn't final, but we're crossing our fingers that the retail unit doesn't diverge far from what they've done here, because it felt exceptionally high-quality and looked a whole lot better than the typical glossy plastic on the existing Galaxy S series. Speaking of Galaxy S, the Infuse is described as "a Galaxy S phone" -- so yeah, that brand isn't going away any time soon. Software-wise, we obviously weren't able to get a feel for speed on the non-functional model, but you can expect the usual TouchWiz skin atop Android 2.2; sure, Gingerbread would've been nice at launch, but you can dry your tears on that 1.2GHz silicon.

Uhhh no. The LG Optimus is dual core. And Motorola.

Optimus Black is dual core? the 2X or whatever is dual core but I don't believe it was shown at CES yet.

and shiiiiiiit, that Moto Atrix is awesome. HUGE battery, dual core, and 1GB RAM.

The 2X was shown in the exact same presentation that the Black was.

It's a shame that it isn't launching with gingerbread at the get go.
I agree. I am holding out hope though that Gingerbread will be a couple months out and then honeycomb later in '11. Moto needs to be on the ball with this (IMO) in order to make sure that it stays competitive and frankly, this being their flagship phone, they will.

engadget sez:

First 4G tablet coming from Motorola and will be here in second half (it's HSPA+, though, not LTE). Honeycomb, 10.1-inch NVIDIA Tegra 1GHz dual core processor. More to come at the Motorola event, apparently.

I'm on month 16 of my 24 and it still tells me I will pay retail price if I try to upgrade. :lol Guess that late payment or two disqualified me. Verizon that is.

Yes, ITU deemed HSPA+ 4G. T-Mobile does it as well.
No, HSPA+ is 3.5G
100Mb and full IP support is required for a real 4G standard

HSPA+ has been around here in Sweden for years and never been marketed as 4G :lol

T-Mobile is offering me an upgrade online about 6 months early, and they have the Samsung Vibrant for free right now. Seeing all these single core phones being announced makes me tempted to spring for it now (replacing my old MyTouch 3G) so that I can benefit from that early 6 months.

That new samsung 4.5" ATT phone is probably equivalent to the rumored Vibrant+ from TMO. Not sure it's worth waiting for (or paying an extra $200 for)...

yeah, really. I got in touch w/ him, he mentioned that the Atrix has a 4' in. display, 16GB internal storage, dual cameras, 1930 mAh battery and a damn fingerprint scanner

I thought he was shitting me on that last bit, but it's true, apparently

How expensive is the G2 for you? If you are in any way interested by physical keyboards, it's heaven.

Ugh I really do hope Verizon gets a vanilla Google phone. I am not wasting my time on phones with skins.

I used to agree with you, but HTC really stepped their game up with the latest Sense.

Sense is by far the best skin out there, hopefully Google nails the design of Android with Honeycomb. I want to use that as my standard and if I feel like using anything else, I'll root it and use a rom.

I've heard good things, but I'm not interested in a physical keyboard. Apparently the G2, MT4G, and Vibrant can all be had for free right now by calling TMO; only the Vibrant is showing free online for me.
