I really hope the Atrix has a resolution bump.

It's a 4 inch screen right?

It was described as a qHD (quarter HD) display given that quarter resolution of 720p gives you 640 x 360, I can only imagine it is quarter resolution of 1080p which is 960 x 540.

yea, that's why it's dumb not to buy a phone based on rumors.

single core phones will be obsolete in 2 weeks? :lol Tell that to Nexus S owners or future owners of the HTC Thunderbolt. People have been freaking out over dual core for like a year now and we still have no dual phones.

i would tell that to them, which is why the nexus s was a bad decision. Just because someone bought a phone doesnt mean its not obsolete technology wise.

any word on release of teh atrix?

edit - 1Q 2011 ... all over it. Its a beast of a phone

No, HSPA+ is 3.5G
100Mb and full IP support is required for a real 4G standard

HSPA+ has been around here in Sweden for years and never been marketed as 4G :lol

The issue here is that T-Mobile HSPA+ actually beats the current Sprint 4G. The naming is irrelevant. WiMax and LTE aren't even 4G neither ... nothing is at this point, at least going by the previous ITU spec.

LTE and maybe WiMax are expected to eventually scale to 4G speeds, which is why everyone advertises it as such. But HSPA+ still has the ability to scale however. Not to what LTE will eventually hit, but at this point the high-speed HSPA+ coverage areas are equal if not faster then current WiMax implementations.

Admittedly Verizon's new LTE offering beats both handily, but in its current implementation the speeds are not beyond what HSPA+ could scale to.

Well, I guess I should throw my iPhone 4 in the toilet. And my friends should all throw their iPhone 3GS, Droid Incredible, Droids, Droid 2s, Droid Xs, Evo 4Gs, etc. out in other rash ways.

Shit, why is att getting the good phones. I'm ready to jump ship to sprint and all the hot stuff gets announced for att.

If they're losing iPhone exclusivity, they have to actually compete now.

Just because AT&T was up first with the conference, I'm sure at least Verizon will have comparable phones.

I do want that HTC phone. I am tired of Samsung's shortcomings.

iPhone 4 had a good run.

My 3GS is really, really gimped in the tooth and I cannot wait to pick up the Moto phone.

well then obsolete may be a bad word. Old technology. No need to throw a temper tantrum because there are faster phones going to be available.

with a better resolution display and a dual core processor with tegra 2 the iphone 4 no longer holds any hardware advantages over android (well their camera still is probably better, its a damn good camera).

Yeah, I'm an X owner as well and so far nothing is making me feel like I am missing anything. And trust me, seeing a bunch of high tech state of the art phones being flashed in my face in this thread should.. :lol

By the time my upgrade is due in the middle of next year the dust will be settled anyhow and after owning my X since launch has me perfectly happy.

Front facing camera? Useless

Dual Core CPU? Nice I guess....But what is that doing for me that I can't already do now besides destroy my battery? Play games? Angry Birds runs fine? Gingerbread will too.

Normally I eat this shit up and start salivating but right now I am getting a more of a "That's it?" vibe. I should be able to milk the power of my X for a long time to come, but for the new people jumping into Android - You guys got a great year ahead.

Look, no one is saying these phones are obsolete. But for example, buying an iphone 4 in May when the next iteration of the iphone's release is imminent is not a good decision. Buying an iphone 4 AFTER the release of iphone 5 (at a lower price point) is a much better decision.

I wouldn't buy an android phone until after CES to get a better idea of what phones will be out. I would love to have a Droid X right now, but not when it currently costs the same as when it did in July.

dual core saves battery life.

EDIT: Okay fair enough. but I think my point stands.

i said obsolete, was a poor choice of words

This is all underwhelming so far, except for that Motorola.

- Dual Core Tegra 2 + 1GB RAM
- 16GB On-Board Memory + 32GB Expandable
- 4-inch, 960 x 540 screen
- 5MP Camera + HDMI Out
- ~2000 mAh Battery

God tier confirmed. Will buy day 1.

Only thing that could make it better is a 4.3 inch screen IMO.

EDIT: and an 8MP Camera

The iphone 4 hasn't had a hardware advantage for quite some time now... nevermind all this dual core nonsense

what was beating it? The samsung? The hummingbird is an A8 is it not, with the iphone being an a9 variant? No android phone currently available beats its resolution as well.

damn vga front facing.

all the preloaded ATT garbage with no side loading, the phone is still worth it, xda will be all over it

Whats this webtop stuff too? I guess we will hear about it at the moto conference. Looks like they are trying to make the phone turn into a tablet/netbook when in its docking station. I'm assuming this is where the 1gb ram comes in.

I'm just happy it has one.

Although I don't know how much video calling I'll be doing which isn't that big of a deal to me.

Fingerprint reader is fantastic and something more phones should have. It's better than a password.

What's up with no phones matching the retina display?

I think Apple has a exclusivity contract with the manufacturer of the screen? That's just my assumption.

yeah, it has one, thats the important part. I dont know how much video calling i'll be doing, but its nice to have a choice

retina display is just a marketing term. It really is just a resolution that's large enough that the human eye cannot see the individual pixels.

Android phones are starting to come out with them tho I don't know which one on the top of my head.

there are android phones with better than 960x640?

Jesus christ, just when you thought ATT didn't give a shit about android, this happens.

I can't wait to see what verizon has it store now.

Also, it looks like android will dominate 2011 like it did with 2010.

Well I can't wait for all the problems I'll have with this phone but damn does it sound like a beast on paper and looks slick to boot. :lol

Hope we hear more on battery life considering it's larger than the Droid X battery + it has the DC processor in it.

nope i was wrong, noticed that after the last post.

I'm also a Droid X owner and got my phone when it first launched and I agree the FFC doesn't mean much to me, but the Dual Core CPU could potentially save battery life and gaming on Android has yet to really take off so I'm good for another year imo, can't wait to see what comes out next March when I can upgrade.

Moto phone is ball'n internal specs wise. Still annoys the ever loving shit out of me that gingerbread is out and yet they are announcing phones with froyo. Fucking pissed me off to the core.

Whats with the complete lack of non-cell phone non-tablet Android based media players. Currently out - there's only the Archos 43, two announced - Samsung Galaxy Player and the Cowon D3...who knows when they'll be out.

Guess all the companies jumped from competing with the iPod to the iPad.

Atrix has the "Blur" logo on the back. Moto has been workin on Blur for some time. Pretty sure they can't just plop it on to 2.3.

I'm liking the tagline "Redefining the line between a phone and a laptop." We are so close to not needing laptops. This could seriously push me back to iPhone someday if Apple makes a future iPhone that doubles as a laptop when docked.

I bought my evo day 1. I'm ready to upgrade. I'm really interested in that 4.8 inch screen Acer. I also want to see what HP is coming out with even though I have very little faith left in HP/palm/webos

I agree. Use bluetooth for keyboard/mouse and HDMI to a monitor and there you are, a laptop.

did you see the laptop dock? Its an 11.5" monitor and keyboard that you dock the phone into and you use it like that. It has a firefox installation on it... its their webtop stuff, but i have no idea the details, hopefully hear more on it at moto's conference

I think you meant CPUs based on ARM Cortex A8. Both SoCs have it and on that front they are more or less the same (just like OMAPs in Droid 2/Droid X and 1Ghz Snapdragons). There are no phones avalible with ARM Cortex A9 yet as far as I know.
But Galaxy S SoC has better GPU (PowerVR SGX 540) than iPhone (PowerVR SGX 535) and opinions that Galaxy S SoC has advantage over iPhone' one are correct.

Finally really awesome Android phones on AT&T. Now it's time to decide on which of the three I want. I like Sense more than MotoBlur, but the Dual-Core of the Atrix makes the techie in me happy. I have nothing against TouchWiz and I do love Samsung's Super AMOLED (now plus) screens, and it has a 1.2 GHz processor... Decisions decisions.

I've got a Droid X also, day 1. but i really want something else now. I was looking at the thunderbolt but that new motorola is insane cant wait to see whats announced tomorrow, but guess ill be holding off till the summer or later to buy something else

Yeah would be awesome if it were stock android, and I'm sure the bootloader is locked down.

having a bootloader locked down mean you can't install a custom rom? I'm unfamiliar with this concept.
