I was just looking at the wiki for the film, and the film spent almost a decade in production, mainly due to the animation. The backgrounds just look so intricate and stylized compared to other Disney stuff from the same period.

Is there a website with high resolution screens of his paintings? I only find small ones via google.
 
Looks like bad costly.

On the other hand, love the Sleeping Beauty stills. One of my wife's favorite Disney movies. So much style :)
 
Seeing as though it shares a production designer with Alice in Wonderland, I have to think they're going to base the design off Earle's work. It would be stupid not to.

But God willing, this won't end up being a cinematic abortion like Alice.

Bill has gone on record in saying that he tried to buy the rights to The Charmings, but couldn't make a deal.

Exactly what I came in here to post, Earle's backgrounds are phenomenal. I have the "Layouts and Backgrounds" edition of the Disney Archive Series of books and Earle's Sleeping Beauty work is featured prominently.

I'll be bitterly disappointed if they don't work from is backgrounds in some way.

It didn't, it looked like crap...until Blu-ray version was released. Looks amazing.

Ah if only Angelica Houston got a shot at this when she was younger. That's the only way this could be sexier. Maybe a less gaunt Jolie. Anyway, I hope she's really fucking deliciously evil and vampy.
 
Great casting choice. Really evokes that Maleficent vibe, and she's desirable...yet creepy. I'm so conflicted and god! This is going to be interesting.

I think it's ridiculous that people are so uncritically latching on to the notion that the OUaT creators did anything that needs to be defended. He's completely right in that interview.

It's great to see they're sticking close to Maleficent's classic look, at least in terms of the horns. I've been anticipating this movie since I learned of it months ago on Wikipedia. I'm glad it's actually being made. That teaser shot looks promising.
