eeeeeeeeh. Not a fan of Chris Lilley. We can be heroes was alright, but he's too over the top for me. I just find him (and his nose) annoying. Might give it a look in but the Japanese character really turned me off.

2nd point: I'm conflicted. I'm politically conservative, but I do support arts funding since quality or specific kinds of art can die out if they aren't preserved.

Well, from what I hear its the conservatives in Aus who pump more money into Aussie films.
But you just have to watch the movies Australia has pumped out in the last few years to see where the industry's headed (See: Japanese story, Jindabyne and all the other depressing movies. It'd be nice to see some comedy again). I really recommend the castle.

And if your interested in Aussie drama, you can't go past underbelly. Though the appeal it had on me was largely due to watching it unfold in the papers at the same time (its based on Melbourne's gangland war)...

~15 minutes until the premiere (in Aus).

Seeing more of the characters has made me more optimistic. The prison warden could be great value.

Pretty good. Some of the stuff with the twins was grating, but better than I expected.

Gran's introduction was excellent, the connection with the twins didn't feel forced either.

I'm interested to see what the reception/reactions from the Americans will be, particularly to next weeks episode...

Is good!

Man, the race stuff is gonna get attacked so much though lol.
I think they wanted Gran to say "nigger" but realised that would just be too much for our American cousins to handle so they had to settle for "negro".

The Aboriginal lines were amazing though. I'll be surprised if someone doesn't try and make a big deal out of it.

Yeah, the rapper character could get a real bollocking. I wasn't that impressed by the promo footage of that character but hopefully the real thing is better.

Still, The Thick of It remains the best political satire on TV.

Agreed.

So how did this first episode stack up? I found We Can Be Heroes to be a boring show (save for Ja'mie) but Summer Heights High was incredible.

More of the latter I hope?

I'd say it's more We Can Be Heroes than Summer Heights High at this stage. Broader range of characters whose stories will likely come together somehow and more story driven than SHH.

I dunno how i felt about it, Gran near the start was just amazing though. The twins were fairly boring.
Having watched the 8 minute preview trailer, i think Danthan could be there just to link all the other characters together.

I hope Jonah appears at the prison at some point

My feelings for both those shows are basically the same and I enjoyed the first episode of this, it's certainly showing a lot of promise.

I agree with this too, but there were a lot more laughs in this first episode than most of WCBH (if we exclude the Jamie stuff, of course).

Oh my god some of this shit is not going to go down well with a lot of people (particularly in America I can imagine) but I found it hilarious. Gran is fantastic.

Did this just air now in Aus?

I need to watch this now!!!

Anyone know how I can watch it online? The official ABC website has it but can't watch it in Canada :(

Can't find a proxy that works.

Ahh ok. Prob going to give it some time before it hits online. I can't find it right now. If anyone does, please PM. :\

I can't wait till it hits HBO here.

If you can get your proxy working I think its usually some time tomorrow (maybe 12am?) that the episodes go up online. I think.

EDIT: Wait, its on there already, but I don't know what (if any) proxies work with it.

I'm worried how this will fare in international markets. It just seems so un-PC.

I know there's a lot of tolerance for that on our television networks but I am not sure how it will go anywhere else. We'll see
