Angry Joe - Angry Rant on Tomb Raider

Accepting financial stability and free marketing from a console manufacturer rather than take on all the risk and hope the market is healthy enough to recoup your costs and turn a profit.

Those bastards!

Glad they care so much about their consumers and TR fan base. Hopefully they can continue these deals that cut out 50%+ of the franchise fan base.

In fact I hope this industry continues to make decisions that negatively impacts overall consumers. Because this industry really doesn't need consumers.

neat. i've always wanted to have a particularly ill thought out GAF post screamed in my face for ten minutes.

And now you can!

Man, I wasn't this angry about Microsoft buying Bungie and Halo, and I was a diehard Apple fanboy at the time. People need to chilll. But apparently this guys' schtick must be upheld.

I thought he was going to leave Youtube over the whole ContentID thing?

Don't you know they are supposed to send their game to die vs uncharted 4 so people can feel better about their console purchase. Get with the program dude who cares if sales tank because it is over shadowed by uncharted 4 and they end the series.

Send it out on all platforms at the same time
>PS4 sales might be down b/c of UC4,
>Xbone/PC do usual sales for a TR game on the platform

What they're doing
>Pissing off PC AND PS4 fans(the two biggest fan-bases of TR) by making it timed exclusive to a console who comes in last in TR games sold

> Possibly creating a "Uncharted killer" narrative b/c of the Xbox timed exclusivity

If it fails to live up to that title

>Stuck on the console who sells the least TR games.
>PS4 players might end waiting for bargin bin deals
>PC players waiting for bargin bin deals
>Series ends up with the stigma of not beating Uncharted and slowly falls into irrelevancy on PS consoles like Killzone for not being the "Halo killer"

You say the game was guaranteed dead if it was out on all platforms at the same time yet only one platform's would be affected. With the way it is now the two biggest fanbases would be affected. Nice logic

I actually like Angry Joe, probably because I believe he's being 100% sincere. That alone makes him a refreshing change in this age of 'say anything for clicks'.

It is flipping timed exclusive so it cuts out no one. It makes me laugh how people get so over dramatic over a flipping 6 month timed exclusive. And it is one of the rare exclusives now days. You would of flipped a lid if you gamed in the old days where there were 100's of exclusive game each generation for different platforms. We are talking real exclusives not a short timed ones. I am a PS4 only gamer this new generation and I am not mad in the least. I will be to busy playing uncharted 4. Then in the dead winter time of gaming pick up TR for the PS4.

Wish you would explain why you think people are wrong instead of dismissing everyone critical of this deal as ill thought out, but okay.

You do know that it sold more on the 360 than PC right? The PC is behind PS3,PS4 and 360 in sales of the game.

PS4 gamers were going to wait for the bargin bin anyways as they will be playing uncharted 4. . PC gamers well they always look for the bargin bin. So either way it makes no difference except they get a big old money hat for their troubles. So bad sales and money hats or bad sales and no money hats not a tough choice.

Good god in heaven do I not care about this issue.

I'm sure that there are individuals out there who could explain why this situation is unique among others, and I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that they could articulate those thoughts in a reasonable, intelligent way.

But putting those few users aside, broadly speaking the level of Microsoft hate has reached retard levels, to the point where we're really getting up in arms about (timed) platform exclusivity?

Yeah, so what? New Tomb Raider game, exclusive to Xbox this holiday season. Sounds like an entirely logical line of reasoning, that isn't new to the industry by any stretch of the imagination. Microsoft figured they could really use another reason to buy an Xbox. Hey, Tomb Raider, that's a big IP. Let's pay the Tomb Raider people lots of money so that their game hits our system at a very profitable time of year.

I'm an X1 owner and I'm mad because it doesn't benefit me one bit. X1 owners were always going to get Tomb Raider. Even if it's timed exclusive it's cutting out 50%+ of TR fan base from playing a series they are already invested in during the holiday season and for half a year (possibly more).

Holiday season is important for consumers. It's when they get time to play games and money to buy them. Yes this isn't as bad as 100% exclusivity. But it's still a decision that negatively impacts a lot of gamers. But if these companies want to make decisions that benefit them at the cost of negatively impacting consumers...then by all means.

But I do not want sequel sniping (even if timed) to become the norm.

Respectfully....are you serious? Yeah, dude, we all understand the bummer element to this story - Tomb Raider fan on Sony systems? Bad news for you this year.

But so frickin what? That's sort of the entire point. Holiday season IS important for customers. It IS when they get the time and money for games. Can you understand how a company MIGHT find it a good idea to have one of the more popular games ONLY on their system at that particular time of year?

I can understand that they think it's worth negatively impacting a lot of gamers. Look sequel sniping isn't common. Let's not act like this specific kind of exclusivity happens often. It doesn't. And there is plenty of exclusivity deals to be made that don't negatively impact consumers.

So yes, I still think these kind of deals are bad for the industry overall.

Game will still be made for other platforms. Your point again being...

mY point is that " if " have nothing to do in this situation

"if that was sony" , "if that was nintendo " and so on.
There is no"if" , only facts . Does the others do the same things , yes or no ? bringing "ifs" to shift the perspective into a more favorable light for you is meaningless.. When , at this point of time , only One is hindering the others. It doesn't even matters if it will come to other platforms later at this point.

It happened once and because of a timing situation. If TR was a fall 2014 game the deal does not happen. If it was a fall 2016 title it would of not happened. But it happened to be fall 2015 against the leading game of the genre owned and backed by the platform holder. If you think any multiplatform game I won't even add in cross generation can compete with ND you are nuts. All people will talk about after E3 2015 will be holy bleep did you see the uncharted 4 footage.

I'd rather MS invest their money in new IPS or securing exclusive new third party titles than sniping away a multiplat sequel that impacts a lot of people. I guess we just don't agree on this. That's okay.

Actually we agree on this. I don't think this move makes much sense for MS at all but the best move for SE. I wish MS would invest more in first party or new 3rd party IPs. The NFL money could of funded a lot of games. I got a 360 with in 6 months of launch and really enjoyed the platform for many years. All I am saying that a rare timed exclusive is nothing for people to rage over. People are so quick to rage they don't see the point of view of the publisher in this case.

I don't see the publisher's point of view at all, Tomb Raider went through a horrible spell since the end of the PS1 era falling into near irrelevancy until the reboot and so to build on the franchise recent surge in popularity they... limit the game to the userbase it was less popular on a console that's selling half of it's opposition... WHAT!?

Because as others with level heads have pointed out the game would of been an after thought to the vast majority of PS4 owners thanks to Uncharted 4. The options are limited by this. They could hire a lot more staff and sink in a lot more money to speed up development to pre-E3 2015. Also the game would be a lot less polished. They could delay the game for everyone till early 2016 after the shadow of uncharted 4 is lifted. Or they can accept a big money hat release it on schedule for 2 platforms. Then release it on 3 others 6 months later. I think the choice is not to hard to figure out when you look at the situation. I know many here would be happy to see it sent to die vs uncharted just so they can play it sooner. Sales that will affect if the series continues be damned only playing it sooner matters.

Only 1 platform would've taken a hit sales wise. You still have 4 platforms that the game is on that won't be affected by UC4. With the current deal, you're pissing off 3 communities by delaying their game because for some reason UC4 and TR2 are comparable.

Funny how many people are in here that don't get the concept. I'm glad people like Angry Joe are speaking out against this garbage. MS can get their exclusive, it doesn't "anger" me, but many of us choose to express our distaste for the tactic. I'm glad people call Square Enix/CD for their bullshit. I don't care if they take a moneyhat, but I damn well am going to express my displeasure.

Again, as a gamer and consumer, I gained nothing from this, no one really did. Some people who were going to have access to the game, still have access to it. Some people who were going to have access to the game, no longer have access to it.

MS should go work on adding something of value to both the industry and their new console, instead of playing the cockblocker extraordinaire.

For the record, I did not really care for the Tomb Raider reboot, so I wasn't really looking forward to this.

Again, my displeasure has nothing to do with fanboy agendas or the specifics of this game, it is the Microsoft STRATEGY I don't like.

The new president just seems to be all about short term gain to make shareholders happy. After Wada, I can't necessarily blame him. It is incredibly short sighted though. Just like Square Enix shifting so much focus to the mobile market. That's what happens when your president used to be the main person in charge of finances though I guess.

Yes, because the rest of the market will never get to play this luxury item.

I'd much rather more developers potentially lose their jobs.

Except that 1 platform in 2015 will be the most important. Last I heard the PC was under 1 million out of the 6.5 million sold. Also PC gamers are used to these short delays if they did not buy games because of a short delay well they would not buy many games. The PS3 user base has been buying less and less games. The PS4 will have to carry game sales plain and simple. If a game in 2015 tanks on the PS4 well it is a bomb. So going head to head with the best game of the genre that happens to be owned by the platform holder is not smart business.

The games are as comparable as NBA 2k and NBA live series.
