Lol

I still don't think Murray is at todd's level. Just watch when the next Bethesda game gets announce and Todd is up on stage spouting all this shit and mostly everyone will eat it up.

Murray will not have this benefit and will probably learn from his mistake.

Also, folks, sorry to poke the open wound, but if you got burned by this game, then please, for all that is good, stop blindly preordering games. Preferably, stop day-one'ing games as well to take some pressure off reviewers. Let this be a lesson. Remember this feeling of anger and betrayal well.

They never will, there's always some excuse that they give because they can't wait 5 minutes for something.

I still don't think Murray is at todd's level..

He's definitely not. Murray isn't at Molyneux, Wright or Todd's level.

He was on the path, but nowadays people make so much more noise about shit like this (and the internet forgets even less than it used to) that I think he's going to be scared out of making any grand promises forever more.

I actually think he is worse than Molyneux. With Molyneux, it was mainly overambition that didn't come to fruition. However, Murray deliberately lied and deceived people right up until the day of release. They used these falsely created expectations even on release day to sell the game.

It almost seems as if the man is incapable of saying no to anyone.

From having read about how Molyneux actually operated it's difficult to really classify it as overambitious. He would go out to trade shows and just say stuff, then try to get it implemented after (according to the articles about Lionhead after it closed)

I'll fully agree that it's not as bad as what Murray did, he straight out lied. Molyneux was more irresponsible than overambitious, especially since he continued doing it for years.

I still think:

1. He wasn't deliberately lying in any pre-2016 interview. It's ridiculous he was still vague and terrible at communication right around release, thoough.

2. He's anywhere near as bad as Molyneux.

Molyneux:
- promised an ocean of breadth and fathoms of depth
- we got a puddle of breadth and 20 feet of depth

Murray:

- promised an ocean of breadth and fathoms of depth
- we got an ocean of breadth! ... It was just a couple of feet deep

I still think Murray delivered on what he promised way more. The majority of words he said about the game focused on the breadth of the universe, on exploration, on survival - and all of those things were definitely delivered (even if they weren't that fun).

The whole terrible communication thing, right up to release, is a whole other kettle of fish (like besides the bad information management) and I hope he rectifies it soon with an announcement or open letter or something.

Another spot on review. His experience almost exactly mirrored mine, except that he stuck with it far longer than I did.

And that ending. I'd be pissed as hell if that's all there was.

Murray gets extra Molyneux points for actually mockingly referring to Molyneux in a video. That's a level of in-your-face I can't quantify.

He was in Molyneux-mode up until 2016. After that he went into "lies and deceit"-mode, used the falsely created expectations to sell the game right until the first day of release. Murray only stopped when people began to call him out on his bs with very specific questions. And instead of giving the much needed answers, he went completely radio silent, leaving it to some delusional fanboys to continue the crusade for him on the interwebs.

I disagree. Quantitiy isn't everything - and that's all that NMS delivered. And even that quantity isn't as revolutionary anymore once people realized that NMS' universe isn't seamless but just a lot of skyboxes, each containing a handful of planets. The diversity of the flora and fauna isn't nearly what was (and still is!) promised in the various trailers. After all is said and done, the procedurally generated world of NMS isn't all that impressive.

In comparison, pretty much all of Molyneux' games are actually fun to play games despite missing the most ambitious features or only having them in some reduced form. The games themselves were still pretty good. From the early masterpieces and pioneer work to Fable 3, which still is a better product than NMS.

The whole terrible communication thing, right up to release, is a whole other kettle of fish (like besides the bad information management) and I hope he rectifies it soon with an announcement or open letter or something.
Again: it's a bit baffling how you keep downplaying this as a "terrible communication thing". It was straight up lies and deceit. It was not an accident, no honest mistake, no clumsily worded tweets - he deliberately lied to sell his game. Period. There is nothing to rectify. It's too late for an apology, too.

People really overestimate Blizzard appeal. Heroes of the Storm would be a huge juggernaut by now.

Battleborn is just not that good...

I mean don't get me wrong, Bliz has a good reputation and there are people who wouldn't give Battleborn the time of day because of the developer (Myself included, I'm sure I'm in a huge minority though).

I don't think either was a big enough factor to make or break either title.

Murray is the independent dev version of Todd Howard or Peter Molyneux, if he was in AAA company to announce his game, he would be the carbon copy of TH or PM.
