Yeah this absolutely destroys everything in 08 by a considerable margin.

"what" has the vinly in V0, which is better than 320 (for space saving purposes and highest quality, as 320 is overkill and unnecessary)

the 320 isn't legit anyways I just found out. someone transcoded the 160...psh.

my thoughts on the album:

HOW IN THE HELL IS A BAND THIS GODDAMN CONSISTENT AFTER 9 GODDAMN ALBUMS. I WANT TO TAKE THEIR MAGIC POWERS INTO A BASKETBALL AND PUT TOGETHER MY OWN SUPER GROUP WITH THOSE POWERS.

The wait for the vinyl is officially UNBEARABLE.

who ever reads atease and made a comment about me regarding Sean J

He really did leak the album, I promise you. He is ACFan. That's why I'm fucking around with him, cause he is going to do the FLAC rip

Woo! Charm City love!

Merriweather is also the best venue ever, simply because it was the only place where Zep and The Who played in the same concert. The fact that I live 5 minutes away from it has nothing to do with it.

Sean J did it? Nice.

And holy crap there are just so many hooks and fantastic riffs packed into this sucker.

"Am I really all the things that are outside of me?"

and ALL of summertime clothes

and brothersport

and I can just go on.

AHHH I want to dissect it, but I can only listen to so much at once!

Unfortunately, I've only heard the album once. Mostly because I only got one listen on my trek to the theatre and to the bus stop. Just enough time for one listen. I'm so excited to hear it again that I am thinking about not hanging out with my friend just so I can give it another good listen. :lol

There's a higher quality rip now available.

The upgrade is absolutely worth it if you have decent speakers or headphones.

HOLY. SHIT.

As of 8am EST the highest quality rip is 160 kbps cd promo. everything else is a transcode.

Really, bloody good. Not a big fan of Strawberry Jam, it was spotty and incoherent. Sung Tongs is my favorite of theirs.. This sounds really fucking magical, though. It's a bit sad that we all KNOW they will achieve a 'breakthrough' of sorts into the mainstream hipster scene with this album and the INEVITABLE big bad backlash that comes with it will be highly taxing, but for now: Let's enjoy the culmination of the symbiosis between Avey Tare's hyperactivity and Panda Bear's blissed out harmonies. Finally they got it right and finally Sung Tongs got a contender for me.

They've been a highlight of the mainstream hipster scene for years receiving the highest accolades from Pitchfork etc since 2003/2004.

Every AC show I've been to has sold out weeks in advance. The show following SJ had to be moved by the promoters to a different venue to sell a few hundred more tickets!

If you mean like an Vampire Weekend/Arcade Fire level of mainstream, I still don't think they'll ever achieve that.

Yeah, that's what I mean. I think they'll at least get close to that. I'm glad for them, but the backside is the predictable reaction from newfound haters.

I'm willing to face any hater and fight tooth and nail about how fantastic Merriweather Post Pavilion is, because it's brilliant. I've gotten through the album twice and listened to just Summer Clothes over and over.

Though Taste's "Am I really all the things that are outside of me?" might be my initial favorite part of the album.

I've already had people tell me they're just way to boring and hipster trendy doofus to take seriously. That people only like them because they're "hip" and "Pitchfork-approved."

Whatever. I didn't even get into them through Pitchfork-My friend bought me Person Pitch and then I just worked my way through all of Panda's work, AC included.

But yeah, album of the year already for sure.

:lol Oh come on.

1) Hyperbole much? I'm sure this is the best album of two years before the next year even starts AND after like 2 or 3 listens in one day.
2) "Check it out dudes I'm on wafflez and ur not sorry no invites :)"
3) Ugggggggggggggh.

The endless hyperbole in this thread for what I consider an okay-good band is overkill and what does it for me. It's like... people have never heard a psyche rock record before. They've never heard noise with pop music. Animal Collective is to the hipster crowd what Radiohead is to the mainstream rock crowd. And I feel about the same way about both bands.

Yeah... not surprised that At Ease had a huge thread for this album. Radiohead and Animal Collective just seem to go together... and not in a good way.

Summertime Clothes is my new obsession. It just feels good to my ears. There is no other way to explain it.

If this song was a girl I would do nasty things to it.

I wish this band would quit fucking around and just make a pure pop album. I really like "Bluish" and a few others, but after two listens I have mixed feelings on the album.

I'll agree that this album is okay, and that people will be saying it's mind blowing and whatnot for a while. However, I can't stand radio head, so I won't approve of your comparison :lol

Animal Collective is to the electronic folk rock psych indie crowd what nothing else has been; I can understand that some hipsters will dig this and also hate it. They're just a blender, to me that's all. I do wish that Panda Bear would keep his own stuff to himself under his own projects. I mean if this was a Panda Bear record, I'd totally accept it and be pleased with it. But as an AC record, it feels like they've landed in Honolulu and stayed there, with no progression aside from a sequel to Person Pitch. I was hoping for something more substantial than this. Of course, this is just me.

I feel like listening to previous albums now, more than listening to MPP.

Maybe the RH fans actually like something good after listening to the whines and bitching?

Whatever. I like pretty much everything, hipster trendy stuff or not. The sooner people get over how they're insecure about a "hipster" movement, the better.

Hipsters have been around for a long time, what makes them have a movement?

the way people have been throwing that word around lately as a general insult could be it. the people who use it as a way to define something occuring within this generation and to insult someones musical tastes.

BrandNew said:
Why can't people just like good music? I don't understand why there's such a hate for any crowd
ic, well depending on someone's tastes good is totally different from someone else.

Hipsters to me, are people who like music because it's trendy, and the hip thing to do. *shrugs
But like I said, that kind of thing has been around for a long time...

No they're not, video gaming / gamers are a type of subculture ;]

This is the absolute lowest form of argumentation. "You guys who are tricked into thinking this is great haven't heard the REAL GOOD MUSIC that lurks beyond your horizon". I'm sure it's a comforting thought to think that your knowledge is broader and deeper, and that those of us who love AC don't know all the nooks of the various genres, but most of the times I'm also pretty sure it's not true. Don't resort to that kind of shit, don't try to twist the motivations of the fans into something you can accept. It comes off as desperate.

I guess that would mean that you suck, too.

You don't have to listen to every source of the samples that the band has in this album either, and you can't really tag AC as being of one particular genre either, so we can just enjoy AC for being AC.

i guess it does!

but seriously there are distinctions to be made. it's very much possible to like some of the things embraced by a subculture without embracing the subculture itself. plenty of people who can't be branded as hipsters listen to indie bands, and plenty of people play games without feeling any connection to gamers.

i could write paragraphs about the many stupidities of gamers as a group and not be self-loathing at all. i also listen to punk and metal but i'm in no way a punk or metalhead. hell if that were the case and i listed all the things i liked, i'd pretty much be part of every subculture of the last fifty years :P
