They've stated that they're too distracting in the past. Not gonna dig up the posts now but trust me. People have lost avatar privileges for having animated avatars. Just don't do it.

They will likely be punished, by ban or losing avatar privileges.

Doesn't matter if its .gif .png .mjpeg or anything else, we are not allowed animated avatars.

If people want an avatar with 'movement' they can have an avatar of an optical illusion where the mind/eyes are making it 'animated'. One user did this soon after animated avatars were banned and I thought it was a clever way round the problem.

You can also have a 'two tone' avatar that looks different depending on if your post is an odd or even number in a thread. Someone has a MLP one that is also very clever.
