Anime cliches that need to die.

Another one, any flashback to childhood will portrait the character with the same hairstyle he is currently using, long hair guy? Flashback of himself when he was 5 years old shows him with exact long hair style, same goes for any other crazy japanese fashionable hair style, it turns out the person was sporting the same awesome hairdo at 5 years old , it's like they want you to to recognize the guy and that's the best they could come up with.

characters too fucking stupid to confess their feelings when it's clearly mutual but it's drawn out to the point of frustration just for the final episode.

Love triangles (needs to die in everything)

And will they or won't they which goes on forever even though they look and stare at each other and almost kiss.

Seriously......get on with it.

The "no couples" trope, this aplly to gaming too.

Yes, in animes its common to have one or two romantic interests (or more in harems), but the relationship never go past the blushing etc, and when something happens (a kiss or a cofession) in the ep 2##, the writers almost always do something to reset the relationship, making the cycle all over again.

Then when the couple finally get together its at the anime ending, i wanna actually see a action seinen/shounen that the MCs get together, grow a relationship, etc. All in the story of the anime, with no timeskips.

People in other countries speaking fluent Japanese.

The "childhood friend" romantic trope.

Harems of any and all descriptions.

The trip and fall thing.

Women who suck at cooking.

All the harem crap.

The 12 year old girl who is actually 1000 years old, so that means that the artists are allowed to draw her in skimpy clothing.

Sometimes its even worse and they don't even try to come up with an excuse, they just draw the 12 year old girl in skimpy clothing.

I instantly turn off an anime/game when that junk pops up

These. And fuck harem.

And personally I hate the ones with the god messiah ultimate savior protagonist whose friends/allies have to rely on or serve as a ladder for him become stronger and save everyone. You always should fight along with your allies as a team imo

This, I feel I wasted so much time in the past hoping that the roms that I watched would deliver something like this.

I dunno what its called but its when the character gets all angry and then they make this expression.

Berserk probably did it first but now its just cliche.

clumsy girls are so moe

Whoa. Whoa. I like Colette. :(

It's Raine that needed to go somewhere, horribly uninteresting character compared to the rest of the cast, even Regal had more personality than her.

While I'm on that subject, violent or "tsundere" characters for the sake of humor (male or female) can really die off now. Most annoying trope by a whole lot.

H-he's fast !
WE DID IT! I CAN'T BELIEVE WE FINALLY BEAT HIM!
smoke clears
W-wha?! You're kidding me! Even after all of that he's still alive?!
pans up to sky
EHHHH?!?
A-Am I really fighting for justice?
It's time to use...that.
Everyone gasps.
BUT THAT'LL SHORTEN YOUR LIFESPAN!!
STOP! If you kill him you'll be no better than he is!

I had the resolution to sacrifice my love and my family for a greater good, I destroyed cities and annihilated entire civilizations to make this world a better world, but this teenager I just met shouted a selfish speech at me and made me change my mind.

IT'S THE SEA!

Only teenagers can pilot the super duper awesome mech that can kill aliens and save the world

We used to bathe together all the time when we were young.

I live alone, my parents are overseas.

Sorry, most of these are shonen.

I also HATE it when a male character, usually the main character, goes on and on in some cheesy way about how much he wants to protect a female character. Even if the female is perfectly competent, or a better fighter than the male, the male character is overprotective. Is that supposed to be charming?

ooh that's a really good one. i can't stand this crap either.

Setting the entire plot in high school. There is probably 1000 animes set in high school, you know what it's hasn't just been beating the dead horse, it's been rolling boulders off of cliffs onto said dead horse.

Can animators move on from this setting or are they all still trying to capture a "target audience" up until this day?

Excellent point. There is a certain amount of the word "mamoru" I can handle before I start to get nauseous.

Baka baka baka baka baka baka.

Non-stop.

You mean like this?

Daisu-
[train intensifies]

Eh? Nandatte?
Naruhodo...sugee paawaa da!
Temee....
ANO YARO!!
Kitano ka? Katta!! YATTA!!!
smoke clears
MASAKA! SONNA BAKANA!
K-KISAMA
EHHHHHHHHHHH?
NANIIIIII?
OWARI DA!
UMI DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Ne MC

Nandemonai

I love the trop where main MC is a BAD-ass. Has guns, has sex with nuns. In fact, has sex with everyone. Skips class to fight a robot, and then fuck yeah, flies into the sun!!

Someone clenching their teeth so hard their start bleeding from the corner of their mouth.

How is that even possible?

I want main character to die and stay dead, basically no more deus ex machina endings, also bad guys should win more, or at least, if the good guys win half the cast should've died to achieve victory. In essence, more action anime should end like Fate/Zero and not like Aldnoah.Zero.

Has anyone in the history of humanity ever exploded blood from their nose when they are extremely aroused or attracted to someone?

So much running.

ALL OF THE RUNNING INTROS.

Second worst is all of the intros with the hand and the let me help you up and the tilt the camera to the pristine cloudy blue sky/sun/bird and... yeah they run THAT one into the ground.

What are your most hated anime cliches?

For me it would have to be the "lovable pervert". When a show makes a guy do something really creepy, like spying on a girl bathing, and it's played up to be all funny and innocent. Boys will be boys. Unless you're Jiraiya or Space Dandy, just no.

Oh holy hell where do I start. I generally dislike anime, so I have a list a mile long.

  • How about school in general. Stop it with the damn school settings.

  • Food and eating. Why? Why why why why.

  • The fake ass celebration after a "victory" that the opponent somehow survives after a dramatic smoke cloud clears or some shit.

  • "Baka"

  • "Childhood Friends"

  • I have also noticed this thing in some anime where there are these 'rich families' or really popular people that are heirs to their families large companies or some crap. Really stupid and over used.

  • And how about the female character that laughs loud obnoxiously with their hand in front of their face? How in the hell..... like 5 anime I have seen have had characters do that exact fucking hand pose while shriek-laughing like a banshee.

  • Too many kids. Noone is ever above 20 years old, and where the fuck are their parents? Why are they always overseas, or living out of another house somewhere else leaving their children to fend for themselves in what must be $70k+ houses? Such horseshit.

  • Romance and Drama. All anime is bad at it, so just stop trying. Its all awful. All of it. Stick to comedy.

  • Stereotypical foreigners. I dont even know where to start with this one. Its just bad, Americans are all loud and obnoxious. And jesus.... lord help me if they have an African American person on the show for some reason. Its going to get really stupid.

So many more I could rant about, but I wont. Just nuke the entirety from orbit and start over.

EDIT: Oh, and Kendo or whatever with the fake wooden swords! WHY THO!

I think everyone should get more of what they want. I think removing tropes is taking away something that some people want. If half the tropes in this thread died I'd personally be upset.

Instead I'd rather focus on tropes I'd like to see more instead of ones that I don't like.

This makes me happy.

The r reluctant love interest. It's super annoying watching these kids navel gaze for 26 episodes because they can't decide if they want to try dating.

Remember when nisekoi was about the mafia?

This isn't just an anime thing, it's in like every running series no matter the format. I don't know if things are left purposely open to encourage shippers, or because it is just easy drama to have the constant "will they or won't they" moments. I just know that I hate it.
