Following that train of thought, I wish I was better at identifying age by sight. I'd like to be able to talk to the busty female Loki without wondering if I'm gonna catch a charge the whole time. lol
Whoever invents LEGALDAR is gonna be rich.

Ponies aren't a furry version of the bible? Or are they?

In about 1600 years, Ponies are gonna be an -awesome- religion.

There may be tension with the Church of Latter-day Ketchums though.

How dare they get in the way of their future waifus~

But in all seriousness, I've heard stories of stuff like that happening quite a bit. And stories of a certain VA doing it quite often. Creepy.

Jesus Fucking Christ.

but she does not seem overtly sexual to me. She's just a cute figure!

*ass shot jpg* Nanako is wearing the odd-but-adorable school swimsuit and stockings combo. I have another figure in this getup, and she's also a catgirl ... and a loli! Maybe those things just go particularly well together?

Heck what about those twilight moms!

She only has one.

They're well within their rights to do this and keeping registered sex offenders out of conventions of any kind isn't exactly a terrible idea, but the issue I have is that it fuels stereotypes that lead to awful threads like this.

I had a friend thats a staff member for Dragon-Con, freaky shit goes down there. Sometimes involving C-list celebrities.

you know i wonder when girls fuck voice actors do they ask for them to voice the characters out? "please sound like Ed!" "please sound like Yugioh!"

Cop walks in.

"You've activated my trap card!"

Vic Mignogna is a good christian, he wouldn't do something like that.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

See, this is what I don't get. The things I mentioned aren't "kid stuff," strictly speaking. Sure, children and young adults are part of the intended audience, but why should older fans be considered creepy? Classic film and literature both have their fair share of works that are/were widely enjoyed by children, yet adult fans of the Chronicles of Narnia don't get treated like pony-GAF.

EDIT: Yes, I know you're at least partially joking. I just hear people make this argument seriously often enough that I wanted to say something.

Well to be fair I think Zelda and Pixar movies are maybe too mainstream to have people think you are a pedo if you like them. So I am wrong about that. My Little Pony? Yeah that's a head scratcher on why an adult would be interested in it out side of maybe nostalgia? Not sure how an adult could be mentally stimulated by it enough to watch more than 2 min of it.

They did sweep it under the rug for decades.

The fact is that the anime community cares more about protecting children than does the church.
The issue is infinitely more complicated than the way in which you just boiled it down to. If you need me to explain why, then you are part of the problem.

But yeah, this thread is starting to get silly. Anime nerds are derided for the same reason every other nerd is derided: a perceivedly infantile obsession with "childish" things, from cartoons, to sci-fi movies, to model fucking trains. Each group has their bizarre jargon, fetishistic characteristics, and downright creepy shit. But in the end, the majority of fans, otaku, weeaboo, whatever just want to have fun with the specific narratives that they enjoy and recreate within their fan culture. Are some of those sex offenders or sex offenders waiting to happen? Yes. Most definitely. So are people who enjoy beer. I'm not going to stop drinking beer because some assholes ruin it for everyone else.

I googled him and the most interesting I learned was there is a large website for christian anime fans. Niches within niches.

It's more creepy when you watch the first FMP episode.
Weber/Mignogna: "This is gonna be one foxy lady in a few years"
"The photo is four years old. Miss Chidori would be around 16 now"
Weber/Mignogna:"Where can I get a photo of that version?"

It's like art imitating life.

She told me one story about one member of a certain fellowship of a round object that was hilarious.
Do tell.

Oh the stories I have from attending conventions over the years....

But still, I hate perpetuating stereotypes. Older males that are fans of a niche culture aren't ALL creeps and sex offenders. I mean really, any hobby event where you get a large number of people gets really freaky during the after hours. I'm sure stamp collector conventions have some wild sex stories of their own.

Wrong place, should be at Toddler and Tiara type pageants.

I watched that show the other day, and I think that shit might be so offensive that even pedophiles are above it.

I thought all the girls like Yusei.

That's odd, I thought the problem was kids getting molested by priests, and the Catholic Church covering it up. Are you calling Count a child molester?

Was it the Christian Anime Alliance? Ah, I've got memories from that place. It was one of my first ever forum experiences, full of drama and draconian mods who censored posts and swung the banhammer in the name of God. Fun times, kinda.

It's a problem, but not the problem of this thread. Keep the discussion for another thread where it's relevant. Here, an anime convention is screening people preordering convention passes with background checks to prevent sex offenders from getting in. What do you think? Overzealous? Pointless? Invasion of privacy? A good idea?

This is a good idea. One would hope it happens at other large gatherings of people where the underaged are allowed to attend, though I doubt it.

I would laugh at the reaction if they tried to do it at Comic-Cons. I'm trying to imagine the A-list celebrity types discovering they were being screened for a criminal history, espeically sex offenses.

As a girl who's gone to katsucon every year since I was thirteen, yes there are a bunch of creepers. They're really rather infrequent, and it's not like it's that hard to avoid them. Still, I'm happy to know that they're trying to make the con safer.

Christianity is a niche now?
No, but added to stuff it can be. Alliance of black pacific northwest christian theoretical physicists. With each new descriptor it becomes more and more of a niche.

It's cool, I feel the same way about adults who enjoy playing Mortal Kombat. :)

I don't see a huge problem with it, though it's probably not a good idea from a PR perspective to insult your audience.
