For someone who's already a fan of cartoons in general, it's not that big of a leap from liking something like Flapjack or Adventure Time. The series has great writing, solid voice acting, much better animation than your average kids' show, and numerous gags and cultural reference that are bound to go over the heads of the intended audience. Lauren Faust, the executive producer of the first season, stated that it was her goal to make a series that wouldn't annoy the siblings and parents of the main audience, and the studio pulled it off so well that the show attracted a large secondary demographic. I'll admit that it's a bit weird, but people still tend to overreact in some pretty dramatic ways.R2D4 said:Well to be fair I think Zelda and Pixar movies are maybe too mainstream to have people think you are a pedo if you like them. So I am wrong about that. My Little Pony? Yeah that's a head scratcher on why an adult would be interested in it out side of maybe nostalgia? Not sure how an adult could be mentally stimulated by it enough to watch more than 2 min of it.
Meet you half way?R2D4 said:If the ponies started decapitating one another I'd watch it.

Actually, the fact that is reversible was the point!Rapstah said:Well this argument is not reversible whatsoever!

I'm not going to lie, Fatalities were pretty badass when I first saw them in middle school.
Neither do I really, though it might be problematic from a logistical standpoint. No matter what they do, people will fall through the cracks. And along with those people falling through the cracks, individuals with absolutely no bad intentions or backgrounds might get caught up because something unrelated or out of context is caught up in alot of trouble. In the end, people will resent an overbearing screening process and bad shit will still happen no matter what the con dudes do.Dude Abides said:I don't see a huge problem with it, though it's probably not a good idea from a PR perspective to insult your audience.

Hmm... the series never really caught me since I learned a bit about competitive play. The depth was never really there in the early days of the series, and the dial-a-combos of some of the later iterations were not fun at all. I've heard some good things about the latest game in the series, but by now I've completely given up on it.Teknoman said:Someones probably going to make an anime about it now...
EDIT: Mortal Kombat is still a really fun game to play, but the fatalities dont get me hyped up as they used to.
Of course, it might just be the fact that the sound mix sucks on the new MK, and impact noises dont seem like they pack much of a punch aside from normal attacks.

I watch anime, but any guy over 17 who's into that little girl loli anime shit has something serious pent up. Some of these guys worship those characters and it's beyond weird.

I dunno. One of the event organizers at Megacon got arrested forn kiddy porn a few years back. It seems to be more widespread than you think it is.LegatoB said:All this does is contribute to the stereotype that anyone over the age of 18 who attends one of these public events is some kind of kiddy-fiddlin' creeper, like most "protect the children from Stranger Danger" measures. This type of abuse is not epidemic at these events, or you would've heard about it way sooner -- and "stranger danger" is incredibly exaggerated by the media compared to far more common situations of child abuse. Blocking ten people from entering the doors of a multi-thousands event means nothing at all. What an embarrassment.
*Laughs*Sennorin said:And being weird justifies being stigmatized as a sex offender? This topic is full of people who attempt to draw some kind of line between anime-fans and criminals, which is beyond being only unfunny. I´m not into moe-anime, unless Mawaru Penguin Drum and Usagi Drop count as such, but let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. Quitting being interested in anime because you reach a certain age that society expects you to quit it? Ridiculous.
That´s not even touching on the subject of why young girls are cosplaying as characters that are MEANT to be sexy, attractive, inviting. Complete and utter failure on side of the parents if they let their underage children reveal their bodies in clothing that is clearly meant to be sexualized.
Hey, some people think Fred is funny. Who am I to say they are wrong for being amused by such things?bengraven said:People call Pony fans perverts because it's funny.

Sorry can you back this up with something concrete or is it just one of those things people type without any intervention from their brain?perfectnight said:Well, you see, a lot of those shows aren't made for kids. A prominent portion of the anime/manga fandom is made up of pedophiles. They (the industry) are well aware of this and so they continue to pander to that demographic, to the disgust of many normal anime fans.

Because the convention coordinators make a lot more money by letting in people of all ages, and this isn't that serious of a problem to warrant such a drastic action.Cloudy said:Wouldn't a better idea be to NOT allow underage people on the premises without supervision? Do you really want to add another stigma to anime conventions?
Could you not.perfectnight said:A prominent portion of the anime/manga fandom is made up of pedophiles.

perfectnight said:The metric fuck tons of drawn kiddy porn (and everything in between) in both mediums and the constant hamfisting of loli/moe type characters into shows isn't enough? I think it's silly to pretend there is no correlation between those things and the anime fandom itself. Or are you suggesting these things are being made to appease no one in particular. huh. Obviously there must be quite a demand for such materials otherwise they wouldn't be quite so... common?
Ah, you think sexualizing drawings is the same thing as sexualizing people. Or do you think one leads to the other?perfectnight said:The metric fuck tons of drawn kiddy porn (and everything in between) in both mediums and the constant hamfisting of loli/moe type characters into shows isn't enough? Oh I see. But I'm still confused about one thing, what do [NOUN OTHER THAN PEDOPHILE] have to do with registered sex offenders?perfectnight said:Point still stands, there must be a considerable amount of [NOUN OTHER THAN PEDOPHILE] out there because if not, there wouldn't be so much drawn kiddy porn!

Why are you asking me? I'm not doing any case studies on correlations between the doujin scene and pedophiles.Salacious Crumb said:If you show an adult male who wanks to 12 year old cartoon girls a real video of a skimpily dressed sexualized 12 year old will that person get a boner?

If you for the life of you think that lolicon is more than a niche, I'm not sure what I can say to you. Truth is, for every metric fuckton of lolicon, there's got be at least 100 metric fucktons of girls with some T&A, and that's not even counting other genres like S&M and /d/. Sure there's creepy pandering in anime, but that doesn't often find it's way into the most popular shit. It finds it's way into the worst shit actually, because they have to get an audience SOMEHOW.perfectnight said:oO I see where you're coming from, but that's a semantics argument and I don't really care about that! You're bothered by the noun pedophile, haha. Is there a better name for people who masturbate to drawings of kids? If not, make one up in your head. Now replace pedophile with that word in my previous post. Wa-la!
Point still stands, there must be a considerable amount of [NOUN OTHER THAN PEDOPHILE] out there because if not, there wouldn't be so much drawn kiddy porn!
