You are missing out, when you ignore the Moe stuff out there you will find hidden gems all around. You just have to look around and find it.

I'm hoping the Kenshin revival will be great. That was one one my favorite manga back then.

Because most moe girls are most of the time underage?

"Patrick W. Galbraith[2] notes that it is a pun derived from a Japanese word that literally means "budding," as with a plant that is about to flower, and thus it can also be used to mean "budding" as with a preadolescent girl."

And? Does a show being about underage girls automatically mean it's made to appeal to lolicons?

Just because there is overlap doesn't really make them the same thing.

Lol, from where is that?

No. Making underage girls moe is the problem. They obviously want people feeling attracted to them. Isn't that the entire point of that?

Of course they aren't.

NO.

Moe is a nonsexual attraction the vast majourity of the time. the appeal of moe is its ability to tug on the big brother instinct and big brothers don't usually want to rape their siblings.

You can keep telling yourself that, but the truth about moe is simply to fetishize innocence.

You claim I'm putting words in your mouth, well that's no different from what you're doing at all. So deal with it.

Well the thing with that is, you're making shit up. I'm not. I stated 2 or 3 pages ago that there was a prominent fanbase of moe/lolicon material because of the sheer release volume of such works. How did I come to this conclusion? like many anime fans who were disillusioned with the industry, I watched as the market flooded with more and more shows like that pander to the moe crowd.

These are charts with the shows released in the last couple of years. The amount of shows that fall into the moe/lolicon genre is quite large. Way more than I'd like which is why my opinion of the industry has degraded over the years.

perfectnight, stop "disagreeing" without replying to the exact points being presented and refuting them. Saying "I disagree" means nothing. I'm not interested in your opinion. I'm interested in you being able to back up your opinion.

For example, right now my opinion is that you're a guy who likes to make board generalizations to directly accuse fans of certain forms of entertainment of being things they are not, and then when backed to a corner you play the "I just disagree" card. You make claims without being able to back them up, and you try to claim the high ground by appearing to be an alternative voice.

Are you talking about the pedophile thing? again? lol

I had a great time too, I didn't know you had that sort of an issue during AX. It was definitely lots of fun, we should definitely hang out and do a NeoGAF meet or something. I also met Giolon and other NeoGAF members in there.
Yeah it was really fun! I didn't really tell anyone since nothing really came of it so I didn't think it was a big deal. Oh really? I only met you and Shidoshi there I didn't run into anyone else.

Uh, no, the feeling I get from moe is definitely different than the one I get from, say, hentai. But you're the expert I guess!

It's not fetishized in the traditional sexual sense. It's psychological.

Edit:

While there are people who enjoy moe in a nonsexual manner, that doesn't change the fact that the reason it exploded into the major anime scene was because it was specifically designed to exploit the same psychological factors among otaku that prize innocence and virginity.

Why in the world are you using the Spring 2011 chart to support your argument? It lists 20 shows and maybe 3 or 4 of them are moe crap.

You would be surprised how many people go to Anime Expo and frequent this forum, I certainly was. I was even more shocked that many of them were somehow able to find me without my NeoGAF name anywhere on my badge.

I guess the Selvaria picture on my badge was a dead giveaway for lots of them.

Either you or I have to organize a NeoGAF AX meet and greet.

I know how you feel, I am just as excited about this reboot.

Hopefully we get some revenge arc action :)

I was just going to say this. It's proof that the guy has no idea what he is talking about. I guess to some people if there is a female present on the cover at all it must be moe crap.

Everything is moe.

In all seriousness, I can wholeheartedly understand some people who don't like some of the moe shows out there but this is taking things to a different level in here...

The sad part is, in reality he is probably just a frustrated anime fan who feels the industry has moved on without him. Hopefully he makes a huge come back in the next 5 minutes, and proves us all wrong that most of our fellow fans are indeed pedophiles.

It's been more than 2 hours.

edit: Or maybe not.

He should write for Colony Drop! I get the feeling he would fit in well there.

Little chance of coming back against a mod who likes to make shit up to justify his bans :p

He kept fighting until the last minute. What a brave soul.

Oh lol the Penguin gifs are finally being put to use outside of the anime topic

BTW here are the anime charts from 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003

Look at all that moe ruining the anime industry a decade ago.
thats another thing! nanoha the series is older than the characters, how the heck is it responsible for degrading modern anime. >:(

people just want to kill the buzz for the inevitable glorious return to television that will be nanoha FORCE.

I always thought of moe/lolicon as soft/not so soft anime "fill the gaps" sexual material. Both have panty shots of underage (prepubescent even) girls, don't they?

Pandaman said:
that is utterly baseless alarmism.

No it's not. Reading about moe for the past half hour has made it realized not everyone looks at it that way. They want people to feel attracted and desire those characters. There's something wrong when a 30 year old is watching shows like that.

I don't think there's any kind of rule that those kinds of anime have to have panty shots. Or that non-moe shows necessarily won't have any.

This is the first I've ever heard of these terms. But surely such Anime is bad news no? Panty shots of underage girls....I mean really? Isn't that just a basic, soft, low end version of romanticising or teetering on the borders of pedophilia?

Unless I'm missing something....

Let's make something clear. Moe is not a genre. It's a meme that is used to describe certain types of characters. What most people here refer to as "moeblob" shows are more of a complaint against the character designs and the look of a show, rather than a genre or a specific type of show.

A character being moe does not innately make them sexually attractive by design or otherwise. For example, we could take Rin from Usagi Drop. Super moe little girl, but not designed to be attract people sexually.

Panty shots are a vital part of the big brother experience.
