Another Infamous: Second Son screenshot (offscreen) [Up: More Images]

Looks great.

Not sure I believe the Red Faction part though. I bet there's some destruction but there's no way you can level the entire city. Probably more akin to Battlefield Bad Company destruction.

putting aside the fanboy wars for a moment, it is so remarkable to me how many people across the board keep putting their foot in their mouth about diminishing returns. This is first gen PS4 shit and it's already slaughtering every single title that came out this gen by leaps and bounds. By the end of the gen, only tears left for the diminishing returns set lol

Well said bud
And this game is out in February(?), this is a huge leap.

I am honestly a bit frightened by what Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica will show for PS4. Like, will I shit myself? Will I shit ALL of myself?

Going by the e3 demo it looks like you can destroy military bases or at least certain parts of them but not buildings.

Only fitting:

Wow this looks almost CGI. Great looking game.

Second Son seems to be a huge improvement. As for Killzone, it seems different enough to the ones before with more open environments, more tactics being played, doing side missions, and having the Owl. And of course targeted 60fps and promise of future DLC being free as well as a decent amount of maps makes Killzone the perfect launch title. On the other hand the new IP's like Knack and Driveclub hasn't impressed me.

I agree, both Second Son and KZ Shadow Fall are much improved. My point was that as Second Son has gone through some pretty nice improvements, so too has Shadow Fall :)

This was a funny little offshoot from that tweet involving James Chilton from The Double K.O. Podcast...

Maaan, Shu's awesome. Two birds with a single conversation.

That IGN tech guy must be kicking himself right now.

That's hyperbole from the twitter guy. I very much doubt that we can destroy everything in the game.

I disagree. With inFamous not only is it pretty and has destruction. But it seems they have put way more effort in having a cinematic experience with the story and characters. For me personally the first 2 inFamous games were fun but they lacked a decent production, they felt like B grade games, Second Son seems to be a huge improvement.

We rarely disagree but this one of those times. inF2 had much better production resulting in face animations (incl. lip sync) that would stand toe to toe with the best in the industry. In terms of overall visuals, while in motion, it still is one of the better looking open world games to grace either console.

VGA is going to be awesome. Does ND own the VGAs? Who else does a pretty epic showing like they do? Skyrim had their men singing the skyrim thing but I was more confused by that. I guess ND likes to set the mood.

I think Sucker Punch is quickly moving up the ladder at Sony with Infamous Second Son

To think folks thought Sony 1st party would lose their edge working on an easier to develop for platform. Guerilla and Sucker Punch are killing it.

Thinking about it, I can't wait to see what ND and SSM will do on the PS4.

Yoshida also reconfirmed that February is when this is releasing. I remember some in the other thread were concerned about whether or not IGN was correct about it

I don't believe that the part starting at 4:50 in that clip is live gameplay footage.

In my eyes, it's very clear that some of the footage released for inFamous SS looks *much* more impressive than the other footage. And almost without fail, the bits that look more pedestrian (comparatively) are from angles that I'm very familiar with from playing inFamous 1 & 2, while the ones that pop out look like they're from cutscenes or QTE-like bits (like when Cole charged up one of the power grid stations in inFamous 1).
The part that shows immediately at 4:50 was from the February reveal - so no, it wasn't gameplay. The second clip with him smirking at the camera may or may not be part of gameplay - that scene was shown during the E3 demo but it could either be a cutscene or a canned animation that happens when you activate the special move.

I'm still not quite sure what you're trying to get at with the whole 'some parts look *much* more impressive' thing. They don't really. If anything the game looks as good, if not better, than the initial February reveal - which had no gameplay. Unless again, you're comparing the cutscenes to the gameplay.

I really like this Yoshida guy. He's this super exec dude, but is also social media savvy in a way that's better that most dedicated social media "experts". He's dialed in, gets the jokes, gives it back to people (like Scott Lowe) in a "got ya" funny but not inflammatory way. He responds to a lot of fans

This guy can do no wrong, I swear. I'm really liking the personalites coming out Sony lately. On both sides of the pond

I'm starting to wonder if Gaf's frequent use of the word "douche" here, as it's applied to Delsin, is really a substitution for "handsome-ass-bastard-that-would-probably-get-more-ass-than-me-if-he-was-a-real-life-person-...-fucker!"

He looks like a jackass that I'd want to punch in the face. Cole is just straight-up badass.

That's hyperbole from the twitter guy. I very much doubt that we can destroy everything in the game.

If I remember, in one of the video interviews, destruction was said to play a big part in the game but some sections or items will end up "regenerating" and not being persistent--otherwise, we'd be left with a torn down Seattle and that could get... boring, at least gameplay-wise.

What makes this so damn impressive is that it's an open-world game. Those always look way worse than more directed and linear experiences.

Meanwhile, people are saying "oooh" at GTA V and proclaiming it impossible to achieve on current-gen systems, saying it must be footage of a PC/next-gen version. Lol. Second Son looks a generation ahead of that game, as it should.

Also, can't fucking wait! I absolutely loved Infamous 1 and 2, with 2 being probably the best open-world game I've ever played. I just can't get enough of the way you get around in these games, it's so much fun!

Knack I can understand. Did you see the Gamescom footage of Driveclub?

Edit: Welcome back color! How I've missed you!

I actually am really impressed with how far Knack has come along aesthetically - it too obviously looks way beyond what any game is doing this gen visually.

Pretty worried about the gameplay though considering the thrashing the Official PlayStation Magazine gave it in a preview. I don't trust in games journalism so I'll draw my own conclusions in the end, but I hope it comes together and they're simply reserving the most compelling stuff for when the game's out to surprise people.

Knack looks great imo but I think they are targeting a younger audience with the gameplay, so I feel like it won't gel with my preferences. Although when I was a kid I was playing some intense shit, I think people underestimate kids abilities sometimes.

Are those screens compressed? I like the aesthetic too, but it looks like there's some muddy texture work here and there that makes it look unpolished, or the system incapable. I thought I noticed some in a recent trailer too. Hope that gets cleaned up.

Yes they're not direct feed, I print screen from the Gamescom Knack trailer

they're meant to demonstrate the overall massive jump in quality from the original Knack stuff visually to now. It's quite the leap. if you watch the Gamescom trailer it's actually extremely impressive visually, many cool things going on in it.

Knack's art style hurts it badly. It's technically impressive but it looks like a low budget, third rate kid's CG show. Technically it's nice though. I also expected more full scale and dynamic destruction based on the concept but it seems to all be preset.

Having seen and gone hands-on with lots of this next-gen stuff, I think Amir0x is right. The advances seem incredible. Crazy faces, particle effects. I don't think developers are lying when they talk about how significant the RAM bump is. Obviously these demos are all smoke and mirrors and we won't really know what next-gen looks like until the systems are in our living rooms, but today I saw both Infamous and the new Dragon Age, and if this is just the beginning, I can't even imagine what PS4/XB1 games will look like in three years. I don't think we're at the point of diminishing returns yet at all.

Poor Wii U.

Knack does look pretty good. It kind of reminds me of Kameo. But the problem I have with it is that it looks kind of underwhelming considering Cerny is behind it and he's the one who had a lot to do with the development of the PS4. Would expect it to be more impressive than it is. Seeing a tank explode by merely blowing a part in neat pieces and then vanishing just kind of ruined the effect. Not a lot going on in the environments from what I've seen.

I feel like I'm gonna have to play it safe with that one and rent it. Killzone and Infamous are sure buys from what I've seen. Hopefully the PS4 will have some demos near launch. I'd like a demo of Knack.

Well considering how busy Cerny has been with this whole PS4 stuff, I doubt his influence was as focused as it otherwise could have been. But it is because of Cerny's pedigree that I am trying to be patient with Knack and give it a real shot (plus I love PS1-era inspired action platformers, and there are virtually none of them on the market anymore).

I am buying Knack (well technically my fiancee is buying my PS4 launch games and I'm getting the system since I've been saving forever for it), but I hope it's not a mistake

Poor Wii U.

Dragon Age is coming to PS4 and Xbox One? Missed that announcement. Yeah, what really gets me is this is all first gen stuff from Xbox One and PS4. With the 'secret sauce' Cerny has talked about (giving programmers a little something extra to unlock as they get experienced with the PS4) and Xbox One's upclocking and all the rumoured hUMA stuff, the improvement from the start of the gen til the end is going to be mindboggling.

As for Wii U... I hope they can manage to at least do Gamecube numbers by the end of the gen. No system deserves to bomb that bad, at least not one with games like Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 :(

You're not the first person I've heard say this, and honestly it's kind of hard to argue with entirely. But for me when I see it in motion, I think it works, because I feel the fantastical creatures work a lot better in this style than the people do, and the creatures and wild looking colorful world are what you look at most of the time.

I just want to see the depth of anything. They keep telling us about these features but have done a poor job of demonstrating how far they go. Like Knack's ability to suck in particles and create different powers for himself is a rad feature, but why don't they show us a single video demonstrating just one puzzle that's requires a little more complex utilization of it? Knack's combat abilities is like God of War-lite, so why don't you have a combat explanation video showcasing the depth it can have when you play on hard? Cerny keeps saying he wants people playing Knack to get the same experience they did when they played Crash Bandicoot for the first time: a novel goal. And so why don't they showcase just a single video demonstrating some of the more complex platforming that Crash Bandicoot frequently had?

To me if they really aren't hiding stuff like that, then the game will be a failure. If they are simply showing us the easiest stuff because it's demos and they want the family and their kids to not feel intimidated, I can sort of understand, although I think it hurt the game's prospects in the long run.

Ya know it's funny. I remember watching Nate Fox do this presentation in Feb and remember thinking whatever he was announcing seemed like a Watch_Dogs ripoff. Little did I know 6 months later I'd be much more excited about a 3rd Infamous game than I would the 1st Watch_Dogs. Watch_Dogs looked like the true nextgen experience at E3 12' and has trended downward. Time is a beautiful thing.

Cross gen games will always hit walls like that

I just hope the final Watch Dogs we get on PS4 looks damn close to that friggin reveal clip they had or I'm going to be pretty irritated :P

Wow, great screen shot. You know, I've had zero interest in this game (never played the others either), but everytime I see new media of it, it seems to get better and better. I'm interested now just need to see what kind of story/world it will have. Were the other Infamous games any good storywise or gameplay wise?

The gameplay is completely amazing. Everything from the animations to the styles of play that you can adopt.

The variety of powers and split choices mean that most people would at least attempt to play the game twice and boy is it worth it. By your choices the world is different, the way people react to you is different and I personally feel the affects of what I do, if I have a play-through where I decide to be evil I feel bad about it, genuinely, just as the character would facing the choices you have to make (especially the last mission).

If you have a Playstation 3 I wholeheartedly recommend you play at least inFamous 2.

Subsequently if you're getting a Playstation 4 then buy this game! I can tell you now purely from my experience with the inFamous franchise that you wont be sorry.

pretty sure it is indeed low budget, at least lower than other Sony retail games. Cerny's whole spiel about PS4 is how he's concerned about increasing cost/budget to make games that he make PS4 games ease of development as a priority.

we know it's made by only a small team from SCE
