Another Infamous: Second Son screenshot (offscreen) [Up: More Images]

Anyone else shocked at how good Second Son looks? I really wasn't expecting this sort of detail from Sucker Punch. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed infamous 1&2 but the graphics were not impressive in the slightest.

agreed. technical competence doesn't necessary carry over generations. see bungie xbox -> 360. so why cant it be the other way around.

However perhaps these graphics are just the standard on PS4 and ND/Santa Monica will make this look average.
Who knows.

Yeah the studio has really jumped leaps and bounds ahead.

That's a pretty lame reflection technique. They're just using a simple reflection of what the player sees rather than what the actual world would reflect (which in this case would be the sky and very little of the road).

Heck, you can even see the player's HUD in the reflection (at the very end on top of the car).

ROFL!!!... smh Turn 10...

I Was honestly expecting a higher resolution or a small upgrade from infamous 2 really.

People keep saying this, but...why?

Think about it. If you had super powers and could fly, would you ever travel by car if you needed to get somewhere quick? Absolutely no way I'd hop in a car if I could just hop out my window and fly across town.
Kinda like the point totalbiscuit made about saints row IV.

Sucker Punch just posted this on their facebook.

Honestly, I was more shocked at how well they did with inFamous 1 and 2 on that PS3 difficult hardware. Even large teams like Bethesda couldn't really work out a smooth open world experience.

inFamous 2 came out 2 years after inFamous 1. inFamous 3 is coming out 2.5 years after inFamous 2 and they don't have to work so hard on SPU coding and all that jazz. The game's probably been in development for years starting with 2.2GB GDDR5 and now they're busting it out knowing they have around 6GB to play with. The game world has grown each time and their success with the series has probably lead to the team growing with each iteration. They're basically pulling off what I always thought they could given easy and powerful hardware.

I think the game is going to be fantastic based on their previous work and I'm stoked.

Sorry but no ENB is like that when you are actually playing game. All ENB look good in screenshots but when you start to move you see that lighting is really off because ENB is most of the time color correction, skybox and few other things played without actually touching lighting system itself + better textures.

I used almost all of them including iEnchancer and it looks good way better than vanilla GTA4 but SS will have consistency and waaay better lighting system and it already looks imo beyond GTA4 ENB.

I agree SS just destroys GTA4 even with the mod. That was... sort of my point :P

Is it really that advanced? Because you could destroy like almost anything in that game.

It would be pretty mindblowing if true.

I think there are clear limitations. I read a bit where they said the game remembers all the destruction, but things like cover regenerates over time because you need places to hide from enemy bullets and shit like that. They also said you can't just destroy every building but throughout the course of the story you will often be called to destroy certain buildings and they will stay destroyed for the game.

I thought Infamous 2 looked actually pretty good. It was also a massive jump compared to the first one

So this is probably the right place to post this:

Mitch Dyer:

Edit: Can't post the link for some reason but you can find it on twitter.

I sure hope it isn't restricted to telephone/lamp poles and other small stuff though.
I want to tear through buildings and shit!

inFamous 2 was very impressive for an open world game. Other than GTAV that's around the corner, I can't think of a more technically impressive open world game of its kind on consoles.

I thought the original was underrated graphically too. There's a lot of action going on in these games, and Cole was so well animated.

Shame how the powers felt much weaker then Infamous 1.

Did they? I didn't feel that way at all. The only thing I disliked was the powers were all in "categories" which meant sometimes I couldn't have two of the powers that I wanted mapped at the same time. Such as I never really used that shield power in inFamous 2 because I didn't want to lose the other power options mapped to that same button.

I think it was more that the powers were more balanced in 2, as I seemed to rely on only a couple types of attacks for most of inFamous 1. So maybe if you really enjoyed those 1 or 2 really powerful attacks in inFamous 1, making all the powers more balanced with each other feels like "weaker".

The first game had some gorgeous skyboxes if nothing else.

Outside of the image quality, I thought both games looked quite good.

1 looked technically awful (read it was the PS2 engine ported), but had quite nice art design (the reapers and most of the enemy design was amazing, on top of the shanty towns).

2 looked technically amazing (did you SEE their ambient occlusion solution, it was way better than SSAO) but had horrendous art design (mutants, Cole debacle, Kuo and Nix looking like 90's Saturday morning TV show characters).

So... Neither of them were visually at their best for one reason or another, but both were great fun to play.

You're only setting yourself up for disappointment.
There will be some destroyable elements but you won't be able to go around and turn the whole city into rubble. Be realistic people, come on.

It's a lot weaker in terms of versatility. Grenades, rockets, and shockwave was awesome at max rank for Hero powers. In Infamous 2 I just spammed bolt shot. It's a shame.

Infamous 1 was shiteous but Infamous 2 was really a looker. It has a lot of effects not present in very many open world games. It is beautiful.
