Another power video of The Darkness

Blimblim

The Inside Track
Sorry about creating a new topic, but searching for something right now is a tad annoying, to say the least. Anyway, here is a new video of The Darkness showing the Black Home power.

I don't know, I think it's a tad too angular. Texturing is great that's for sure.

too angular? You mean the environments aren't complex enough? I think it looks awe inspiring. Probably the second best looking game after crysis

Has someone thought about doing an official thread. I'd do it but I'm forum posting-challenged. The game is like only 3 weeks away.

The animations are looking pretty nice. The baddies getting pulled into the black holes look like they are scripted.

you can only create official threads one week before the game comes out. new rule

I've played the preview version. Almost finished build, a good couple of hours.

While I can't tell any details (NDA until 12 june) I can say the game blew me away completely. Didn't have any expectations, but I think it's one of the biggest surprises of the year.

The game did gave me the special feeling only a very few games give me, such as Mafia. It's not only perfect action but also a very, very good storyline.

Please people, more hype. The game deserves it.

yeah, I'm still doing it....though I didn't know about the new rule...Thanks Doom, though :)

So are the Riddick-style melee combat, stealth, and adventure/RPG elements still in this game? If not, my enthusiasm will be dampened significantly.

Why use melee when you can push someone 20 meters up in the air with tentacles?

Anyway, can't wait to get my hands on this game!

This game looks awesome. The only problem I have with it is that the trailers look really scripted. I hope you will be able to do all these awesome things during real gameplay at anytime. Like for example the shot with the building crumbling and sucking into the black hole. Will we be able to do that to any building we want, or is it just a one time thing?

Which makes it exactly the same as Riddick. Could never understand why people drooled over Riddick's visuals--extremely simple geometry painted with bump-mapped textures. The tiny cramped environments with the load times every five minutes made it even less impressive to me.

What platform are people buying it for?

Think it'll matter at all?
Yeah there is one difference, the PS3 version has more different movies running on the TV's that are in the game. They used the extra capacity if the Blu-Ray discs for that.

I'm getting the PS3 version because of the controller. 2x that if the Splitfish buggers ever get around to releasing the FragFX.

I thought that was attributed to the Cell being more capable of handling video streams?

Nope:

GSUK: You've talked about using the increased capacity of Blu-ray for movies and TV shows that will play within the game. How will this add to the experience?

DG: Yeah, well Blu-ray offers us around 25GB to play with, so we're looking to license old TV shows, adverts, and cartoons to build entire TV channels in the game. You can actually turn on the TVs in the game and watch a film, watch a TV series, anything you want really. It's a little bit gimmicky, but at the same time, it's a really cool feature. Also, we tell mission-specific information through the TVs where it's needed.

Riddick all over again?

Not really. There are elements taken from Riddick, such as the aiming without crosshair but with a little red pointer, the switching to third person when performing actions such as climbing ladders, the seeing of your hands and feet, the collectibles (not cigarette packs but phone numbers) and also the graphical look.

But I would say that this game has a much deeper and emotional story, a more unique feel than Riddick already had and fantastic gameplay variation. You can do quite some of the parts of the game on completely different ways, and that's not PR bullshit.

Also it has a more cinematic feeling thanks to some very nice graphical twistst and gruesome execution animations.

So yes, you can feel it is made by the creators of Riddick but it has a very unique feel and it surpasses Riddick in terms of storyline, involvement in the story, cinematic feeling and satisfying action. And Riddick was already a very good game...

EDIT: to the guy about the 'scripting' feeling of the trailers: it's totally NOT scripted. You can perform the actions anytime and you can kill the baddies in completely different ways. The Creeping Dark power for example is at least twice as cool ingame as it is in the trailer, it's plain brilliant.
