Another Source 2 related leak?

After some high-level hacking on the Steam server I found this:

I will leave all to judge for themselves the significance.

Anything that calls the game HL3 is an obvious fake, there is no reason at all to think the next game will be called that.

I don't think that Valve would hide it behind a codename. 'Operation Crowbar' or something like that. I really think that, after as many years as it has been, it'd just be referred to internally as Half Life 3. Not the second coming of Jesus, just a new game Valve are making.

iirc CS2 is actually how Valve refers to GO
Nah, CS2 is not CS:GO.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is Valve's new version of Counter-Strike. Valve was quick to make clear that this wasn't "CS2" (or whatever that even really means) but rather a a multi-platform team based FPS similar to its predecessors, Counter-Strike 1.6, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, and Counter-Strike: Source.

Presentation PowerPoint is from 2011 by the way. Filelist is legit.

dunno

Either way, at the rate GO has been growing the past year I doubt we'll get CS2 anytime soon.

But that was then. They've done a complete rethink in regards to how they handle GO. I'm sure if they could go back, the official title would be CS2.

yeah that game is barely coming into it's own and hitting peaks of 100K concurrent daily and making them plenty of money with keys and market transactions. Releasing a "CS 2" anytime soon would be profoundly stupid and just ruin the CSGO scene again with another horrible split. Hopefully go would just be upgradable to the new Source engine and continue getting tweaks.

All the signs point to the fact that Valve IS working on Half Life 3 - are there people who honestly think they're not? Because I find said people rather silly.

Not getting into this cycle. I'm sure they are working on HL3, but until they announce it officially, meh.

I guess if it was anything, GDC could be the next potential reveal, but E3 more likely, but
neither
even more likely.

I mean wouldn't that just separate the community in these games. Not everyone will have capable rigs to handle the new engine. CS is already fragmented as it is, doubt Valve want to extend that.

Half Life 3 comes out, people play the shit out of it. A few months later it's forgotten. That's the sad truth here. Stop hyping up this game people!

They could swap the Source 2 branched version out for the original (kinda akin to the various engine upgrades HL2 received on Steam), but it would be a massive patch, and it might leave a bad taste in people's mouths if the technical requirements jump too much.

Much like all the other Half-Life games have been forgotten after a few months.

You're talking crazy nonsense, foo.

The gaming world has changed so much since HL 2. I can't imagine it being as revolutionary as the first two were.

You're talking revolutionary, but you're glossing over the fact that the revolutionary aspects of Half-Life 1 and 2 were almost always misunderstood, or sidelined for aspects of minor pieces of the design that are copied and distorted beyond all proportion by others. That Half-Life 3 would be an anomaly isn't actually uncharacteristic... whatsoever.

Who is testinglol (the source of this screenshot)? The hl2 folder makes to good to be true. But anyway, is the tf folder a hint for a possible team fortress (2?) source2 remake?

I post on Facepunch (and almost exclusively in the TF2 major update speculation thread that the OP linked to) and Testinglol is a very reliable source. He has posted various bits of Team Fortress 2 news and updates in the major update speculation thread before they were announced by Valve, including details on MvM mode and a picture of a map in development. He has proven multiple times in the past to those of us in the Major Update Speculation thread that that he has some sort of link to Valve.

Welll at this point this kind of reveal makes sense. Source is old now and I always imagined much like with Half Life 2 they'd save Half Life 3 for their next big engine. I just hope if it is all true that it carries on from the end of episode 2. That cliffhanger ;_;
