LOS ANGELES and SANTA MONICA, CA, January 21, 2015 – Hulu has greenlit an order for a long-form comedy series from Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF) and RocketJump, the three companies announced today. The series will be produced by RocketJump in association with Lionsgate Television and will stream exclusively on Hulu.

Fresh off the Season 3 success of RocketJump’s YouTube series Video Game High School, the new Hulu original will expand upon the global success of Freddie Wong and RocketJump’s short films. Each half-hour episode of the series will chronicle the filmmaking behind RocketJump’s newest short. The eight full episodes will be released exclusively on Hulu on a weekly basis and the newly-created shorts will premiere exclusively on Hulu as well.

The project marks RocketJump’s first series for Hulu and first series to premiere exclusively off the YouTube network.

“As we continue to add the best talent to Hulu, it was a natural choice for us to partner with Freddie Wong and RocketJump,” said Beatrice Springborn, Head of Originals, Hulu. “With so many great content creators in the media landscape – from film, to television, to YouTube – Freddie Wong and the RocketJump team undoubtedly bring their own brand of creativity and a new wave of talent to Hulu.”

With over 7 million subscribers and over 1 billion video views, RocketJump has established themselves as one of the premier creators of award-winning digital content. Their breakout action comedy YouTube series Video Game High School generated over 84 million views within just its first two seasons, and was named Variety’s best web series of 2013.

“We firmly believe the future of television is online, and Hulu has recognized the value of quality long-form series,” said Freddie Wong, co-founder of RocketJump. “We’re incredibly excited to bring our brand of over-the-top action and comedy to a new audience in a show that will change the way you look at independent filmmaking.”

“We’re thrilled that Hulu has greenlit the first long-form series from our collaboration with Freddie Wong and the incredibly talented team at RocketJump,” said Lionsgate Digital’s Jordan Gilbert. “Freddie is one of digital media’s most prolific and visionary creators, and this new series underscores our commitment to build our own unique pipeline of long-form digital content for online television audiences.”

The series joins Deadbeat and Casual as the third original series Hulu has ordered from Lionsgate.

So much for hoping he would write for BL3...

Really loved his script for Borderlands 2. Pre-Sequel definitely suffered from his lesser involvement. Hopefully the franchise can stay fun without his input.

Best of luck to him.

I am psyched for the Borderlands franchise that this guy isn't writing for them anymore. The hit the writing took in Borderlands 2 completely soured me on the series.

Wait.. so their making a mockumentary about the Youtube Rocket Jump videos??

Mockumentaries are pretty bad as whole imo. I did like Best of Show though.. I dunno.. GL to him. I may not understand but I wish him great success.

I wish him the best but I really didn't like the humor for BL2 at all. I'm assuming he wrote for Tina who I thought was an awful character.

Damn. I wasn't the biggest fan of BL 2s writing. But people are being a little mean spirited here? Or is the guy an awful person or something?

He's certainly outspoken and the humor is pretty specific, I would say. Harsh reactions here though, I was surprised.

Yea the lowbrow references and ready-for-meme jokes in BL2 really disappointed me. Heres hoping BL3 can muster something more than a line of quests that require you to do stupid things related to Top Gun.

Burch is a good guy and I hope this works out well for him. He was a major voice in pushing for the series to be more diverse and inclusive, so it would be pretty shitty if they give up on that and make the cast of BL3 genetic because of "market forces" or some nonsense.

Was he the reason for all of the terrible jokes and writing in BL2?

shit, who will replace him as the guy who goes into 4chan threads and then writes for borderlands 3

Good news. His writing ruined Borderlands for me.

Are we sure that it was his writing that focused on the memes, and not Mike Neumann? Like him or not, Burch came up with some great characters for BL2, most notably Handsome Jack. I don't know why people seem to think he ruined the story in BL2 when the story in BL1 was essentially non-existent.

Imho, Handsome Jack was the worst character in the game, even worse than ClapTrap.

I'd rather have an almost nonexistent story that allows my imagination to fill in the gaps than one written by reddit/4chan where all the stupid meme shit is old and terrible and comes off as pandering to 12 year olds.

Because the story he added was significantly worse than having no story at all.

Mike Neumann is such an enigma. His food and film opinions are so insufferably snobby, but then he also thinks chipmunk voices are the height of comedy.

From what I understood Neumann didn't really do much of anything on the Borderlands 2 story. Plus Neumann also did the writing for Brothers in Arms.
