Any dead musician, who would you bring back?

Georges Bizet, a genius who died before he could see his masterpiece "Carmen" become one of the most popular operas ever written. God knows he had so much more to give.

Janice Joplin and maybe Layne Staley. Joplin is the only singer I've ever listened to and I was sad that I never got to see her live. Staley because his voice is just amazing. I can listen to Rooster all day even now.

So many greats already mentioned so i'll go with house legend Frankie Knuckles ...

Layne is a good one! Rooster is one of the best songs.

I don't know if a lyricist counts, but I would pick Howard Ashman. I would love to have heard what he and Alan Menken would have come up with for Disney if he had lived.

Otis Redding would be mine.

Dude died at 26 in a plane crash. His voice had the soul of a man in his fifties when he was in his early 20s, can't imagine how soulful he woulda sounded after a life of hardship and whiskey.

Yeah he'd be tied with Townes Van Zandt for me actually. Otis was a goddamn genius with guaranteed years and years of incredible music ahead of him.

Vote for Frank Zappa here. Not that the man hadn't left us with four lifetimes worth of music anyways... but he stood up to a lot of bullshit and called people out on it too. I would have loved to have seen him working with some of the talent discovered by the Internet as well.

I'm gonna say Nujabes. Since he died in a car accident, and not as a result of any kind of underlying health problems or addiction, hopefully that means were he to be revived he could go on to be happy and productive.

Randy Rhoads is the reason I started playing guitar 20 years ago. Listening to Over the Mountain on the radio for the first time changed my life.

Strong urge to say John Lennon... but fuck that, I want to see what some of the great classical composers would do with modern electronic composition abilities.

So many great names said already. It's difficult to say if artists' careers would not have been ruined later in their career, which would be a huge bummer. But I would have loved to hear more Joy Division, so Ian Curtis.

Def Leppard's White Lightning, Steve Clark. When he died, the band lost the indefinable brilliance that Steve brought with him. It's debatable whether he would've continued with them anyway, seeing as he was on a leave of absence due to his drinking, but even so, he was a great loss and Leppard's music has never really had that magical touch since (though I'm still a fan).

I would've loved to see what he would've brought to Slang...

Hendrix for sure. He was only really beginning to break out of the psychedelic/pop realm near the end of his life with things like Band of Gypsies. I think he was on the verge of creating some amazing collaborative projects that would have proven even more influential than his previous works.

There are others who have died when they were older and kind of thematically "trapped", but Jimi was still very young and just really getting started, despite his massive output early in his life.

Vivian Cambell was a ridiculous replacement too.
Dio was pissed when he went to Def Lep - "Hope he fucking dies!" "Def fucking who?!!":

Actually for me Gram Parsons would be up there on the list. I want to hear his cover of Wish You Were Here.
