Any fans of Tecmo's Deception?

I just found this in my basement and remember how much it scared the shit outta me. I remember getting the evil ending(only played through it once) and being too much of a bitch to play again.

Are there any games now which use the idea of traps and thinking your way to killing an enemy like you could in this? Would love someone to take this idea and make it have user-created content for online play.

I dig the game. It feels a bit dated these days but it still plays pretty well. The atmosphere and gameplay are still unique too.

I kinda want to play that Trapt PS2 sequel or whatever someday.

I can't think of any games that really do the same kind of thing the Deception series does where you have an active avatar in the game world but you (usually) aren't directly fighting your opponents. There are things like Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida (and YKN or2), which has similar concepts, but they're unfortunately few and far between.

Although I feel like I should ask....you guys realize that, in addition to Trapt, there was a second and third game in the Deception series (Kagero: Deception 2 and Deception 3: Dark Delusion) for PSX, right? They didn't really match the same kind of vague and haunting story-telling of the first game (the third game is pretty anime, really), but they focused more on the actual trap-setting function of the gameplay, with the added ability to chain traps together so enemies get flung around from trap to trap.

As I always like to link it, check out the SA Let's Play archive for full playthroughs of the first three games:

http://www.lparchive.org/LetsPlay/

They should give you are fairly good idea of what's involved in the second and third title.

Oh god yes, loved these games. I would absolutely love an updated version of this game for 360 or PS3. Or hell, given the nature of the game they could do a XBLA or PSN version of an update i'd be happy with.

Pikmin says hi.

And yes, I love the Deception games, and would absolutely love to see a PS3/360 version.

Well, I liked Dark Delusion but that was the only one of the series I played and owned. Never tried the others but I would love to see how a new iteration of the game would play out.

I love the Deception series. Especially Kagero and Dark Delusion. I actually picked up Trapt too :) Wasnt too bad. Just painful dialogue and presentation :(

While I only played it once, I didn't like it very much, I thought Kagero was best out of the entire series.

I loved this serie on PSX.

Devil's Decaption 3 probably the best of the three.

Unfortunately PS2's iteration (Trapt) haven't been so bright.

But the concept, IMHO, is still great and could deserve a new title.

Did you ever play 2 and 3.? they were so much better those 2 are 2 of my most loved PS games,it was also so fresh and different yet no big splash was made about it.

Yup lots of fun... I picked up the last one a bit back but never played it... one of these days...

With the graphics power now on the console market it would look incredible, imagine UE3 Deception with blood and guts all over..:lol

I would love to see this one from Tecmo.

yes yes, I remember it taking my whole ps1 memory card for 1 save file. and it took 10min to do so everytime.

oh yeah, great game too !

I'm a big fan of the first game. The change to third person and marginalization of Satan really ruined the series.

I was always intrigued by this series, but I never played a game.

Can you still go back and have fun with them or are they just too old to have fun with now?

This game was incredibly bad ass... don't think I've power gamed through any other game like this before. Best part is... I bought the last copy, beat it within a day or two, and brought it back saying the cutscenes were skipping (launch PS1) so I was able to return it, and choose a different game, since they had no more Deceptions to give me. herher

Looks damn good for a PS1 game. Should be able to have fun with it. I only played the original.

Edit: Also, the concept is fairly unique, so it will likely be new and fresh for you to play.

Kagero was fantastic.

Trapt... not so much.
Came here to pimp Kagero as well. No other games like the Deception series these days. We need a PS1 to PSN release if possible.

Deception was nothing less than the fucking shit. I still haven't gotten around to playing Trapt, but definitely I hope they revisit the franchise before this generation is up. Tecmo can knows how to get some juice out of the 360 so I could only imagine how amazing it would look.

This game is probably the reason why I mostly play as evil or semi evil characters in games that give you morality choices. You could do some pretty sadistic things, I really didn't know what to think when characters would come to your mansion desperately seeking food/shelter or frantically looking for a missing person whom you had slain earlier.

I thought Trapt was serviceable. But I'm not a hardcore fan of the series ... just a modest fan. I own all three of the PS1 games along with Trapt. Took a decent amount of time to find the third one, actually.

I loved the shit out of Kagero until I got to one of the later stages where I COULDN'T. FUCKING. DAMAGE. THE. ENEMY. I couldn't figure it out. Drove me nuts. But the mechanics of the game were awesome.

Dark Delusion was decent as well.

These games have always been a guilty pleasure of mine. They provided hours and hours of fun regardless of any shortcomings in design and performance. I currently own 1-3 on the PS1 and Trapt for the PS2. The second game on PS1 (Kagero) was definitely my favorite of the bunch. I can just remember setting up combos of dropping oil pots on innocent peoples’ heads then shooting them with flame arrows to ignite the oil and finally using a floor spring to launch them into a fire place or some other environmental hazard. Ahhhh all the good memories. :D

Yeaaaaaa, I think I'm gonna go track this game down.

No I haven't but thats gonna change after reading these impressions.

Have them all. Played through 1 and 2, dabbled a bit without much commitment in 3 and have had Trapt on the shelf for a couple years waiting for the right moment. I actually liked the fps-style 1st one more than most.
