Any negatives to putting a 360 on its side?

What about 45degs? I want mine to look like half of an X.

You should have bought one of these.

I dont really need the space, my entertainment center is getting packed and all these things run so hot that you cant put them in confined spaces anymore. I have had 2 360's rrod horizontally but I guess I will keep it that way for now and make due. The stupid entertainment center has these sliding glass doors that my wife closes all the time so If I have the 360 (left side) and the Stereo (right side) on at the same time I have to slide the doors kind of in the middle to let both get air. Anyway I thought of putting the 360 next to the stereo vertical so I could just leave the glass doors open on one side.

Always kept mine vertical since launch. First one died RROD (but who's didn't?). Had the second one since Jan 07 vertical, no scratched discs or other issues. No chance of knocking it over or moving it while in operation where I have mine situated.

I've always had them horizontal.

But now that I have 2 set up, the one upstairs is vertical when it's NOT on, to save space, but for the odd occasion it's played for a bit, I go back to horizontal.

As other people have already mentioned, i would guess that the biggest negative thing about putting a Xbox 360 (or any other console for that matter) on it's side (verticaly) is that there is a bigger chance for it falling/tipping over (unless if the console is in a shelf or something with good supports on both sides, so the console cant tip over). Other than this, i havnt heard that there is anything negative about having the Xbox 360 on the side at least :)

Don't make your consoles stand vertical people, please. Let them rest on the proper position, like the cute girl you wanna sleep with.

Unless you're mentally incapable of NOT moving your system while it's on and not pushing it over time after time, vertical and horizontal use are equal.

Pretty sure vertical has better airflow, Keeps it cooler.

The biggest vent on the 360 is on the bottom of the console when you have it vertical.
When it is standing vertical you are basically blocking up one of its main vents.

A major problem with the 360 is there are no "feet" or risers on the bottom so if you have it horizontal the bottom vents are blocked. I put some vinyl bumpers from the hardware store on the bottom of mine so now it sits higher horizontal and gets more cool air from the bottom and there is a laptop cooler underneath it. I can post a picture if anyone wants an idea of what to get.

Vertical, since I have no room for a horizontal 360.

It bit me in the butt the other day, scratches a disk when putting it into the tray. ;__;

Had it vertical, was killing El Fuerte, girlfriend tripped on the LAN cable, SFIV went bye bye. Now I keep it horizontal and I bought a wireless adapter.

You know, in most game stores they have disc repair machines, right? Those laserburns are easily fixed with one of those, comes right out and its not expensive. We get discs like that come in all the time at the store I work at and I've never seen anyone bring a game back after its been buffered.

I would put it horizontal, but didn't a ex-MS engineer said that by putting it vertically the system is cooler as a larger surface area is exposed to the air.

Mine's been vertical ever since.

I've had mine standing up vertically since I got it. Same for my Wii. No issues with disc either. I figured vertically was the best way to make sure the system received proper air flow since if you have it horizontally a lot of holes are covered by the table or floor you have the system on. Less so if it's standing up. My PS3 is the only system have flat and that's mostly because I have no room to stand it up.

Higher chance of this happening

Don't do it unless you HAVE to, if you're low on space or something.

Same exact thing that happened to my brothers nba 2k9....luckily he took the disc to play n' trade and got it repaired cuz the damage wasnt too bad. All of my games are scratch free since I always have my system horizontal. NEVER.....EVER.... sit your 360 vertically.

All the systems were "designed that way." If you play smash bros it's better to leave it horizontal to prevent people from tripping over the gamecube controller cables and wrecking your game disc.

I was refering to the fact that the Wii comes with the stand (unlike the PS3 or 360, which can be stood up, but the default position is flat). Nintendo's pretty much stated that standing it up is the default position for the console.

Ask the majority of people who own and Wii and I'm willing to bet that having it standing up will have the most results.

How is this configuration as far as airflow is concerned. I just got my J360 last month and kept it in that position since.

If it was built for that.....

Well, the system was built with fans on the inside so it wouldn't overheat and we've all seen how well that works out.

Just because it "appears" that it was built to be on its side, doesn't mean it should be put on its side.

I have had mine always vertically...it's pretty solid. No chance of falling over (it's heavy/sturdy). No scratched disks at all.
