Anyone else buying the Slim over the Pro?

Choosing regular over Pro would be silly considering for about 30% more money you get more than 200% power.

it's my understanding that for $300 every single ps4 slim comes with a bundled game (for my region, it's UC 4)

pro, on the other hand, does not. this is based on numerous threads on SlickDeals and CheapAssGamer

given this info, it starts to make more sense to get a slim

seems like slim has way more offers/deals going around given that it is supposed to replace the OG ps4. again, I paid $239.99 for my UC4 ps4 slim bundle

i'll take a UC4 ps4 slim bundle for $239.99 over a ps pro for $400 any day

They play the same games, I play my multiplatform games on PC, and $100 is still $100. I could spend it on a couple more games or sock it away for PC upgrades or a new TV...

If I didn't already have a regular PS4, I would still get the slim.

Can't say I agree with you, if I could sell my phat ps4 for $300 today I would get the pro without thinking twice and I only have a 1080P TV.

I have my reservations about the pro but I think overall it'll be a better deal, especially with bundles next year (maybe even a few good black friday or holiday deals will pop up this year), but even on release it's a decent deal.

The CPU is the same as the OG model. I doubt any games will get a boost to 60FPS.
What? That really is dependent on if the game is CPU bound or GPU bound. Most games are likely GPU bound. Hell I just upgraded my GPU on my PC from a Radeon 7870, which is close to the PS4, to a GTX 1060 and it easily put all games at 60 fps when they weren't before. That's a perfect example of how a GPU alone can bump framerate.

I don't mean this to sound harsh - but if the $100 difference is the major reason you are going Slim over Pro...then maybe you shouldn't be buying a new console in the first place. If you still want one, i'd investigate getting a used PS4 as those will be substantially cheaper and the OG PS4 is small already and most versions are pretty quiet and the physical form of the console is something you're likely to rarely ever care about after the first few days.

For $100 more you get more than twice the power of the PS4, double the hard drive size, "Pro" mode on some past games and all future games (big big benefits to both 1080p and 4K TV's) and also the peace of mind knowing that you are playing games on the current top of the line Playstation.

Honestly, Slim would be a distant 3rd place if someone were asking me which Playstation to get. Pro in first place and a used OG budget version would be my second place and those could flip depending on what type of console gamer you expect yourself to be.

$100 more for twice the GPU power is borderline robbery. You'll never see that in the realm of desktop PC parts, and for good reason.

Justifications for going slim don't make much sense in reality.

Great food for thought right here.

I think many of the more complex open-world games like GTA V and InFamous SS are largely CPU-bound. For example, the Xbone version of GTA V actually has a small FPS advantage over the PS4 version in heavy traffic or cop chases.

Agreed 100 percen wit everything you said inf regards to Pro v Slim. Maybe just save extra $50 per month over the next two months and buy a Pro. It does release two months after the Slim.

If you care about your console not sounding like a lawnmower they absolutely do. That was a major issue for me with the original PS4 and the Pro seems to be packing far more power into an enclosure that's only slightly larger with no additional ventilation.

We'll see how it shakes out on release, but the positive reviews of the Slim swayed me to go ahead and order that model.

I need help with this, someone please give me some advice. I'm ready to purchase a PS4 but I'm not sure which to get, I wasn't really impressed with what the Pro seems to do but I'm not that knowledgable in games anyway so maybe it is more impressive than what I can tell. I'm a broke college kid so saving $100 would be nice, but I'm also the type of person who would LOATHE not having the best version of something if it was absolutely necessary. That said, I don't have a 4k TV and probably won't for many years. Is Pro something I should really concern myself with? If I get a slim, are Pro players going to be having much better gaming experiences than I would?

You're basing that off of an assumption.

It's far more logical to wait for reviews of the Pro.

I currently don't have a working PS4 though, so unless we're certain about the heat/noise of the Pro it makes more sense for me to just get the slim now.

In any case, it'll be a few years before games start to seem "gimped" on the standard PS4 compared to the Pro. Anything coming out this year or next was primarily targeting the standard spec through most of development. I only play console exclusives and shooters on console anyway, I'd rather put the extra $100 toward a GPU upgrade. The Pro's will still be there if I ever need one. :-P

I'm buying neither. But if I were to, I'd definitely get the Pro as I see no reason in not spending the extra $100 on a more powerful console that'll have better performing games.

I will wait – of course – until more developers release updates to their games and see the direction they take when it comes to utilising the extra horsepower the console has.

I was thinking about doing so, but the price isn't worth it. I think I'll wait it out and choose between a (by then) cheaper Slim, or a new Pro that doesn't skimp out on basic features.

Time to get a new pair of glasses lol. 4K or even upscaled 4K is truly amazing.

well i did just get glasses for the first time lol. i guess if people want enough new games bad enough they will probably pay extra to see them as glorious as they get. for someone like me who just dicks around on playstation these days the slim is probably perfect

I'm with all those who are telling you to go with the Pro and I've been a vocal critic of the Pro if you've seen any of my recent responses to threads on the Pro. But that is regarding people who already have a PS4. Since you're buying your first PS4 outright buying the Pro is the smartest move for overall future proofing and you can easily justify the extra bit of money not just because of the power but also due to the increased drive space out of the box.

You've made a good argument for a slim imo. OK me peronally I'd get the Pro but I see nothing wrong with your reasoning for a slim. Seems like it's gonna fit your needs.

If I upgrade it'll be to Pro. I get your logic but the Pro looks to not only offer even better performance in 1080p but will certainly be better for VR too. Not to mention going forward I expect most titles, like RISE, to have a Pro enhanced mode.

Slims a great deal short term but I think the Pro's the better long term buy.

I'm in the same boat as a second ps4. Not sure to go with the pro or the slim. I have a pretty decent PC with a 1070 and a regular Xbox one. So really the only thing that would get noticeable improvements for would be Sony games/consule exclusive games like Destiny. Destiny is actually the real game I'm looking at since that's the majority of time put into gaming. Looking ahead though, it sounds like the rise of iron isn't going to get an update. And they're looking ahead at Destiny 2 for support.
