Anyone else completely uninterested in portable gaming?

I have a 3DS myself. If I game on a portable, I have to do it on a big screen. So, I'm eventually going to buy the 3DS XL. I already have a DSi XL. I love gaming on that system. I'm good if the screen is large enough.
 
I don't have any where to play portables. The last portable gaming device I had was a PSP and I mostly used that at home to browse the internet. That was back when I still had dial-up and the leeched signal from my neighbor was actually faster than using my computer.

I miss out on things all the time, I'd drive myself neurotic if I became concerned over that.

And I didn't miss Demon's Crest, the best Makaimura spinoff game ever.

I actually did play Gargoyle's Quest, as those games came out when I was younger and owned a Gameboy. Being trapped in a hockey rink as a child in the late 80s/early 90s because my older brother had a tournament to play every other weekend, you hoped the hockey rink had either an arcade, a pinball machine or a pool table, otherwise it was 5-7 hours of nothing to do, as playing outside in the parking lot in -30C weather was NOT an option. The Gameboy freed me from the madness of hours of solitaire.

This is why I have never disputed their necessity in the marketplace. Children, for one example, have a very strong use-case scenario for handhelds. The only question nowadays is "which one"? I would have KILLED for the internet on the go when I was younger, but when I was in my elementary school days, the consumer-accessible internet barely even existed, let alone cellular or Wi-Fi.
 
I really dislike how devs only make 3D games for the 3DS/Vita these days. IMO playing advanced 3D games with small thumb sticks on a small screen just doesn't feel right, it's the reason why I gave up on the MH games on the PSP (loved the PS2 game btw), the camera/controls were just really terrible and killed what could've been some great games imo. I think it's the reason why I still have no interest yet in any of the current gen handhelds, simply because the games just feel like a downgraded console games and not a unique handhelds games like what they used to be.
 
I've never been into portable gaming. For me it's always been either console or pc.
My first system ever was a gameboy, but a week later my parents let me return it and get a SNES instead.
 
Me, I think it works better when you are a kid. I can't find any reason to own an handheld, at least a reason that would work for me.

I never think about playing games outside of the house.
 
Interesting to see this bumped.
In light of GBA being on WiiU Virtual Console, it looks as though patience has netted us non-handheld gamers a victory.
Bring on the DS VC next!
 
Me. If I'm on the move I don't want to be carrying any more than my mobile, that and mobile games are getting more advanced by the day. When I'm at home I want a big screen experience, so a portable really does nothing for me.

my situation is different. i have a 2 hour commute (one hour each way) by train 5 days a week. It's almost the ONLY time i'm able to squeeze in gaming time.

Once i'm home I'm making dinner, working out, and getting work done. Even the weekends I usually only end up with a couple of hours free.

The vita is awesome for my commute- I would game way less otherwise.

DS VC probably won't happen, but it would be pretty cool. Don't know if it would really work though since you can see both screens at the same time to some extent with a DS, but with a Wii U you have to shift your eyes a bunch.
 
I have both a 3ds and vita and have not really touched either. but I will probably break down and play through fire emblem the demo was just what I have been wanting to play.
 
I've been the opposite lately. I've been playing my 3DS a lot more than my consoles. I'm wrapping up my undergrad by April, so I've been pretty busy, but I get some play time on my commute. I find it pretty useful and StreetPass is addicting.
 
I appreciate portable gaming even more now as I dont have much time to stay home and play games. I love JRPGs and DS has them in spades. For Vita, thank god for Atlus.
 
While there are a lot of games I'm interested in for the Vita and 3DS, I just don't know when I would find the time to play them. Aside from on flights I never feel the need to play something on a portable. If I do, it's on my phone. For general work commutes I prefer reading to pass the time.
 
Some of the best gaming experiences I've had have been on portables. Old school RPGs are super fun on handhelds. So are 2D platformers. Also games like Castlevania in recent years have been a lot better on portables IMO. There are times when I play portables more then consoles.

I've always loved Portable gaming. Funny thing is, I don't take them anywhere with me, I play them at my home. For me, Portables offer amazing experiences that I wouldn't really play on a console.

There's plenty of games that are not available anywhere else, even entire genres that do very well on handhelds, that makes them impossible to avoid if you have a broad interest in gaming. Remember how few 2D platformers were made in the Playstation 2 generation? You'd have a different memory if you had bought the GBA. How about jrpgs or srpgs or just prime output from companies like Sony, Nintendo, Squareexix, Atlus and many others.

Then there's the stuff that's only really feasible on a handheld due to reasons of size and ergonomics like twisting the system for the vertical levels in Klonoa on Wonderswan or using it like a book in Hotel Dusk or the two screen dynamic in 999.

Fair enough if you choose to completely avoid a part of gaming, but you are missing out. It's silly to try and justify that loss by claiming it's "for kids".
 
I go in and out of love with it. Mostly it's just subway-gaming for portables, I rarely play them at home.

Unless it's Persona 4: Golden. I play that shit nonstop no matter where I am.

not to mention handhelds are at the point tech wise where they're able to do basically anything a GC or Xbox could do, if not more. The days where handhelds were a ghetto for kiddie games and licensed crap are pretty much over. There's a good amount of quality content that can be had.
