Anyone else find Nolan North in Arkham City INSANELY distracting?

NolanNorth.jpg

So I'm FINALLY making my way through Arkham City and didn't anyone think that this was a bit of a problem when putting this game together? It's fucking insane and incredibly distracting.

see here and here

...oh and here

Not to mention you CONSTANTLY here his voice throughout the game via random thug's radio chatter, only with slight variations of a semi-New Yorker and what not.
I also feel like Troy Baker is getting dangerously close of going full North as well.

This is a joke thread right? Whenever you want to point out that Nolan has range beyond Drake voice, you point to Arkham City.

He did a great job as Penguin. I didn't really notice him otherwise. Nolan North overload definitely exists in some games, but this didn't seem like one of them for me.

Well...er, no.

If anything you highlighted his range, as those characters didn't even have me thinking it all voiced by the same guy to begin with. I wouldn't even know unless you point out otherwise.

I didn't even know he did voices other than the penguin, and even then I didn't know it was him until I someone mentioned it.

I felt the same way when I read he did the voices of the defective turrets and various spheres in Portal 2 (Wheatley aside, obviously).

I can't unhear Drake whenever the thugs are talking. It doesnt really bother me, but the voice he uses for them is instantly recognizable for me.

I don't even know who Nolan North is. I don't look into the voice actors that much.
You may know him from 75% of the games you've played in the last 6 years.

His most notable roles are Nathan Drake in Uncharted, Captain Martin Walker in Spec Ops: The Line, and Desmond Miles from Assassin's Creed, amongst... everything else.

His Penguin was great, and I'm just now learning that he did Black Mask (never saw him myself in the game), which also sounds great.

An aside, his voice acting of Drake is great-great, but his greatest performance is of the crazy robot in Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time. It's great.

Nolan North is great.

Edit: Fuckin' animated-film quality voice-acting here.

The guys DOES have range. I think my issue with him in Arkham is outside of the Penguin, he just does the New Yorker thing and calls it a day. I started to single-out his voice fairly quickly and it was a bit of a bummer because, you know, considering the game's scale and budget, they COULD have just hired maybe a few more actors, no?

So i'm not crazy, thank you!

Only the first video (thugs) sounded like Nolan North to me.

I played through Arkham City and never realized North voiced Penguin.

Most (sane) gamers don't actually pay attention to the terrible cut scenes they watch. You just kinda watch them because they are there no matter how terrible they are. Only weirdos get into it (Metal Gear fans). So it's not surprising the average gamer doesn't notice the overlap of bad actors that get paid for their voices.

Not really no.

And all his time spent not voicing deadpool isn't time spent well.

No, sir no.

wow. I'm pretty shocked to see quite a few people say they didn't even notice... It's pretty blatant imo. I don't even play very many games anymore either.

Honestly I don't mind him most of the time, but I kind of agree with the OP here, he definitely stands out a little too much in Arkham City. Especially when hes the voice of literally EVERY thug in the game besides the times where it has two thugs talking to each other like that last video. annnnnnd considering every pack of thugs you run into in Arkham City are blabbing away constantly, every single pack has something to say, theres Nolan around every single corner in the game.

I wouldn't say it ruins it for me, but its almost like playing a GTA game and having Nolan being literally every npc voice in the game. Its a little too much. (oh god, as I say that I'm reminded about that Mafia 2 video posted above me lol)

But then again I was pretty shocked so few noticed Jennifer Hale in Bioshock Infinite.

Wait wait.
The Pengiun's voiced by Nolan North?
I didn't even know!

Sounds nothing like him.

Please speak for yourself, dude.
I enjoy watching cutscenes.
Also, being a Metal Gear fan makes you a weirdo?

There's a handful of voices that out there that I often recognize right away. Nolan North is one of them. (However, I knew penguin was North before I played).

I was playing Metro 2033 the other day and I swear every 3rd enemy was Yosuke (Yuri Lowenthal).

The only time it stands out in Arkham is when he's doing one of the random thugs voices.

Also, North is awesome.

Didn't have a problem with it...

But then I only recently started playing the Uncharteds, and despite his prolific body of work, I couldn't've identified his voice before playing them.
