Anyone else find Nolan North in Arkham City INSANELY distracting?

Wait wait.
The Pengiun's voiced by Nolan North?
I didn't even know!

Sounds nothing like him.

I only knew he played The Penguin because I read about it. And I didn't realize he was the Black Mask.

So no, I'm going to have to disagree with the OP. There are some voice actors that don't have much range and are in way too many games where they just use the same stupid voice over and over and over again. Nolan North is not really one of them.

I noticed him voicing random thugs in the game way too close to the end to really care, it actually made things a tad funnier when I heard "Who's screaming?!" in what I thought was totally Nathan Drake's voice.

I realized he had a wide range when I learned that he played all of the spheres in Portal 2. (Granted, two of them had filters.)

So I'm FINALLY making my way through Arkham City and didn't anyone think that this was a bit of a problem when putting this game together? It's fucking insane and incredibly distracting.

see here and here

...oh and here

Not to mention you CONSTANTLY here his voice throughout the game via random thug's radio chatter, only with slight variations of a semi-New Yorker and what not.
I also feel like Troy Baker is getting dangerously close of going full North as well.

I had no idea he voiced anyone in the game but the Penguin.

Those are all Nolan North? The only one that sounds like him is the first one. And even then I didn't realize it was him. So no. And seriously massive props to him for his work as Penguin, it sounds nothing at all like him, and his performance was spot on for Penguin. Stop hatin', OP.

Nolan North gets a lot of work because he has a great range and a solid understanding of the medium. I'm happy that he gets lots of work, he deserves it. But sure, more voices in a game for incidental encounters (e.g., thugs) would always be nice.

I definitely recognised him as one of the thug voices but I didn't know he was the Penguin. That was a good performance but his English accent was a bit Dick Van Dyke.

The only time Nolan North is distracting is when he does the Nathan Drake voice in a game that isn't Uncharted. Unfortunately that's most of the games that he does. The only thing more distracting is Steve Blum. If only it were possible to pay him money to not voice anything that isn't Spike Spiegel.

Uhh, please

Nolan North's best roles were obviously as N. Gin in the last 3 Crash Bandicoot games

you plebs would know that if anyone had actually played em :V
there is really no way to get his actually good lines from CTTR, but the commentary gets less boring at that point. Mostly because of Lex Lang, though

I didn't even realize he's Penguin until someone pointed it out in here, IIRC.

So no, he doesn't bother me much. His role is quite miniscule too.

I actually tried hard to recognize Drake's voice in Spec Ops after I saw his name but after a while, I realized that it's quite different so I stopped trying to find any similarities.

The only time his voice became a distraction was during Spec Ops: The Line and even then he did such a good performance that I eventually forgot he was Drake.

I'm incapable of recognizing voice actors in different projects.

Judging by how much I hear some people bitch I'm actually pretty grateful for this small disability.

Although I did notice it, I never found it distracting and didn't really think about it as I progressed through the game.

As others have said, I think North has great range and I really enjoy him as the current voice of Deadpool

Calling her a bitch so much is just lazy writing, but all the implied rape comments are shameful.

Makes perfect sense to me. What else are degenerate thugs going to say about when a woman in skin tight leather is running around?

But yeah, the bitch stuff was really annoying.

His normal talking voice is pretty noticeable, especially when everyone wanted a piece of it after Uncharted...but here are some characters he's played

Dude has serious range, but devs REALLY like his speaking voice, which is why you hear it a lot

I don't notice it as much but if I think about it, then yeah I've played a ton of games with the basic Nolan North voice in it. Kinda lazy for devs to just do that.

Jennifer Hale is about the same, except her voice is even more distinct that I almost never miss it.

The only game I really found him distracting was Spec Ops. Sounded so much like Drake.
How is it distracting if it's intentional?
You're supposed to be thinking about Nolan North and Nathan Drake while you're playing it, that's the point.

You were playing a third-person cover shooter with a protagonist voiced by Nolan North that was meant to be a deconstruction and criticism of the narrative dissonance found in Uncharted among many other modern shooters and you thought that the voices being too similar was distracting? Distracting from what, exactly?

Yeah..going by those youtubes I can't say that I can tell what the big problem is. How is this "insanely distracting?". It's like you're complaining just to complain

I'll take "Not Even Fucking Slightly" for $200, Alex.

If anything, I was distracted by Wolverine and Baird being everywhere. Guards, hooligans, you name it.

If it wasn't for GAF I never would have known Nolan was in it, much less the character he played. Just goes to show the range the man has on offer.
