If they made fucking Yoda fight with a lightsaber in the most ridiculous way, you can bet your ass Luke will.
I'm struggling to understand why people think Luke should be some super Jedi.
I mean, he *probably will be*, if only because Lucasfilm knows that's what people expect, and that's how he was in the old EU.
But as far as I can recall in the OT, he never displayed super advanced force abilities.
He was a novice Jedi in the OT. He never received proper training until he was rather old by Jedi standards and yet was able to go toe to toe with Vader, although Vader sandbagged some. And Palpatine also saw potential him.
they aren't topping that in these movies outside of stopping hundreds of blaster shots or bringing down a Star Destroyer

Yeah that movies boring.
tho.Vader
My statement stands. I love that scene and wish more of the movies had that level of brutality.
But really, I want him chucking big-ass Metsu Hadokens at the Knights of Ren all fuckin' day long.
why does everyone want see people get thought at to death? Break out the laser swords already.
I know that Expanded Universe is out the window, but is Luke really that strong?
You know they're gonna make him whip his lightsaber out because the general audience will complain about not seeing luke with his green lightsaber.
I hope we don't.
While I expect this, I also want Luke to pull a Star Destroyer outta of the air and crash it to the ground. With one hand. When Rey gets her hand chopped off Luke gonna pull out the green and save her ass.
If I don't see Luke kicking ass with his green saber, I will riot.
If they kill off Luke without giving us a single scene with his green saber, most of the Star Wars community will riot.
Given how Hamill continuously mentioned during SWC that these films "aren't about" him anymore, I actually expect that his role in this film will be disappointing to most. He'll train Rey, she'll need to leave to save her friends/defeat the First Order/meet up with Finn, and Luke will say something about not wanting to fight again, it's past his time, or he's "getting too old for this", and will elect to stay on the island and will be absent from the last 40% of the film.
The question is, why would he?
He should, in theory, be one of the most powerful beings in the universe. When you're as powerful as he should be, there's no need to dirty your hands with saber battles, you just force crush some bitches and go about your day.
In this new canon, is Luke actually all that powerful? That legend shit doesn't count anymore. Kylo didn't seem to have much trouble breaking off and torching his new academy in front of him. He doesn't seem to be very emotionally strong either (running away into exile...yet leaving a treasure hunt to find him, ha ha.).
So, how strong is Luke exactly now?
Maaaan, this would be so visually awesome, with such an easy to digest message. But they won't do it because Kylo likely has the crystal.![]()
There's always the Darksaber possibility.it won't happen, but hey, I like black lightsabers
Really though, it'd be cool if he used his green one, or created a new blue one while he was with the new Jedi Order.
I actually think it'd be cool if Luke used Darth's Red Lightsaber, showing hes not following the Jedi tradition and paying homage to his father.
Though I always suspected Kylo's saber was using Vader's cracked crystal, thus the unstable edge it had.

I'm pretty sure Vader's lightsaber is gone. It fell down the same shaft the Emperor did.
Flying an (T-65) X-Wing with R2 into battle with veterans of Rogue Squadron alongside Blue Squadron led by Poe/BB-8 > Lightsaber battle.
There's a group of dark side fanatics in the Aftermath books called the Acolytes of the Beyond that buy what they think is Vader's lightsaber. Whether it actually is or not is another question.
Go full hermit and use the force to control the lightsaber. Fuck it.
I hope he calmly wades through an army of stormtroopers, but instead of deflecting with his lightsaber, the blaster bolts just curve around him and hit the guys on the other side like he's Fortune in MGS2.
