Anyone else not really stoked on Skyward Sword?

Zelda is by far my favorite series and I am super-hyped for Skyward Sword but sweet, hot damn is every Zelda thread an unbearable clusterfuck of people complaining about everything under the sun.

Until there is some clarification that the game will present some sort of palpable challenge for people that aren't fucking morons, I'm passing.

The concept of motion plus doesn't at all translate to anything if none of the enemies present a challenge; or Link has so much health that it would take me literally 'turning off the console' to ever fear death. Doing simple motions to replace equally simple traversal/combat isn't exciting either.
You know that you don't have to pick up heart containers, right?

I'm not sure why a Wii U version is off the table? Why would they NOT do that is a better question, It's kind of like the swan song of Wii and can become one of the best early launch titles for Wii U with slightly better graphics and functionality. I guess Nintendo was always business savvy in strange ways

It's not going to happen. Wii U is still probably at least a year off, and pointer/motion controls are not the centerpiece of the new system whereas they're integral to Skyward Sword.

I'm definitely more hyped for Skyward Sword than I was for Twilight Princess, but that's not saying much. I'm in the camp that has never really been as enthralled with any Zelda as I was with ALttP.

I'm not sure what it is honestly. I loved OOT and Wind Water, but didn't really care for Twilight Princess (stopped at the water temple). I really want to be excited but there's really nothing here other than the prospect of the motion controls turning out well that's got me excited. I think I'm just burned out on Nintendo stuff to be honest. I sold the 3ds for a reason (but that's another topic), and I really think it's the same reason that I'm not stoked for this. I'll keep an eye out for deals and watch more media as it comes out, but for now I'm planning on skipping the first console Zelda i've ever skipped.

Trust me. It will be heavenly. I mean it's Nintendo's only Zelda game made from the ground up for Wii, and it's made very very late in the generation, they know this console inside and out by now, and Zelda will be Nintendo's final AAA contribution for the console before shifting to Wii U. Don't miss out on this! I for one will be there day one! :)

I've been saying the exact same thing. Just set some footage and cutscenes to an orchestrated Zelda medley and watch the hype roll in.

On the other hand the less hyped Skyward Sword is, the less backlash. TP got WAY too much backlash because of the insanely misguided hype.

I genuinely think that SS could be seen as one of the greatest in the series. It looks like Zelda distilled, with welcome changes where necessary.
You want people to be excited for it but not too excited for it so there's no backlash? That's kind of a difficult proposition.

As someone who's grown utterly bored with the Zelda formula, I'm excited to see if Skyward Sword actually mixes things up. The last Zelda I really liked was Wind Waker. Minish Cap, the DS games, Twilight Princess... Total snoozefest. I'm starving for a new, fresh, fun Zelda. Here's hoping Skyward Sword satisfies.

i dunno. the 3ds rayman origins might be a close runner-up to the ps3 rayman origins, which itself is in close contention with the 360 rayman origins.

Man what is it with you and Ubisoft seriously.

I would rather people not be excited but I still don't understand why they're not, right now. Especially being hyped for TP so much, SS looks much better than TP.

This is the only Zelda that I haven't been hyped for. Honestly, the only thing that is stopping me from buying this game is the "full control sword" gimmick. Have there been any announcements of classic controller support? The game looks gorgeous, but, I just can't see myself playing the game like that...

I've played through Links Awakening and OOT3D, that's enough Zelda for me for this year. I'm not really excited for Skyward Sword at the moment.

Twilight Princess got hyped for being a launch Wii title too, with new controls and everything. Personally I had already sold the GameCube by the time Zelda launched. I'm guessing that it's the same thing now with the Wii, maybe they don't own a Wii anymore?
Both Skyward Sword and Wii U would sell more and get more hype if there was a Wii U version, even if it was barely updated at all.

i will buy it .

that's it.

i don't remember seeing much of twilight princess before either .

NIntendo IMO never showed much of zelda games ....no reason to start now i guess.

If motion plus was more of a novelty and was more widely used, i guess people would talk much more about the games using it.

It's not having trailers and media blowouts to "hype" 18-35 crowd.

They've been letting lose on the details that are impossible to show on trailers and that's what has me excited. Sounds amazing.

Why wouldn't you want full control of a sword? I don't understand the dislike of motion control that is done well.

It can be done as well as it wants, I still won't enjoy it. It's not my thing.

Oh and the Media blowout that'll probably start around October, similar to Galaxy 2 is gonna turn a lot of heads around I'm sure.

Skyrim is my second most hyped game this year and I will be dropping it completely once Skyward Sword comes out and I 100% it. That is how hyped I am.

And all those still complaining about motion controls/whining for classic controller support? Please leave, the game is designed around Motion Plus and nothing is going to change. If you dont like it, fine, but its an old complaint that isnt going to alter anything.

Making you use the wrong hand is the very definition of "not done well" motion control.

Sure is going to change how many copies the game sells

My hype is pretty low because they announced it what feels like 20 years ago and I haven't really seen anything to get me excited since. Plus, it still won't be out for a while. I'll be buying it, though.

Not even Wii games that dont require motion controls?
Man. What a waste.

It is a waste, I agree. All the games that interest me I've rented or bought, including Silent Hill which I'm a huge fan of and read glowing reviews of that game, couldn't get past the controls. It's so uncomfortable I feel like I'm fighting the system the entire time.

Played Goldeneye w/ the classic controller. That is not a good FPS. Tried some others over the years, including Mario Galaxy, which I got about an hour into before quitting. Any other recommendations?

I bought a Ipad but I hate touch controls. Fucking piece of garbage
Control scheme isn't the only thing I don't like, and it's not like I hated motion controls before I bought the thing, like many it was my first foray into it. Took me a while to realize it's just not for me. Lack of software and ugly SD, terrible online, overpriced downloadable software, etc.

Which is weird, cause many awesome games for the system dont require motion controls.
I'd be open to hearing any suggestions.

Quit gaming?

You can beat SMG without using motion control, except for maybe the bosses. Blows my mind you'd hate the controls for that. And FPS's too, the Wiimote is superior to dual analogs in every way.

As for non-motion games why not try out Fire Emblem or Brawl or something.

Everyone else is saying it's unknown but there's basically at least one island in the sky with an actual world underneath.

Big fat no on the Wiimote superior to dual analogs. Crazy talk. Maybe for some but for me it is a nightmare trying to control a first person game by pointing the wiimote at the TV.

As far as SMG, it wasn't so much the "motion" controls as it was just a general lack of interest. I'm kinda over Mario ever since New Super Mario on the DS.
Smash Bros, Fire Emblem, I just don't think Nintendo's software lineup is for me. All of their flagship titles that get people excited I'm pretty meh at, with the exception of Zelda, which is why I've kept the system. But so far I'm nowhere near excited for it like I was TP or nearly every Zelda prior. That's just how I feel.

And now the news of this overworld of clouds.... kinda putting another damper on my enthusiasm.

As far as your suggestion to Quit gaming... why would I do that when there's so many kickass games on 360/PS3? Silly.

Wasn't that what he was saying as well? There are islands to explore a la WW on top, and under that there is an underworld.

It's all assumptions at this point. We won't know until release.

I'll buy it and play it but I'm not excited about it like I am the newer console stuff like Batman. It just doesn't look terribly innovative or exciting. I really wish they handed this franchise off to Retro. It needs some new blood from a forward-thinking studio.

No he was quoting where I said I hope it's not just a bunch of islands surrounded by clouds. Will wait patiently til the game's release, no matter what the overworld structure is like or how much motion shit they put in there, I'm still gonna play it.

I'm not excited at all, but it has more to do with TP being awful and just turning me off the series. With SS, I just don't see anything different enough to win me back.

I think I used up all my rabid Zelda hype between that E3 2004 Twilight Princess teaser and its actual release at the end of 2006. I'm still looking forward to Skyward Sword, but I honestly haven't been able to muster up a ton of excitement. Maybe I'm just getting old.
I feel the exact same way. I couldn't fucking WAIT for Wind Waker and TP but everything that's been shown for Skyward Sword has done absolutely nothing for me. It's been like that for damn near every Nintendo game for me this generation. I remember when mainline Mario, Metroid, and Zelda games used to cause me to go into a rabid frenzy of hype. Now I couldn't really care less about them.

So in a game that puts emphasis on exploration, and typically rewards a heart container for dong so, I need to go out of my way to not pick it up and cripple myself for the game to present a challenge? I hope not. I did that back in Twilight Princess on a second run, and the hardest thing about it was not accidentally getting 5 heart pieces from chests.

Personally I think it looks amazing and the trailer gets me really hyped whenever I watch it. It's the art style and combat that do it most for me. Music and animation are also sounding/looking amazing.

Mario Kart, Monster Hunter Tri, Smash Bros Brawl, Muramasa: Demon Blade, Tatsunoko VS Capcom, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Klonoa, Little King Story, Castlevania Rebirth, Contra Rebirth, Resident Evil 4, Geometry Wars Galaxies, Samurai Warriors 3, Rune Factory Frontier, A Boy and His Blob, Arc Rise Fantasia, Endless Ocean 2: Adventures of the Deep, NBA Jam, Sin and Punishment: Star Successor, Sonic Colors, TrackMania Wii, BIT.TRIP series, Gradius ReBirth, Xenoblade Chronicles, Last Story, etc...

Many of those I've played via gamefly, many of them I don't care to try, like Sonic, NBA Jam, etc. Muramasa is one I wanted to try but never got around to for whatever reason.

Thanks for the suggestions, but the console and Nintendo in general really just isn't for me. They have their audience and that's fine. I bought a 3DS and took it back. After I play Skyward Sword I'm just gonna move on. I have all 3 consoles so plenty of games for everyone.

Nope, not all of the treasure are heart containers now. You an also find upgrades for items and such. That was a really big problem in TP. There was just nothing optional except Hearts and Magic armor. That's it.

I'm really looking forward to treasure hunting in SS.
