Anyone else not really stoked on Skyward Sword?

This thread is ridiculous.

Complaints about this game are based on a lack of information and understanding.

Although I can understand the lack of hype.

My biggest complaint is the required motion+ and non HD graphics, which isn't a lack of information. But other than that the overworld and story and stuff I am clueless about. I hope it is awesome. This game could literally be about anything. It could be the best Zelda of all time for all I know, but I'm not expecting that.

Tell me about it. I do feel bad that some people are probably going to miss out on this one because of misunderstanding and uninformed criticism.

I don't think that was pointed at you. You have made your point, you don't like motion and such.

I haven't played a lot of HD games, but for the ones I have Skyward Sword happens to look more pleasing than a lot of them, even with the Wii's aliasing and poor image quality. I don't have much graphical taste anyway.

And I'm mainly referring to the people who spit out "rehash" without having anything to justify such a claim.

Since I couldn't bring myself to play any Zelda game for longer than an hour or so, no, I am not looking forward to Skyward Sword.

Zelda is my favorite series but I'm less excited for SS than I have been for any previous Zelda game. I'll still buy it day 1 and play the shit out of it though.

So in a game that puts emphasis on exploration, and typically rewards a heart container for dong so, I need to go out of my way to not pick it up and cripple myself for the game to present a challenge? I hope not. I did that back in Twilight Princess on a second run, and the hardest thing about it was not accidentally getting 5 heart pieces from chests.
Then only ignore the heart containers dropped by bosses so your life meter increases at a slower rate. It doesn't look like this game is going to have less containers than the others. (Though we do know that enemies deal more damage than any 3D Zelda.)

I really do believe a big problem with this game in general is how little is really known about it. It doesn't help that it relies heavily on Wii controls, which could be a big turn off to some people.

This is probably my biggest problem too. It is only the 5th 3D Zelda game ever (which are nowhere near as similar as people claim) and people want it to basically turn into another game completely. Every other franchise gets a pass despite putting out more games in a much shorter period of time.

You mean every other franchise that isn't from Nintendo gets a pass. Been a common occurrence for a while now.

My only concern is how it will look on Dolphin. I hope it looks great like Mario Galaxy.

A GameStop employee recently told me that SS would have a weapon upgrading system. My ears perked a bit at the news, but then I came to my senses and realized that the statement was probably just a clever ploy to make me preorder.

Do I have to quote myself?

It does, anyway. Unless this post was a clever ploy to make a 13-year old pissed off.

No its true. But we dont know the extent of this system. What applies to it and how many levels each item has.

He was telling the truth. In the E3 demo, you could actually get an upgraded beetle. It doesn't seem to have customization, but it also seems that some are optional.

He's right

You can upgrade everything except for the sword, which I presume you have to forge into the Master Sword throughout the game according to interviews.

My irrational level of hype/anti-hype is actually pretty strong this go around. I have no idea why as I'm not a fan of motion controls and I hated Twilight Princess.

Maybe I feel like it has nowhere to go but up.

Another terrible thread. GAF you are disappointing me lately.

Considering we haven't seen much of SS I don't know how some of you are coming up with your opinions.

Dusty Wii syndrome.

I think that's his point...

Nintendo has done a terrible job at getting people excited for the game and or hyping it up. Scattered details here and there with only one dungeon shown to the public.

I'm not really hyped about it, but then again I haven't been hyped for a Zelda game since Wind Waker.

I always get the main console ones day one though and enjoy them.

I wish they would revise the antiquated heart container system. They should make them equippable instead of permanent fixtures. Ignoring the post-boss heart containers is easy, but collecting pieces of heart is part of the game.

Notice how he said "some of you". Probably referring to the people who are calling it OoT all over again and the like.

You have a point on one hand, but on the other hand, TP was hyped-up too much and that's part of why it was a disappointment.

I'm super excited for this zelda in particular. I can't wait to experience the all new sky environment. not to mention Swing my controller and have link do exactly what I'm doing.

It's gonna be great!

I think it's going to be pretty awesome, but I'm not hyped for it. I actually still haven't played much of TP(for a few reasons). I just wish they didn't poop out handheld Zelda games like they do.

They need to go back to making it a one and done franchise for each platform.

The lack of hype for SS has to do with people being ready for Zelda to move in a new direction. SS looks like more of the same shit fans have been doing since LttP. *yawn*

Another person that hasn't bothered looking up anything about the game. This is getting annoying.

I think to what extent the deviation from the LttP formula will completely determine whether people will be satisfied with it "being different enough". Personally just going off what I've seen/read I'd be in favor of a far more drastic reinvention.

Yep. Their trailers have sucked so far as well. Twilight Princess had the extremely memorable trailer with the Conan music. Skyward Sword, not so much.

I've been pretty un-hyped for this game since announcement.... but I think I'm ready for a new Zelda again as long as it does change it up a bit.

I guess 5 years has been enough time to wash away the super-boring taste of Twilight Princess :P

The game is based around motion-control mechanics which many people have come to reject at this point.

If they just made a sensible, traditionally controlled Zelda, no one would hold it against them.

I blame Nintendo for failing to inform gamers about Skyward Sword.

So because Nintendo hasn't informed them, it's okay for people to try to state their uneducated opinions as if they were fact.

Plenty of people know whats going when it comes to this game but they're actually interested in SS unlike the majority who have posted in this thread.

I think realistically the biggest looming cloud over SS will be the reliability/use of/accuracy of the motion controls. To me and to lots of critics they'll either make or break the game. Nintendo has yet to prove it's motion controls idea as a competent and worthwhile control method in a "hardcore game", if SS doesn't do it perfectly and blow the roof off of everything in that regard...in a way it'll be a huge failure.

"Opt-out heart containers" is a pretty shitty difficulty system that doesn't really make the game hard enough. In the case of 3D Zelda games, a good difficulty setting would take more effort than a change to the player's health.

I think Nintendo just does a poor job surrounding the game with some hype. It's just kinda there and coming out I guess.
It's gone the exact same way all Nintendo games have been marketed since 2007. There are a few small details and we have the general idea behind the game. Gaf's reaction is " Meh, it'll probably be good/bad. I'm not really hyped seems like the same old.". Then a month or two prior to the game releasing Nintendo has a media blowout and reveals tons of new info and GAF's reaction is "I need this game now!! So hyped!!". Nintendo has done the same strategy and GAF has almost always reacted the same way for every major title Nintendo has released after TP.

Big fat no on the Wiimote superior to dual analogs. Crazy talk. Maybe for some but for me it is a nightmare trying to control a first person game by pointing the wiimote at the TV.
Pointer controls are undeniably superior whether you can adjust to them or not. Much like a mouse, they allow for speed and precision impossible with analog sticks.

Trust me. It will be heavenly. I mean it's Nintendo's only Zelda game made from the ground up for Wii, and it's made very very late in the generation, they know this console inside and out by now, and Zelda will be Nintendo's final AAA contribution for the console before shifting to Wii U. Don't miss out on this! I for one will be there day one! :)
This.
