Anyone else not really stoked on Skyward Sword?

You'd be right because a lot of games are rehashes.

I love the Zelda games, but let's not pretend that they don't take a very robust and legendary formula and exploit it. This is why all those Zelda timeline arguments were funny to me. Here we are trying to determine the deep and complex time traveling and paradox clashing story of the Zelda games when in actuality they are selling us the same game every couple of years.

I love Nintendo.

Not going to lie, thought the same thing.

Good. If gamers would finally become a lot more critical, maybe this whole sequelitis that's ruining the industry may come to an end.

Gamers are very critical in general. The problem is that many lack self-control with their wallet.

I think the problem is that we have many people who know they are buying rehash or mainstream trash for $60 on day one, but disregard groundbreaking, genre-bending titles (indie or not) until they are $5 on Steam.

My hype is on Xenoblade right now, but I'm very intrigued in Skyward Sword.

Still, I bet I'll be hyped like a guy winning a billion on release, typical me. :)

But that's the thing. I don't see them as rehashes. The Uncharteds, God Of Wars, Resident Evils, etc. Have all had worthwhile installments and I just don't see them as the "same thing over and over again".

I honestly don't understand why it's just with Zelda that this argument is being brought up. And no, it isn't because it's an old franchise. This complaint existed as early as 2003 and I never understood why.

People want new experiences! Like a new Call of Duty!
*rolls eyes*

There's a big valley between a rehash and an evolutionary sequel.

Games like Zelda and Uncharted are very much sequels that change up things enough that make the game in every aspect a new experience.

If you want a completely different game that is nothing like the original, then play a "new" IP.

At threat title: NO, definitely not.

From what I've already seen from the Skyward Sword, I LOVE it! I'm sure it's gonna be polished as hell, with lots of new ideas and utilize every bit of the Wii's power.

I'm soooo gonna buy this! Golden Wiimote? Hell yes!

For whatever reason, I'm rarely ever hyped for a new Zelda game. The only one I can think of that really got me excited pre-release was The Wind Waker because I was so floored by the amazing visual style (which probably also began my hatred of internet video game fans as they all cried for man Link with the dark and emo and mature).

Now, mind you, once I've got my hands on a Zelda game, I become obsessed with it as I'm playing it.

After playing and being bored by Twilight Princess and not completing it, no I'm not really excited for Skyward Sword maybe that will change closer to launch.

No one wants a new IP. Everyone just wants to play the same games they always have and bitch about how nothing ever changes. And if something actually does change they will bitch about that too because the changes "ruined what made the old games special" or something.

Basically people just like the bitch.

"It's not supposed to be the same, but would it kill them not to make it less different? I mean Jesus Christ guys, it's not that hard. Just make it exactly how I describe it and everything will turn out great."

I'm not that hyped, but I like what I see.And I know that I will play through this game multiple times, because that's what I did with every single 3D-zelda.Finished Twilight Princess at least 4 times.

I now somehow want Nintendo to release a classic 2D-Zelda just so I can say that it is another rehash of Zelda I.

Resident Evil was a really tired genre before they made RE4; I was hyped for RE5, but after playing that I sure hope they shake it up for RE6, because if it even looks like more of the same I'm definitely not stoked for that either.
It's not just with Zelda.

I'm fucking bored of Zelda.

Never thought I'd say it but I am. Nintendo have held it back for the last 10 years. LttP, Links Awakening, OoT, all awesome but bar MM, none of them have done anything special at all.

Wind Waker could have been awesome but it felt like Nintendo was holding back. It never got warmed up and felt like shitload was missing in every respect. Dungeons felt unfinished, the world felt unfinished, the towns felt unfinished.

I'd love a WW directors cut.

Twilight Princess felt massive but felt like OoT too much.

New ideas please. I would love a 3D remake of LttP and/or Links Awakening. If we're not going to move the series forward, I'd at least like to enjoy it!

TP definitely was NOT a new experience in every aspect. The most important stuff of the game, exploring the world, was almost exactly the same as in OoT (only in another order which made it less well paced)

Zelda is one of my top 3 franchises ever, but the formula is stale now. i haven't even finished twilight princess yet! nintendo needs to drastically change the formula/ characters/ gameplay and evolve the series, instead of just refining the graphics and adding useless items.

I'm actually more hyped for Xenoblade than for Zelda. But I'll still enjoy the game, you can't go wrong with the traditional goodness. I have the feeling that it still will be *too* traditional, though.

change the formula? that would, like, make it a racing game or something!

Er... which series are you playing again?

You can fault Zelda for a lot of things, but just "refining the graphics and adding useless items" is not one of them.
Each Zelda plays differently from the previous, looks different, has completely different themes and characters...

I wish that the zelda development team would incorporate a intricate town with many things to do.

Maybe a mix of Ordon Village,Windfall island and Clock town with more shops,NPC schedules, fleshed out areas and other things like that.

Sequelitis isn't ruining the industry. Gamers just love to bitch no matter what. As far as I'm concerned, I want more of what I like, and no, "just play [insert latest iteration] again" isn't gonna cut it and you know it.

Also this thread feels like whatever good news we've had about the game a few months ago never happened and we're back to square one, wtf. What is this, a time warp?

You mean Skyloft.

And no, it's not one city, it's multiple cities and islands in the sky.

It's funny, but when RE4 came out I was pissed that they named it after the RE series, not that it wasn't an excellent game, but because I knew they will never go back to the original root, and I was right.

Sometimes I think people forget what a gimmick is and use it to describe anything they don't like.

And can you please be the first person to explain why this game is a rehash?

He will just give an obscure reason such as "it uses the same formula".

I've seen it one too many times.

I'm guessing it goes something like this:

Jvyxy.jpg

New features I like = Innovation
New features I dislike = Gimmicks

I'm not tired of Zelda, nor am I tired of the formula. But generally trailers tend to get you excited to play a game. I just didn't see anything in the Zelda SS footage that looked exciting, or interesting. There was no wow factor.
It just looks bland, and if it didn't have the Zelda name attatched I'm sure a lot less people would be interested in it.

I honestly havent been paying much attention to it and I am a avid fan of Zelda games (although I enjoyed the 2d ones better). Hopefully the fact I am not getting hyped will help me enjoy it more.

I will be honest though from looking at the screens and trailers.. it has not really sparked anything in me. I keep thinking how I would love to see it in HD. :/

As far as I'm concerned, I like being surprised with creative ideas. So yeah sequelitis is ruining the industry.

i'm not faulting anything. i love my Zelda games but there is no denying that most of them play the same exact way. same boss strategies, same dungeon formats, same treasures, mostly the same items. it's been that way since ocarina. as much as i love playing them, i just feel like a change is needed. i actually really liked phantom hourglass because it switched it up a bit. i can't comment on spirit tracks since i haven't played it yet.

I've seen the videos. The trailers look amazing. Love the graphical style but the game seems more of the same. This time instead of a boat and sailing to Islands, you have birds and you fly there with added motion controls.

The fighting engine is the same but with enforced motion controls. I'm one of those that bought TP on the GC instead of Wii. Nintendo won't win me over. Motion controls forced me to play NSMBWii with a Wiimote. I'll never forgive them.

I want to like it but I've been burned too much by Zelda. TP and WW have burned me off Zelda.

Don't get me wrong, I'm buying this day one but that doesn't mean I condone motion controls!

I was off put ever since the reveal of the game where they forced the waggle. Is it optional? Can a classic controller be used?

That, plus I haven't truly enjoyed a zelda game since wind waker. Still haven't bothered to finish TP, Hourglass was horrible, didn't even try spirit track since hourglass left such a horrible taste in my mouth.

So yes, i'm not really stoked either. But I'm not sure if that's because I've become a jaded gamer, or if it's the game itself. I'd imagine it's a mixture of the two. The repetitiveness of the series, plus the gimmicky controls (both DS and Wii) didn't help.

Despite every single report saying the controls work wonderfully?
These aren't like TP's controls. Not even close.

What do you mean by waggle? Do you think the controls are like TP?
