Anyone else not really stoked on Skyward Sword?

Hollywood Duo said:
Yeah because your gloating over one semi negative review makes you seem totally unbiased.

All I wanted out of this was vindication that Skyward Sword was not gonna be some huge changeup to the Zelda series. Just like its 3D predecessors its marred with a boring overworld, and lots of padding, most of which comes in the form of hide and seek. If you're into that sort of thing, fine - great, even. I don't care. I just wanted to make my I told you so to everyone who said different.

Glad you found your vindication. It must feel super awesome.

Regardless of whether or not your claim is valid, you're a massive tool.

Does it really matter? I mean I don't care one bit about Zelda anymore but you don't see me bragging about 1 meh score for the game. Just ignore it. Hell there's days where I even forget the game's supposed to be out soon.

In doing so, you make yourself look like a jackass. There's been discussions over that review and the quality of skyward sword for days in the appropriate threads. You just singled yourself out as a troll.

I think people are mostly taking issue with the fact that you could have said this in the reviews thread while quoting the post you made in this thread to go alongside your viewpoints... rather than single your viewpoint out by bumping this older thread.

So I am taking it that all the other guys saying the opposite is irrelevant since they don't agree with your preconceived notion?

Alright, this guy is a complete Zelda troll.

First bad Zelda game I ever played (the second would be Wind Waker). I remember going back to that game when I was older thinking that as a child I simply wasn't capable of appreciating the game's off color design, boy was I wrong.

Its understandable if you weren't into any of the last 5 Zeldas.

Boring Overworld? Check
Segregated Areas? Check
Lock On Controls? Check

Its the same game they've been releasing for the past decade, but with a slightly prettier art style. I think you'd have to be pretty into Zelda lore to be hyped for this game.

It's totally cool if you don't like a game. Everyone has their opinions, but if you just go around saying HAHA I told you so!!! because the game got one bad review, then that's not cool.

Yeah bumping the thread may have had some relevance if it was the 1st review, but waiting until the last major review is pretty pointless.

I've noticed that people with Sonic avatars have been decidedly aggressive lately. I don't think we should deride this guy. I think we should celebrate that he's temporarily got his balls back, at least until Sega once more fades into obscurity. :(

This is the appropriate thread. People wanted reasons for why they weren't feeling hyped for Zelda. I posted some (legitimate) concerns and got flamed for it - no, I was accused of trolling the thread rather. There are still people out there not feeling this game and hey, this might be why. I don't care about the review score, or whether or not the reviewer liked it. What I do care about is the inarguable fact that Skyward Sword follows a pattern similar to the last ten(?) games before it.

Yeah, the vast majority liking it alot.

With select few not liking it.

As what happens with pretty much every quality game ever made.

I may have replied in this thread previously, as at one point I wasn't excited about the game.
Since then I've become more excited to play the game, and as someone who moaned and groaned about Zelda needing to change, I'm happy to see it happening.

Is that not what this messageboard is about? A place for the select few to air their grievances? I'm trying to provide an answer to those select few and you accuse me of trolling. How quaint.

Like I said, it's okay that you have legit concerns and to express them, but have you actually played the game to completion or at all?

The only Zelda game I like is Wind Waker. I'm not a fan. I really need to import Xenoblade because besides Kirby (eh...) and Rayman there's nothing new on Wii I want.

I don't think you understand the meaning of inarguable, otherwise why did you wait so long to bump the thread?

Because the game is now out, thus making it inarguable? It could've changed while it was still in development, it didn't.

Cool_dude, those statements do not contradict each other

So you've added nothing to the conversation, bumped a thread months old for what exactly? To troll by cherry picking one review to some statement you claimed to have made earlier? What about all the other reviews? Why wait until this one?

the best sonic games follow the same patterns and strictly adhere to the same conventions. what's your point?

Zelda overworlds are janky disjointed shit that people overlook because Zelda games are mainly about the puzzles. Never have I ever looked at a 3D Zelda overworld and thought, "yea, I could see this working in real life". It fails as a puzzle and as a realistic setting. fuck 3D Zelda overworlds.

Personally, I think the truth is going to end up being close to this:

1. The game is, in fact, changed up a fair degree without trying to merely do the stupid thing of copying Trendy Western Game X.

2. It will not, however, create some magical feeling of o/~ a whole new woooorld o/~ for the sizable minority of gamers who are morbidly, obsessively, cynical about Nintendo and predisposed to sour their experience with every new game.

I believe you can tell Zelda fans have the disease worse than anyone else, because even general Nintendo hardcore can applaud a game like Mario Galaxy, which despite its many design innovations, is not some "reinvention" of its franchise. Yet the vast majority of folks can appreciate that for a series to present a fresh take on its tropes, it doesn't have to entirely change what it is; in a misguided plea to appease the jaded and bored.

It's like the primary goal of Zelda fans is no longer playing Zelda games. They're more interested in judging them to figure out how the next one is a failure, and the race to the bottom to discover the very first thing that in some way irks them so that they can confirm the game is incompetently made.

F yeah. I'm not all blowing my pants off for Skyward Sword myself, but I'm sure enough that it'll be fun to the point where I won't regret my preorder/plunking down the dough for the title. It's like the mac and cheese my Ma used to make me when I was a kid...the recipe hasn't deviated an inch, and I still love it. Different strokes for different folks.

If the next Zelda game was a futuristic racer, there would be someone complaining because there's some dude dressed in green in it.

I am pretty sure bumps for crow-eating, even on far better foundations than this, aren't looked highly upon.
From what I see, they are tolerated if the crow-eating is legendary.
In this case, it looks like legendary backfire.

You're saying you're not trolling but you waited for the review with worst score before deciding to bump this thread, while ignoring all the other reviews giving the game 9s and 10s.

If that's not trolling, i don't know what it is.

It's still Mac & Cheese, but it has a few new ingredients in it.

soon someone will tell us that Netherealm's secret project is Mortal Kombat fighting Sesame Street Fighter

in a year's time, it will be real

And even then, it's still worth a shot. If the zeitgeist was like "It's macaroni and cheese only this time they took a shit in it and called it chocomac and cheese" then yeah, I'd be a bit more hesitant. Since it's more along the lines of "It's macaroni and cheese with some (insert something that goes well with mac and cheese here) added" I'm still looking forward to it. Dunno if there's a midnight launch but if there is, I'm there.

I do need to hook up my Wii, though. Been collecting dust for too long.
