Anyone else think Infamous: Second Son's hero looks like a dickbag?

Getting real tired of people hating on characters for looking attractive and/or cool.

I care much more about a character's character than what they look like, and so far this protagonist seems more interesting than 90% of the characters out there.

I think thats the angle they were going for? PS You look like a bag... of dicks or something.

I'm just glad he isn't a 350lb space marine wearing clunky armor carry space machine guns.

No, one of my favorite new character designs in awhile actually.

They should have gone the Spiderman (hero having fun with his powers) way instead. This guy is just being a dick with his super powers. Game still looks a ton of fun though!
Spider-Man is boring, let the inner jackass flow I say. God help you all if I had superpowers.

He's fine. I'll decide how good or bad his character is while playing the game. Even if you choose to judge a book by its cover, you must know that looks can be deceiving, yeah? Give the game a chance.

Seriously i don't get it. During the e3 trailer or the demo the main character didn't say one bad word. Now compare him to dante, and i still enjoyed the new dmc. But yeah, more generic ass characters that don't look like "dickbags" right op?

This. And the facts that he's Troy Baker makes everything about him awesome!

This. Looks good and I love the fact that he's got a lot of personality and expression to go with those cool powers.

Having Travis Willingham voice his brother doubles the awesome.

Yeah having powers at a young age will give you god complex. You'd feel untouchable, it'll take a lot to bring you down to size. You probably wouldn't care about being honest, and you will tend to see what you can get away with doing. Especially if you can pretty much semi teleport, pass around things as a smoke entity, and fly. This guy has a reason to be cocky.

Flame On!

I honestly don't get this. It's something I've never been able to understand, as a gamer, about other gamers. Everyone hates every protagonist in every game ever, or so it feels on GAF. I honestly can't recall any characters I've actively hated or hated playing as. It just doesn't affect me on that level, usually because most VG characters are paper thin excuses for anything that resembles a human being. They are merely avatars and this medium hasn't matured enough to give us real characters, even after 40 years.

Is there ANY character in the history of games that a majority of gamers can agree is likable? Maybe Mario and Gordon Freeman? Notice how those two are more character model than actual character?

EDIT: And the game looks fucking sweet. The game! The part with the gameplay.

Ezio Auditore? But I've come to a point where I don't even know what the term likable means anymore when applied to video game characters. Their are numerous examples of flawed or unlikable characters in other mediums like film or novels, but it's their depth that makes them good characters. I'm guessing because videogames are interactive that players want to relate or personify with a character they deem likable or perfect because protagonists are an extension of the player. And to use Ezio as an example people like him because he's living an idolized Renaissance lifestyle, gets women, is adventurous, and doesn't really have any character flaws. He's the kind of character we all can kind of aspire to be. On the other end of the spectrum Connor is a Native American who's family and people have been in danger, he's cold, distant, and receptive, and is inherently less likeable than Ezio because of the environment he's been placed in and many people resented him for that.

The sttitude displayed in the trailers makes this character seem like a teenage male wish fulfillment fantasy. I bet he plays the electric guitar and skateboards too between bouts of living by no one's rules but his own, saving the world, disobeying authority and having superhuman powers.

That being said, a lt of games are; this one's just more obvious.

I wish at times like these that Sony made really good platformers too. Nintendo needs to be given a run for its money, and Sony is the only one who can do it. It'd expand the audience as a lot of people don't like the hyperviolence of most games.

Jesus christ every thread title is starting to sound like a reddit post, this is not interesting discussion and it can negatively influence development. The whole backlash after the reveal of the infamous 2 protagonist turned out to be way overblown and many people I know would've actually preferred that design over the one they had to go with over threads like this.

"this character looks like they made him just to look cool"

" so they did their job, and that is what they do with most characters"

" no they did it for just this one so they could get more people to buy the game,"

" so they did the thing they did with everyone and did their job"

Not really. A basic human male form, with maybe a mischievous facial expression sometimes?

Your feelings on this are probably rooted in your own self image.

Maybe the reason of this kind of threads is because is a Superhero game? I mean, there are many infamous (he) Internet disscusions and rage because the introduction of 'douche' characters in superheroe teams...

I think Tony Soprano is a dickbag

in unrelated news, The Sopranos is a great show

in other words he can be a dickbag as long as he's an interesting dickbag

I dunno. He looked happy. I like characters that are happy and enjoying themselves over characters that aren't.

The latter has dominated gaming over the last six years, let's move back to the former.

Delsin is a 24-year-old who believes that he is destined for greatness. Being a street artist, his incontainable free expression sets a perfect background for his standoff with the DUP.
Yup, I'm pretty sure he's meant to be a douche.

par for the course from sucker punch. both coles were the worst character designs of last generation (although his initial look for 2 was ok)

surely that's on sucker punch for having no artistic integrity and completely caving. people should be able to discuss how they feel without worrying how it will influence development

People said the same thing about new Dante. He was douchey at the start, but then developed as a character as the game progressed.

Gamers seem to have a problem with attractive protagonist who don't have 400 pounds of muscle. How someone dresses doesn't define them either.

No because I judge people by their actions not how they look, like reasonable human being. I hate new dante because his game is dumb and he has no character, not because i dislike his face.
He apparently derives pleasure from killing people doing their job. He looks pretty happy in that gif.

If by dickbag you mean cocky then yes.

But if I remember this guy was cocky too and we all ended up liking him.

Who is this young lady?

"You seem to be...getting the hang of your symptoms"

"Right? Course the only downside is...nope, cant think of anything, THIS IS PRETTY AWESOME!"

He comes off as a total douche. I like that. Not every main character has to have a likable face or a thing I can identify with. It can be fun to try and get into the mindset of someone I want to punch.

I'd like to think so too but the way you see rabid fans fans going on twitter demanding heads nowadays it would be naive to say community doesn't influence development; case in point: ME3's extended cut.

Yes but that's a good thing. To be honest, I'd rather have a character that's interesting and has character, even if I don't like them personally. It's not like you're being friends with them, it's a game!

People who suppress a minority and probably kill them too. That's like complaining about how WWII soldiers shot nazis (not that they necessarily enjoyed it, and I'm not sure if infamous:SS's main characters enjoys the killing, more the use of his powers).
