I will probably buy some slightly nicer stuff for Titanfall in March. Like $300 or $400 worth of low-end gpu, mobo, and cpu which would still end up being more than what I currently have. A fully fledged build is a loooooooooooong ways away though.
I originally preordered a PS4 when they were available back in June. But as time passed, I realized that there arenÂ’t really any launch games I want enough to drop $500+ for one. Kill Zone just isnÂ’t enough for me yet. So I cancelled my preorder and got a new R9 280x.
So for less money ($300) I now have a system that can play most of the other ‘big launch games’ such as Ghosts, BF4, AC4, 2K14, with better performance than either PS4 or XB1. I should add I also have my PC hooked up to my TV for some comfy PC gaming. So that probably helps too.
I will definitely pick up a PS4 eventually, probably next summer / fall when some of the big exclusives come out and they have all the kinks and features added and worked out.
But a PC upgrade in lieu of a launch system pick up seems like a pretty wise and cost-effective alternative at this point with the current games available.
Just upgraded my card to a R290x and getting also PS4.
But had it been one or the other it would be the PS4. PS4 should last longer, and I would hold out on a GPU(if you plan on keeping the same card for years) for Maxwell.
Xone has the better launch line up for me, but piece of shit hardware for ÂŁ400 is never happening in a million years.
PS4 has acceptable hardware, but the games look lame as fuck.
PC cards are in a weird flux currently, ATi has beast chips but they're equipped with gak cooling solutions. the 780's need another price drop...and there's the ever looming shadow of 20nm next year.
Blue balls all around TBH.
I keep hearing that 20nm isn't happening next year.

There's always something better coming up. Never really a bad time to upgrade unless new GPU's are just around the corner.Shitty time to upgrade imo. DDR4 will be releasing any day now, you don't want the same RAM as them consoles do ya?
With prices and a budget in mind, the ideal time to revamp your pc will be about two years into the console generation. Aim for the newest chipset that comes out around that time and get a fast CPU for it. I'd get a mid-range GPU as this will be the only component you should ever need to upgrade for the following 6-8 years. The RAM situation might be tricky as far as price goes; hopefully 8gb sticks of DDR4 will be affordable.
I'm still rocking a $900 PC from 2008. Had to upgrade my GPU prematurely since the first one crapped out. Only mistake I made was starting with two sticks of 1gb DDR2, where I quickly added another two sticks but now my board is full and I could really go for 8 gigs right now heh. Definitely feeling the squeeze at 1080 these days but I don't mind dropping settings and there's a huge number of games I've yet to play.
