Anyone Feel Lonely In Single Player Games?

I don't mean the urge to play multiplayer games, but players like me that are playing GR: Breakpoint in single-player that require a few more A.I mates to help out like the prequel Wildlands?

Far Cry 5 was ok as I would have enough A.I help at times, but even though I'm early into Breakpoint I really do feel lonely.

Next-gen should require more A.I to be at a top level assistant levels in the next few years.

When it comes to gaming I'm really, really anti-social, I don't want anyone interfere with my gaming time. So you could say I embrace the "loneliness" and in all honestly I trust the A.I more than actual players to not ruin my gaming.

No, I want more single player focused games that i can conveniently pick up at any time without worrying if my friends can play or if they have the game at all.
Playing with irl friends is great but your schedules won't always be in sync and playing with randoms its just not the same

I suppose not, cuz in most of my Bethesda RPG playthroughs, I choose to go without a companion. In Skyrim I do like to end up with someone though, and Nick Valentine was fuckin awesome in Fallout 4. I'm sure I'd enjoy Hancock as a companion too.
But I could probably get lonely in a BioWare RPG, especially cuz commanding your team is a big part of the game.

Pretty much this. I'll play some co-op stuff with some close real-life friends, but that's it. Even then I tend to prefer as spend more time playing single-player stuff as gaming is my main "me time" where I relax and decompress and I generally would rather not be chatting even with close friends.

Is a mix of that, but at the same time I spend my time looking for games with offline co-op/splitscreen. Thank God I have some parents living next to me, so when I not playing story mode I rather play splitscreen with my brother.

Seriously do any of you read OP posts at all and always reply to titles? :pie_grinning_sweat:

OP clearly said AI mates. Not real mates.

These replies were still on point.
Playing large scale Ubisoft lootershooters without any real teammates sounds terrible.

those games (Recon, Division) aren't supposed to give you a tight, focused SP experience.

IMO recommending a different genre/type of game is solid advice here.

@OP: How bout a nice JRPG where your teammates are fully fleshed out characters that you can talk to?
Dragon Quest 11, Persona 5 and FF7 Remake maybe

Nah, I was the kind of person that played world of warcraft as a single player game, trying to find ways to beat encounters that are meant to be tackled by groups of people just by myself. I was only teaming up when absolutely necessary, like raid dungeons. So when I play an mmorpg solo, do you really think I want anyone in my single player game?

Not really, but they are few games, which almost require to play with someone else, because how empty they are. And yeah those games sucks. I remember playing Dead Island and feel like shit and also Nier 1 was terrible in this regard.

I understood the title, but not the post. Do AI team mates make a difference to real world loneliness? Or do you mean that because of game design oversight a game mode feels empty without the numbers it's designed for?

This is exactly what I want, being able to enjoy a game without anyone interfering, play at my own rhythm and stop when I want.

I actually feel alone in multiplayer games

I hated the AI on GR Wildlands, mostly enjoyed the DLC that had no AI's.

I close party when playing The Division 1-2 until I feel I finished all the main and side missions. If I forget to close the party and someone jump in I would usually kick him/her out.

Sometimes I end up playing in offline mode to avoid immersion breakers like invites.

I enjoy the most alone. MP is fun indeed, but nothing compares to playing single at the hardest difficulty possible.

On Far Cry I never use the AI or help from the gangs or so. Feels like cheating and makes it way too easy. One of the main things that made RDR2 shit to me is being extremely easy and horse running/galloping sim, I grew some muscles on my right thumb. GOW is the most satisfying game this gen, and quite punishing at Give me God of War difficulty at the beginning.

Definitely. There are times where I am playing a single player game and glance once or 20 times at my friends list to see if any of my guys are on playing literally anything. Not so much of an issue with COVID keeping everybody in the house.

Can't say that I do. I like it when games have good sidekicks (The Last of Us, God of War, Resident Evil 4 more or less), but I also quite like the isolation of being companionless.

Never. I love single player games.

I used to couch co-op with friends and family when I was younger (back in the C-64 and Amiga days, basically) but those have passed.

I'm really looking forward to Elder Scrolls 6, Dying Light 2, and Cyberpunk 2077. Large open worlds to explore, full of colourful characters ... It's some nice escapism from the real world.

Yes, which is why I prefer playing online. Ai feels stupidly idiotic, and its so easy to tell.

Don't feel lonely with single player. It is called SINGLE player for a reason. I don't want anyone else hinder my gaming experience, even if it means I am with a dumb A.I.

If I wanted someone in my game, I'd play Destiny or any other online shooter crap.

Well over 200 hours into AC Odyssey and I love messing with the enemy Ai. The things they say when they discover and kneel down next to one of their dead pals crack me up.

"I'll tell your family you fought well"
"Why did it have to be you brother"
"Hmm must be the work of a misthios"
"By Zeus I'll get revenge"
"You were always so good to me"

There are quite a few more, I'll hide in a nearby bush and whistle after they've said their piece and they'll start saying things like

"Grrr I hate that noise"
"It's probably nothing but I better check it out"
"I'll make sure you stop whistling!"

Classic Ubisoft.

Not unless the feeling of isolation is an intrinsic part of a game's design (which can be a game's point - See Resident Evil, Alien Breed, Ico, etc.).

SP games are my fav and I don';t play mp games at all.
But last year was special. together with my long time buddy (we are both 30yo) we out of nowhere started playing local coop couch games!
We finished all Gears of war, all edf, all coop resident evils, lost planet2, broforce, crimsonland, chaosbane
We had a lot of fun! And for this year we wanted to start with playing all halo games on original 360 console.... (we like vanilla pain of low fps, edf2017 was great) but the pandemic got here first ;/

No. Even in Co-op games.

My friends ALWAYS skip all cinematics and all dialogues. It's frustrating. I don't feel lonely at all. I enjoy playing games at my own pace.

Quite the opposite. Many sidekicks or team members in SP games talk too much, I always try to get rid of them if the game allows it.
