Anyone going to import Dragon Quest Builders?

Had fun with the demo until I got stuck. I couldn't figure out the objective when you are given the ability to create pots. This might not be import friendly enough for me but objectives in Minecraft is something I can appreciate.

Played the demo until I
rescued the second person
, but this game needs more Japanese skill than I thought it did, as I got stuck not long thereafter. It is really interesting to play, so I hope that they do localize the game.

The character creator had more options than I thought it would, so that was very nice.

Wait was it possible to change things like eyes, hairstyles, etc? All I thought it could do was male/female and colour variations.

No, for some reason I thought we would have 3-5 options at most for the colors. But yeah, the only options were Male/Female, Hair Color, Skin Color, and Eye Color (which is a bit off on the character, it looks a lot darker than the exact same shade in the Hair Color to me).

I wonder if full version will have larger palette options than that...

If you get stuck, I think you can force (port) your self back to the base by using the "escape" feature.

Open the menu by pressing the circle button,
select "システム" at the lower right hand corner within the menu,
then select "脱出する". Select "はい (yes)" to confirm.
But be warned, you'll lose some of your items when using this feature.

Sorry, stuck as in I don't know what to do on this quest. It mentions pots and beds but putting those inside every building and even a new building doesn't seem to complete it. Thank you though.

ah ok, i miss understood your post sorry.
I'm still doing the tutorial and just finished making 2 straw beds (わらヘッド).
You have to collect 3 strong grasses (じょうぶな草) to create one bed.
I'm not sure about the pots though. I guess I haven't reached that point.

You get the pot recipe from the second villager you rescue. I've made a ton of pots and beds and have placed them anywhere but still can't fulfill his quest. haha

I really like the look of the game. Is there a first person mode? Place blocks in 3rd person mode can be a tad wonky.

More like 笑ベッド

Tutorial is kind of boring but the game looks nice at least.

My friend was saying there wasn't first person mode.
He also mentioned that putting roofs on buildings made it hard to look around, so he avoided putting roofs on all of his buildings.

Put enough pots in rooms to raise the camp to level 2. They have to be in rooms, not just placed around the camp.

One useful thing I found out that wasn't in the tutorial: while L1 and R1 target above/below you, holding them both keeps the target in front of you. Then you can hold triangle and move around to repeatedly place a single block directly ahead.

As for the quest you are stuck on, I "won" it by making a building exactly the same as the first one, 2 Straw Bed, 1 Torch, a Door, and then put 6 Brown Pots along the back wall (the wall you face when you enter through the door), which did get me to level 2. The NPC guy won't come to you when you finish this one, maybe? (It was night in my game so he was asleep.) But after that I got stuck again, there is something about a mountain? (yama kanji is involved?) and a hammer, but I can't figure out what to do on this one yet.

I went to a poison swamp with scary big purple trees and annoying orange ghosts, so that was fun.

I've been messing with the various buttons/combinations but there does not seem to be a 1st person mode.

I really hope I can use my demo save-game for the release version. Don't want to play that tutorial again ~_~

Unfortunately, you can't use the save file you made with the demo...

I think I've finally reached the quest which bender was talking about.

And yes, just like other people above are saying,
the goal is to reach camp level 2. (yellow gauge under your HP bar)
Build rooms, place pots and beds etc in rooms to raise your camp level.

I downloaded the demo from the Hong Kong store. Is there no language options at all for the release? I thought with it popping up in people's anticipated game lists it would at least have English text, or is there more Japanese speakers then I thought on GAF?

Game seems really good, from the little I've played.

only japanese.

Nah, I'll wait for the English localisation. Hopefully it's out by October.

do you have information that we don't have o.o because so far I thought there was nothing announced yet

That + people assuming it will be rather playable even if you can't understand much.

Put in 3 hours and got hooked. As I suspected this game isn't meant to have roofs on buildings. The camera just cant handle it, I have yet to find a first person camera option.

Placing blocks also isn't as easy as in Minecraft but the L1 and R2 height snap feature make it manageable.

Graphics are crisp on PS4, clean lines and lighting effects everywhere. Lack of multiplayer is going to be a huge detriment to the life of the game. Exploring the demo world is so much fun and would be much better with other players.

Maybe it will be patched in.

Place enough of them in empty rooms to raise your camp level to 2. An empty room is a room with 2 block high walls, a door and some light.

I found it really boring, but that isn't unexpected. I don't like building games, and the DQisms aren't enough to save it for me.

Yeah its a bit stupid they didnt put in a first person view. Though the best thing you have is to mess with the camera a bit so that it goes behind the character when you do lose your mind and make rooms with ceilings. I went and did that testing out the AI to see if it adventures upwards to the other rooms which it does. When you go inside a covered building the camera can switch behind the player so you see a really close up third person, but as you said most def the game isnt really designed to do that, since its you having to force the camera to go to that angle instead of the usual top down.

Seriously if square was going to copy minecraft they just should have gone all in and added first person view too. As that is the view the minecraft crowd is used to generally, which is obviously who they are trying to target, since due to the lack of "RPG" features not too sure if DQ fans are really going to be into this as much.

My main concern was most def founded as the camera and general design with building is a bit limited due to that.

Town is already stupid looking with all the building Ive been doing. But since data cant be transferred over figured Id stop till the full version comes out.

Still with camera issues aside should be fun regardless.

I'm currently at the quest where an NPC is talking about building a two-sided hammer, but I'm not sure how I'm supposed to do that. Any ideas?

You cant. Thats where the demo ends. Since it requires you to go through the portal you build from the tablet fragment or whatever it was called. Attempting to go through the portal will give you a message that the demo ends here then takes you back to the original world.

Gotcha. Thanks.

Oh, wow! I thought I was missing something, I guess I finished the Demo, too. Yay!

yeah the final task basically is to lay down that portal which you found from after the monster attack on the town. so basically once you did that you can consider yourself done with the demo progress events.

After playing the demo, I gotta say. It is definitely not what I expected. I was expecting a minecraft style Dragon Quest game, but it's barely like minecraft at all. It's a lot more interesting.

I'm definitely getting it if it comes to America and might get it still anyway

I am importing. All of the gameplay I have seen is so interesting. Seems like a unique take on the building genre. Mixing an RPG and that just adds a new layer of customization I have always wanted in a game.

Plus I gotta practice Japanese!

Since your character doesnt gain exp from killing things its not exactly mixing in RPG mechanics. Though how you do level is by the things you build in town. Though its more like you get overall points that go towards the level of your settlement meter which raises or lowers depending on what you place / remove from it. (within completed areas or conditions met).

It would be good for people to know that right from the start so they do not go expecting an action rpg system in the sense that you gain levels by fighting and whatnots.

Advancement with what you can build seems to be mostly quest related with the requests by the npcs. though wonder if later in the game they will have a system allowing for crafting of materials by experimentation. otherwise its just going through the quests to obtain gated off resources.

I appreciate everyone's help getting me past my language barrier. Thank you!

Just an aside but you might want to check out CubeWorld.

When you're indoors with a roof, click in R3 and move the camera a little to enter first person. It'll stay locked into first person until you leave the house.

Demo was great. It has a lot of text though and I read Japanese pretty slow so I'll be holding out for a localization.

How is it on the Vita? From the vids I've seen I don't know if the screen is big enough.

Works fine on the vita, though considering the camera angle when building things Id rather be doing it on a console.

Got my town lv to 4 now.

Have a whole 2nd level of rooms above the first lol

Hmm yeah that's my main concern since I would prefer to get this on the Vita (if it gets localized).

The camera isnt customizable either in the sense that for the most part asides from rotating it around you cant control the zoom, so its up to you if you dont mind that. Vs on a big screen where at least its not as bad just due to the screen size.
