Anyone one else taking a break from Bloodborne to play Dark Souls 2?

Considering I already platinumed Dark Souls 2 on PS3 and PC I think I can hold of until say after I am done with Bloodborne and then The Witcher 3.

Don't think many hate it. It's just the language that muddies it up. Some say "worst Souls game" which is just another way of saying "least favorite Souls game."

I suppose that is the case for many. I don't know, it just felt like an absolute content-packed Souls game to me, but with it's own distinct vibe and atmosphere that I love just as much as Demon's and Dark Souls 1. There really is not a 'least favorite' one for me. *shrugs*

I'm taking a break from Bloodborne to play Dark Souls 1.
All it's doing is making me miss Bloodborne terribly or consider doing a new playthrough of Demon's Souls instead.
I'd probably take a break from taking a break from Bloodborne to play Dark Souls 1, to check out what Dark Souls 2 is all about if someone threw a copy at me, but otherwise, nah.

Actually yes.

Blood borne is good, but I miss so many things. I can't cast magic, there are no really different builds. Where are the Colours? I had more fun playing DS2 in the last 5 hours then in Bloodborne the last week!

I completed Dark Souls 2 last summer on PS3 and although it is a very good game, it was massively disappointing for me. I've just beaten the 4th boss in Bloodborne and it has me hooked akin to how Demon's and Dark Souls did.

I'll definitely buy DS2 on PS4 just so I can play the DLC as that is apparently an improvement on the base game. Also 60 fps will be nice.

You have to understand that for many people, the Souls series has been primarily about single player content first and foremost. Souls 2 excels in PVP and what not. But in comparison with Souls 1, Demon and now BB (the general consensus, feel free to disagree with it) is that its level and world design is lacking. It's still a great game and I doubt many people actually hate it, but its criticisms are not unfounded.

Yeah nope. I can't go back to DS2. It was a game I already didn't particularly like and now it will be insufferable in BB's shadow.

LOL right. Downgrade as in more difficult and offering a ton of different play styles versus BB, maybe.

More difficult? Are you playing it with your feet? I can't think of one boss in DS2 that gave me one issue on my solo run. Oh wait I take that back the skeleton rolling guys when your fighting the King Skeletons or whatever their cheap BS and ridiculous hitboxes were a pain in the ass.

And having worse combat, worse bosses and worse music and worse hitboxes. But I guess some people enjoy boring mage builds spamming spells from a distance. DS2 is fine on its own but compared to BB it is not that good. Coming from BB to DS2 is going to be rough as hell.

Yeah I'll be picking it up to replay. Bloodborne is just too limiting in play styles. It's not fun to be pigeon holed like they make you.

Also Bloodborne lacks any sense of exploration or discovery. Found a sweet chest off the beaten path...! Oh it's bullets... Thanks.

That's subjective. There are some things that I feel Bloodbourne does much much better than Dark Souls 2, but there are some things that I feel it does so much worse. And there are some things in which they are bad for completely opposite reasons.

And while, yes, controlling your character even at the fastest speed in Dark souls 2 is slower than the locked on quick step in bloodbourne, only about 2 of the bosses in Bloodbourne are faster than the bosses in Dark Souls 2.

And ?!

Yup, they do unfortunately. I actually did a mage build my second time through that game but gave up about halfway through. What a bore

My plan is to finish BB, then go back to Dragon Age which I never got very far in, then DS2 on PS4 when the price drops.

Hahaha, that got a good chuckle out of me.

So you decide to cheese your way through the game and use that as a metric? Right.

Yeah I still dont see the appeal of a mage build, It sucks so bad. It is anthithesis to what made souls combat great. It has been sucking since Demon Souls. I still remember the tough time I had with flamelurker using melee and the fight was so satisfying but with the mage build I kept spamming magic and backing away and the fight was over. I am looking forward to Souls 3 because I cant go back to this slow paced combat unless it is a new game with a new environment.

No. Using magic is inherently cheesing. There is no non cheesing way to use ranged magic attacks. Now make a case for how a melee build driven combat in DS2 comes close to BB. It is simply not as good.

i'm not sure that i can go back to a classic souls game at all

I would say wait for a new souls game. It will atleast be a new environment with new enemies etc.. so that will be good enough reason to re acclimatize with the slow combat.

They should make the next Souls game about Monks who use just their fists and remove any and all build choices to distill it down to the pure mechanics that BB champions feel make it a superior game. I mean any build variety takes that away and we wouldn't want other people to have options because that negatively impacts ones own playthrough.

I'll get it when it's the price of the dlc since I already bought the game day one when it released. I played it more than the other souls games simply due to sheer variety and a really cool ng+. Plus the multiplayer worked and was fun as hell.

At least Dark Souls 2 worked on release for summoning and the covenants were fleshed out. I can't say the same for Dark Souls or Bloodborne (whose covenants are pointless to progression).

You always have Souls combat with infinite meaningless fluff for your pleasure. BB fans are not claiming they should stop making Souls games after all. To be fair though I would most certainly welcome more build variety in a BB sequel. But I would prefer the build variety to focus on melee rather than time and attention focused on ranged magic.

Yeahp I bought all the souls, save for Demons, and Dark Souls 2 was the only multiplayer that actually worked on release. My friend and I played right off the bat. I remember not getting dark souls to work until multiple patches and halfway through the game.

I'm thinking bloodborne, then a palate cleanser of something like EDF, then DS2. Not sure two soulsy games back to back would be a good idea for me.

I also expect a decent price drop fairly quickly on DS2

Summoning didn't work for Dark Souls but has worked pretty much throughout for BB. It's probably the second best game at summoning for me (first being Demons at working) because I don't have to worry about stupid shit like Soul Memory.

And I don't think we can come to a conclusion about Convenants yet as those are still being discovered, unless I missed something.

Poor hitboxes, forgettable bosses, forgettable OST, inferior level and enemy design, combat is not as tight and ruined by certain things.......oh yeah I'm really going to miss those magic builds in PvP (/s) lol.

I got the upgrade on my PC for $20. Will most likely get it for PS4 when I can get it for around that price since I still have bloodborne to complete. It actually works out rather well for me right now. If the lady wants to watch her shows I can just go in the room and play DS2 on my PC and vice versa.

Nah, that would be silly...I only have like 60 hours in BB so far! :P

Already invested hundreds of hours into DkS 2, I'll get the PS4 version much later.

I'm going to try DSII, since I've never played it, but I have a feeling I won't like it as much as Bloodborne. Even if I do like it, I don't see myself shelfing Bloodborne any time soon.

Despite beating Dark Souls 2 twice, I'm tempted. The more I play Bloodborne, the more I find myself appreciating what a masterpiece DaS2 was. People really give that game a lot of undue flak, while I just keep seeing more and more flaws with Bloodborne.

There's no way I'm going back to DS2 while I'm playing Bloodborne. I might visit the remake sometime down the road, maybe. But DS2 was pretty underwhelming anyway, so I may just end up never touching it again.

Already beat it last year, so I won't. But the people hating on it, or not playing it just because it's the worst in the series is silly. It does some things right compared to the other games, that alone makes it worth checking out.

Yes sure, I guess it's mostly BB setting what turns many people off?

Main (non-technical) complaints seem to be limited play styles, flask > shards for healing, lack of environment variety and exploration rarely rewards more than consumables. Just what i've picked up from reading threads, I've not played myself so i'm not saying those complaints are mine.

Sure will, beat the game twice now, I hate to say this, but I like the variety of backgrounds in DS2 more. BB world is such a grim place filled with creatures of a 1000 nightmares!
