Why are you participating in their dumb little game they're playing here?
IDK, back to Pokemon I guess.

I still don't get it. This mythological monopoly was going to do what? Raise e-book back to MSRP and stick them there forever? That's what we essentially got with that deal. It basically turned the Publishers into a monopoly and cartel. I could care less who has the monopoly in that case.
In one scenario, we had the fear that Amazon would do this. So we decided to guarantee the results starting on January 22, 2010 instead? Meh. If we're going to have a pricing monopoly, at least lets enjoy the ride before we get there. This was the worst of both worlds.
You're both being selfish because you both want certain people excluded from gaming.
Cook really wants that beta key I see.
It's not though when Publishers and Apple are ripping off the consumer to the degree that ebooks are more expensive than physical books than something is wrong.
Apple and the publishers deserve to be sued because of it.
I don't see being anything other than Gabe meeting with Tim Cook like he does with others all the time.
Coming from someone who's writing this post on a MacBook Pro, have an iPhone 4, an AppleTV and an iPad I'll just say this: FUCK touch-gaming (and "Apple-gaming" in general). Seriously.
I know, ClovingSteam. But you have to understand that things change. The idea of dedicated gaming doesn't work anymore --everything is about services and ecosystem. That's why more people use Xbox 360s to do things like watch Netflix and HBO Go rather than playing multiplayer games. That's why iPads and iPhones are the leading mobile gaming devices.
Gaming isn't just your hobby anymore, ClovingSteam. It's a part of something bigger now.
Are you suggesting that of the 40 million or so iPads and 100 million or however many iPhones and iPod's out there, there isn't a sizable portion of that audience willing to spend $20 on a game if it's worth $20? REALLY? Think about how stupid that sounds. Say it out loud.
When some makes a banner touch game and it fails because of a high price, you'll have a source for your opinion. Right now you have an opinion based on nothing at all, as it hasn't been tried yet. I'd buy a $20 game if it gave me a $20 experience on my ipad in a heartbeat.
I know Apple doesn't set the book prices but the reason they are part of the suit from the DOJ is they were just as responsible for organizing the price fixing of the ebooks.Apple doesn't set book prices. The publishers do, just like on the App Store. Apples mistake was demanding that no other book selling service be allowed to sell for less than they do.
I just want real gamers to have real games instead of the fake games that show up on these horrible devices which truly are a threat to the entire industry.
But nobody is being excluded under this new model. More people are playing games because gaming is more accessible and has less of a stigma attached to it now. Something like the iPad offers everything from the most casual of games to wonderfully complex "hardcore" games. The problem is some people just can't deal with the idea of gaming without a d-pad and 4 face buttons. I mean, shit, look at how people derided the Wii as "waggle bullshit." Or the sheer vitriol directed at iPad gaming. But outside of the "hardcore gaming" bubble, nobody cares.
Taking over? That appears to be neither their goal nor desire, so why are people even talking about it. It's absurd.I'm fine with co-existance, I'm fine with a platform that can offer something for everyone like Steam, but Apple taking over with what they offer right now would exclude a lot of people.
I'm being excluded under this new model, millions are. Can I play something like Assassin's Creed (just an example) with this new model? Nope, buttons are needed as is a higher pricing structure which is still unproven.

It seems to be an un-intentional consequence. Unlike a lot of people here I do not deny their threat to dedicated handhelds and I see the possibility of them offering some sort of streaming service between ipad and their TVs to possibly combat consoles in the future.
Somewhat similar to the 80's crash. It wasn't E.T. that killed gaming, it was the chuck wagon types of games. Cheap disposable games that brought down the reputation of all games after being bought by non-gamers who didn't know the difference between a chuck wagon and pac man.
Apple gets payback for Microsoft stealing Halo away from them, makes Half-Life 3 Mac OS X exclusive.
How to murder sony/ms in one fell swoop. Now that Steve is gone, Apple can really really care about games. Since Jobs disliked them. Bungie went to Apple first to bail them out after their financial troubles. Apple gave them the cold shoulder then. Oops.
I would venture a guess that this is all about the Ivy Bridge Macbook Pro's coming out and seeing how (current) Steam games run on them and what Valve needs from Apple for upcoming content.
If it's more than that, cool. If not, cool too.
lol, this thread is hilarious.
His salary is 900K a year, spending half a day to go to Seattle isn't costing anywhere near a couple hundred grand.

Trolls trolling, trolls getting trolled, it's a regular troll party in here.

All gaming PCs officially null and void. Proprietary hardware or gtfo.

He probably just went to personally complain to Gabe about the Steam iPhone app.

At the same time, when the existing model is trying to fuck consumers as hard as they possibly can (via things like marginalizing used games, limiting functionality, selling on disc unlocks, etc.), is this really something we should be defending?
