Steam merging with iTunes
maybe they could turn it into a half decent piece of software
Steam merging with iTunes
What if the AppleTV is actually an all-in-one entertainment box...videogames included?

Seems like a safe bet; a smart tv with voice navigation alone isn't really that compelling. Something that leverages the breadth of Apple's ecosystem, with full integration with iOS devices, though? That would be fantastic.
This makes so much sense. Valve are renowned for their love of closed systems.
It can be something just related to the already existing Steam Mac support.
Possible, but why send the CEO to talk about something like that in person?

No reason to at all.
Lets think about Apple buying Steam.
He was just "spotted", people act like if he was there in a big meeting for several hours.

Maybe Tim loves Seattle?
Ninja Edit: OR Tim was also scoping out the Washington State Convention Center for his PAX console announcement with Valve!
I was kidding![]()
I might not be dreaming big enough, but 3D Games on Mac are broken.
There's about a 50% performance difference between running a game on OS X vs Win7 on the same machine.
I hope they discussed that as well.

To show that the new Apple gives a shit about games.

Oh shit.
So how much is Valve worth, roughly?
They'd be better off taking that up with nVidia/ AMD/ whoever does their video cards these days.

Rumored over 3 billion.

We don't know for sure though since Valve is a private company. I don't think a buyout or merger is likely, though. Valve has no reason to do so.
It would certainly show that. Still seems unlikely, since that message can be sent by many other people (executives, team leaders) and in many other ways (skype, phone call, e-mail). CEO's usually meet in person to discuss *the future*.

Doesn't Apple use mobility cards in its iMacs, or am I misinterpreting the 'M'?
Except what could the thing run...I'm not sure the specs but just looking at it I can tell it doesn't pack much of a punch lol.
They're AMD cards, from a quick glance at the website. The 'M' just means it's a laptop part.

An AppleTV has a GPU? Color me confused.

Apple buys steam for a ridiculous price.
I could see that happening. If you're looking to get seriously into the gaming industry, that'd be certainly the way to do it.
they use AMD laptop cards and laptop mobos. All all-in-one computers use a laptop mobo and either integrated graphics or a laptop discrete gpu.

I believe it uses the same SoC that the iPad 2 uses. (?) That has a GPU, yes.
But nobody is being excluded under this new model. More people are playing games because gaming is more accessible and has less of a stigma attached to it now. Something like the iPad offers everything from the most casual of games to wonderfully complex "hardcore" games. The problem is some people just can't deal with the idea of gaming without a d-pad and 4 face buttons. I mean, shit, look at how people derided the Wii as "waggle bullshit." Or the sheer vitriol directed at iPad gaming. But outside of the "hardcore gaming" bubble, nobody cares.
yea, a buy out is not in the cards for a million different reasons. There's no reason for it. That said, a higher level collaboration...that's very possible. If Valve really wants to come out with a set-top box...and if we know Apple has been trying to get a viable set-top box into the market for some time now...why not work together on one? Apple's brand name power and Valve's gaming strength could be a good match for a new set-top box.
