Apple Is Most Valuable Company on Earth

Don't you understand? Only apple could save us for the clunky OS and designs of old times. Is not like if they weren't there another company could have stepped up to fill that void. Only apple could, and that why we thank them.

The day they fall, we are all back to ugly, big phones with stupid UIs. I heard even Nokia is getting ready the worst version of Symbian ever made to be launched that day.

Funnily enough people never did really do it before iPhone nor can they really still do it now. iPhone still has the best UI and user experience (from industry awards to glowing reviews of iOS)

Why do you think iPod was so successful? (If the quoted post went over my head, I'll woosh myself)

People who still don't get it.

They make a pretty good phone, but I think Android has them beat in UI and features. I just like how the iphone syncs with my mac so naturally.

They definitely make the best laptops though. Only Sony's high end stuff can compete. Screw that cheap plastic crap with those dinky track pads everyone else makes.

Debatable. Look at the Palm Pre. It did a lot of things better than Apple did but was killed due to several reasons including the iPhone. How much of WebOS was based on iOS we'll never know so Apple fans have that out.

I was just making fun of people that try to ligth apple as the jesus of modern everything. I don't give a fuck about phone wars. I fact I have a 3gs and love how easy and natural they made it. Ordered an HTC wildfire to have both systems in fact. Android has until theiphone 5 launch to convince me!

And actually I don't know why the ipod was so successful. I hate the click wheel. I bought a classic for my gf and I don't know if my fingers are too numb but is incredibly frustrating for me to use it. Too imprecise, too many clicks and clacks to go for one place to the other.
The nano is where it is at. Just play/stop and forget about anything else.

Apple makes nice shit that is worth paying a premium for. However it is no where near as important as say, Energy. If Jobs dies or they lose some key engineers then Apple can fail.

Most popular, and arguably most accessible ui sure. NOT the best by a long shot. If anything, its the ui that needs the greatest improvements (coming from a power user's pov). However, most folks just want to make a simple calls and txt, with an occasional messing around of apps.

Still, you cater to the masses, not the minority. No other company in this market has done nearly as a good a job as apple. its what blew them up in the first place, and why they remain top dog for the foreseable future.

WebOS and Windows Phone 7 both arguably have better UIs than iOS, but all three of them kinda blow Android away in that regard (though not on features).

I always thought the click wheel was absolutely awful. The iPhone is a great device, but you'd have to pay me to use an iPod Classic over a Zune 80/120.

Well, yeah... is still awesome to say "Apple bigger than Exxon!!"
I know market cap doesn't mean much to some people.

But you can't take away what Apple has done. Even if you don't like the company for whatever stupid reason.

Now, now, there are plenty of perfectly legitimate reasons to loathe Apple.

apple fanboys are the new nintendo fans, only hipsters by apple products, yadda yadda yadda

shit gets really old around here.

One thing that has impressed me to no end about them is the fact that they never stagnated. If you look at the competition for mp3 players, tablets, and phones. Literally all rested on their heels of moderate success.

Apple has been continuously updating iTunes to include more than music: now movies rentals and apps. Their iPods have changed constantly, from the classics to the various nanos, the shuffles, etc. iPhones have seen significant additions every year: first it was just a buttonless smartphone, then came the app store and 3G, then a nice power boost, then FaceTime and higher rez, etc. Then we get an iPad. Huge apple tv improvement is next I'd guess

Their products get excitement because everyone wants to know what is next. I can't think of a another company that fosters this excitement in product announcements. Every year companies refresh their products, but apple is practically the only one that gets the excitement not once, but usually multiple times a year for their various products. AmaZing

The iTunes Store. With competitors, you had to rip CDs or know how to find/make MP3s. Apple made the complete experience that anyone could figure out.
This is working under the assumption most iPods arent filled with pirated music. I don't know the facts, but that's hard to believe.

Most iPods don't even have 2 GB of music on them. People are really dumb about this. It's like magnets to them. How does it work? But they know if you buy from iTunes, it just shows up on your iPod when you plug it in.

You do know the iTunes store is the #1 music retailer in the country, right?

Think about that.

Perhaps now. The first few years when it destroyed all competition? I don't know if buying music through iTunes was driving that.

It didn't start to destroy all the competition until the iTunes Store came out for Windows.

iTunes was definitely a major selling point for Apple. "Hey it can play pirated music, but you can also cheaply buy your favorite music and download free podcasts with just one click.".

I really don't get the fanboyism. Even if you don't use Apple products.

Do guys remember how Windows used to look before they started to take cues from Apple? Same with smartphones?

Everyone benefits when UI design and usability are put in the forefront over ad nauseum feature creep.

I'd say launching on Windows was the more important thing at work there.
Just working on Windows didn't mean anything. A lot of MP3 players did that. Remember, Apple was the most toxic brand in computing back then. They weren't cool and popular to people like they are now. The iPod had no additional pull compared to every other Windows compatible MP3 player.

It was the combination of a nice looking MP3 player with an easy music store. You have to also remember that being able to download your music legally was a big fucking deal back then, too. It's just an expected feature from every company now.

Think you're giving iTunes too much credit, if you couldn't easily put illegally downloaded music on the iPod it wouldn't have been nearly as big. 99% of the people I know that had iPod at launch just pirated music, and probably still do. Doubt it's much different overall among other users then (and now).

I was hip before the hipsters. I had an ipod in 2002. take that hipsters. 5 gig for windows, with Musicmatch, the crappiest software in all of god's green earth. Cost me 600$CAN. :(
You waited until they made Windows ones? Psh...

It's the largest retailer of music.

The best for UI and user based experience. Yes.

That's what I meant. To the person who said WP7 has a better UI, I dunno. It looks like they tried to modernise it way too much and looks like a complete unordered pile of regurutated icons

Anecdotal evidence is awesome.

Since WebOS was created out of Jon Rubinstein along with the Pre, he got all his previous experience working at Apple. Without Apple I'm pretty confident we can say it would not have existed at all.

imagine if you invested money in apple when their stock price was 10 bucks, you would have 35 times the money now.

Imagine if you did, but then sold it all when they made it to 64 a share. Imagine how much you'd be kicking yourself.

I cry myself to sleep sometimes at night....

This is something i could not give a single fuck about.
I use a mac at work because i must.
I wish people posted more stuff on other audio outlets like amazon, so i could get those somewhere other than itunes. If they disappeared tomorrow, my life would not change. At least my work computer would probably get faster though, im tired of working on this G4.

For a fairer comparison, compare that to the first phone with iTunes:

Up to 100 songs! Oh boy!

That is not fair at all. Apple licensed it to play DRM'd iTunes songs. They did not design the phone.

LOL. Maybe you could exchange it for a Pentium running Windows 95 ?

Well, I used to be an apple supporter, but since they are now #1, I go rebel again... ;)

Anyhow, I wonder how long will they able to keep it up? Obligatory Steve Jobs factor inserted.

Well, #1's always come and go. That's just the way it is, I guess.

I know that feeling all too well. I was doing all my creative work on an ancient Pentium III until recently. (It was replaced with a Pentium 4. Last year.)

With some bosses you practically have to sabotage your computer to burst into flames to get approval for an upgrade, and even then they'll first see if it can be repaired.

Well, they're not number in PC or smartphone marketshare. They're just amongst the most profitable. Dat margin.
