April Xbox One Preview "Wave 1" details

No language region lock

This. I know this is not an issue for US gamers, but if you happen to live in Europe and want to enjoy a game in its intended English glory and don't want to settle for bad German/French/whatever dubs, this is pretty annoying. There is a workaround were you can change your region to an English speaking country and choose English, but then you have to switch the region back every time you want to purchase something of the marketplace. What is frustrating with this issue is that it would probably be very, very easy to fix if MS cared about it. I mean how hard can it be to choose the region separately from the language, every other system lets you do that too.

If it's done at system level the game could be able to display the remapped button and not the default one... But I think remapping can only be useful if it's done per game (even if centralized by the system), otherwise I don't think there would be a remap that would work for all games and you would spend your time reconfiguring it when switching from one game to another. For example if you prefer shooting with a face button you could remap the right trigger to A, but then in all car games you would accelerate with A.

Ah ok I see. Well it sure wouldn't hurt anybody. I use the default buttons on 95% of all games so this has never been a problem for me. 2 exceptions:
I still prefer the PES shoot/cross buttons to FIFA and I like the CoD mapping way more than Halo. Takes me like 10 seconds each to configure.

+1 :)

Strange because some things like the 50 Hz problem were fixed right away.

Maybe this is issue is rather complicated and they don´t want to "waste" all the ressources on it.

I think it's made this way to protect the regional xbox store. And you get localized ad's on the dashboard.
I'm German and this bugs me as well, have set my X1 to US so I can enjoy the games in their original language, and 99% Kinect works even tho I have an accent.
But Forza games are killing me. I pronounce it the correct italian way "Fortsah" and Kinect never recognizes it since it's pronounced "Forsah" in English I guess.
Then I have to press a button to launch the game (like a wild animal).

Anyways, if this is a problem thats annoying me the most (it is to me) I think MS is doing a fine job with the OS.

I don't know how desired button remapping is for people, I want it badly for Halo, but let's hope that Sony doing it has put some pressure on MS to do it. They don't need to do any game level changing, if you remapped a button you should know what it replaced, simple as that.

As for functionality, I'd really like a guide again, but I don't think snap will ever leave due to the fact that games change states for snap (change resolution & other graphical effects). What should really happen is that a single tap brings up a guide (from which you can go to the home screen), double tap brings up snap as always, and hold works as normal.

Part of the issue if it's not tied to games is what happens when you go into another game that doesn't recognize a system level implementation so all your buttons are wrong? I think the fact Sony is doing it is cool but I think a profile per-game would be my preferred implementation because it wouldn't ruin control schemes console wide.

Certainly, there's a lot you can do with it. They could have a tab in the settings that has all your played games and you can select a game to remap. Really love that idea.

Let's hope wave 2 includes some more substantial changes.

Microsoft has detailed further Xbox One enhancements due as part of the system's April firmware update, including voice messages.

Available to dashboard preview testers this week and all Xbox One owners soon after, voice messaging will allow you to leave voicemail-style audio clips in your friends' inboxes.

The system will even allow Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners to exchange voice messages regardless of platform.

Two other new features have also been detailed: an updated What's On section of the dashboard, now more tailored to the games or series that you play, and dedicated servers for those struggling with party chat connections.
