Shadow of the Colossus

Best implementation of archery and horseback in a game I have played. One of my favorite gaming moments of all time.

Dragons Dogma. It's third person but damn if it isn't the most fun I've ever had while playing an archer class.

It was awesome. Even as an assassin, with his watered down versions of the ranger's bow skills, I felt unstoppable.

Also, I agree with OP: Skyrim's archery is fantastic, if only for the sound the arrows make when they hit someone. *CLONK*

Wii Sports resort has an excellent archery simulator. Very satisfying when you line up your aim at the distant target, take account of the wind direction and velocity, and then release the drawstring and see it fly true into the bullseye.

The stealth combat in Skyrim was so much fun (if a little broken). Nothing was more satisfying than sneaking around a corner, lining up a shot, then hearing that THUMP when the arrow connected.

Point taken guys.

I actually have this in my backlog, definitely going to bump it up my list now I think!

The Last of Us and Dragon's Dogma are great for archery. I particularly like bows in Dark Souls, had an archery duel about 2 years ago that was sublime. Archery's definitely on the rise in games, I'm enjoying it although could see it overdone to the point of over saturation.

have yet to play a well executed first person archery (hunting or as part of the story) aspect, except perhaps Skyrim coming closest.

third person just doesn't cut it

you like to see more of it in games

It was pretty fun in The Last of Us as well.

Honestly, I can't believe Shadow of the Colossus hasn't been mentioned yet either.

Came to mention these games. And also the Zelda series. The Wii Sports Resort one is probably my personal favourite though, probably because you feel like you're actually doing it as well as having to take into account the wind and trajectory too.

Sub Zero

his body's cold as ice, but he's got a heart of gold
Far Cry 3's bow was awesome, one of the few things I liked about the game

Is Arrow really that good? I watched the first 4 episodes when it started and dropped it. I was really turned off by the poor acting and character development.

I love archery in video games but I'm also a member of an archery club and shoot every Monday night. Must give dragons dogma a try.

Yep, getting the damage bonus for stealth attacks. Bringing down trolls with 1 shot etc. That's how i have played Skyrim and most enjoyed it that way.

Entire first page only has one mention of Zelda.

OoT and Majora's Mask had some of the most fun archery I've played. Especially Majora's Mask for giving purpose to the ice arrows.

Am I wrong to think that archery had a slight boost in popularity when that first Hunger Games movie came out?

It's probably just coincidence, but we had some games after that movie's release that used it.

I'm with you OP. I've adored archery ever since I played as an archer in Ragnarok years ago. Since then, I've always gravitated towards the archery class in RPGs. Any game with archery as a core mechanic always peaks my interest.

Speaking of Arrow, I've always felt like the Thief games are the closet thing we've gotten to a Green Arrow/Hawkeye game. The majority of your gadgets are centered around Garret's bow.You have regular arrows, blunt arrows, and trick arrows such as water arrows, noisemaker arrows, sleep arrows, fire arrows, etc.

3rd person, but I love archery in Monster Hunter and Zelda.

I can't think of any other games sadly, though.

Yup, Dragon's Dogma pretty much nailed archery when it comes to the fun factor.

Magik archer making it RAIN on them fools………literally.

Love archery in games. Taking out enemies with Sheva's bow in RE5 was so satisfying. Might have to take a look at some other suggestions (I knew of Zelda though).

Skyrim's archery is undoubtedly the best form of combat in the game. It's pretty decent. Archery in games is really cool. I haven't played Dragon's Dogma but it must be good if so many in here have cited it.

I'm looking forward to see how archery is DayZ turns out.

How has anyone not mentioned the Souls series bows?

Great mechanics and subtle zoom., plus arrow drop and flaming arrows.

That said, hrd to top Tomb Raider IMO.

I'm always a stealthy-rougey-archery-backstabby type whenever possible. The bow in Tomb Raider 2013 is full-on porno for people like me. I just 100% it last night and it is fucking GLORIOUS.
