Are There Any Action RPGs on 3DS?

I've been getting a strong urge to play an action RPG in the style of Shining Soul/Soma Bringer/Ys but all I can think of is Kingdom Hearts DDD. Are there any recommended ones that I have overlooked?

Zelda ain't an RPG! I got all those played already anyway ;D

Tales of the Abyss is a good pick I think! :) It's at least an ARPG and a great one IMO.

Played it on the PS2. Great game!

Well there's going to be Grezzo's Ever Oasis coming up.

Looking forward to it!

Heroes of Ruin. There's a demo on the eshop.

Don't know about this one. I'll check it out. Thanks!

Little Battlers eXperience

The Pokemon Rumble games are kinda RPGs? I'd mostly just call them action games I guess.

I didn't ever finish this game but I do own it. I may go back to it. Was it an action RPG...? I completely forgot what the combat was like.

Does Fantasy Life count?

This game didn't do it for me. Not really into the sim stuff.

Kingdom Hearts 3D.

Mentioned in the OP!

Monster Hunter! :D

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Monster Hunter Generations

I actually most recommend 3U only because it's the cheapest (on eShop) and is packed with content, but it depends on your preference since all have their differences.

Be warned that 3U has no online on 3DS but does on Wii U, the other two have online multiplayer.

Rune Factory 4 fits though it also has the Harvest Moon side of things as well.

Couldn't get into Rune Factory. I have it on the PS3, still too much sim for my tastes. Unless the 3DS version is a lot different?

I've tried, tried and tried again to get into Monster Hunter but I just cannot. The only hunt style game I've ever really enjoyed was God Eater.

Funny you mention PS3, as that would be Tides of Destiny, and I believe that was by far the most APRG of them all. The main games are far more sim-based. I only played Frontier on Wii though (it's awesome BTW).

What about the Musou games? There are only Hyrule Warriors Legends, Samurai Warriors Chronicles, and Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3rd (eShop-only) in the west (2nd and Dynasty Warriors VS never came over).

Definitely more to what I'm looking for but seems a little basic. I'll look into it and see how people feel about it. Thanks!

I've sunk so many hours into Chronicles 3 and Hyrule Warriors, haha. I'd say nearly 150 combined.

Rune Factory 4, though its a harvest moon spinoff so it has farm/sim elements as well as city building

Gurumin 3D

Tales of the Abyss

Xenoblade 3DS

Probably a few more

Here, have a peek at this:

You might find something you're looking for. :)

Edit: Of course, how can I forget Gurumin 3D?!

I actually reviewed it, have a read if you're interested:

https://goldmetalsonic.wordpress.com/2016/10/11/gurumin-3d-3ds-eshop-review/

I gave it a 7/10. It's not the most polished (and I got a N3DS after and it runs a bit better on it), there's audio issues where it always skips a brief second when loading an area, but it's worth $15 on the eShop I say. :)

I played Gurumin back on the PSP years ago, and picked it up on Steam recently.

Of all games to get so much attention, haha. Good for it. Good game.

Final Fantasy Explorers?
Monster Hunter games?

It sounds like you've played a lot of the 3ds library already, btw.

Tried both of those, not really into the hunting genre.

And yeah, I have. But I guess what I'm looking for just isn't a thing on the 3DS.

Gurumin 3D was the most recent ARPG to come out.

There is a lack of ARPGs on the 3DS, maybe it will improve when the Switch comes out.

Otherwise, Steam is good enough to play ARPG games, Xanadu Next from Falcom came out recently.

What about Senran Kagura? Story is nonsense, a little lewd, lots of characters and a bit like a Musou game but in beat em up style.

Kid Icarus?

Big Falcom guy, been loving Xanadu Next.

It's a DS game but Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time is really good. One of the better 3D games on the system.

You know, I've never played that game but picked it up on launch day...

I can't do otaku bait fan pandering. I picked up the Vita game on a sale a few years back and stopped playing after 15 minutes.

Is Kid Icarus an RPG? I thought it was a rail shooter or something.

Kid Icarus is a bit of both, in the air it's a shooter on the ground is an ARPG.

There's absolutely nothing RPG about Kid Icarus Uprising.^^

It's a fantastic game everyone should play but it has no business in this thread. :)

I have to say Ever Oasis is the game that popped into my mind first, but it ain't out yet. :/

If you don't mind DS games, have a gander at Solatorobo.

Thanks for reminding me that the 3DS is the red headed step child of the gaming industry despite it's performance saleswise. One would think that the device that have the most successful RPG game of all time (hint:Pokemon) would have had received all kinds of RPG games...

It has if you have a JP 3DS.

It's funny how non of the Ys games are on 3DS. At least Ys 3 Oath in Fleghana and Origin.
You'd have your Action RPG fix right there :V
Will check out the Oasis game tho.

Yeah, this still puzzles me to this day.

Fantasy Life!
This. Fantasy Life is awesome unless you want a standard 'save the world from ancient evil' rpg plot. It's more about progressing in the career you've chosen. Some are better than others but I never got bored of riding around as a paladin on a horse.

Falcom "hates" Nintendo. You'll notice how none of their games ever appear on any Ninty system. Only exception being Ys I & II.

Yep. Despite Gurumin 3D being on 3DS, not only did Mastiff have to do all the work and came up with the idea themselves, but Falcom didn't even publish the game in Japan, they passed it to Flyhigh Works instead, when they publish all of their games in Japan. :/

Well it's actually a DS game but if you never played it, definitely check out The World Ends With You.

While you're at it, since you mentioned KH DreamDropDistance, there is also Days and re:Coded.
