Are you a pizza snob?

The pizzas I choose from: Domino's, Little Caesar's, DiGiorno, Totino's Party Pizzas.

Last times I ate Papa John's and Red Baron, I got sick.

The only franchise I enjoy these days is Jets. Detroit style pizza is very underrated and in terms of the USA varieties, it is only second to New York syle.

You know, I kinda like "cheap" / homemade DIY pizza.

The premade crust, the pre-made sauce, the generic cheese and ham, and using an electric oven.

Very much a pizza snob. I eat very strict and clean 6 days a week and pizza is my one meal where I let go and enjoy unhealthy food. I'm sure as hell not wasting it on Little Caesars!

yeah

dominos, pizza hut, papa johns, etc. this is not real pizza. this is McPizza
it's okay if you like it, but it's just full of shit and tastes like ass to me. If it's the only choice and I'm starving, i might actually eat it 50% of the time.

a good NY or chicago style slice, works for me. Any kind of pizza that's not franchise style cardboard with garbage on top I'll consider, but it takes a special slice for me to turn my head

so yeah I guess I'm a pizza snob :\

I've sworn off papa johns and dominos. No clue why I ate that stuff for so long. Cringe every time I see a roommate order one of those for themselves.

Love quality NYC street pizza. High quality pepperoni, lots of sauce, oil dripping, and a thin slightly toasted crust. We got a place here and it's pretty damn good. A bit pricey but not insanely marked up.

No. I mean there's pizza that I do not consider to be good pizza, but I will still eat it. Because it's pizza. It's hard for bread, sauce and cheese to be not edible for me.

Also not from or ever been to NYC, so I haven't had the so called best pizza.

No. I will notice the difference between a Little Caesar's pizza and a higher quality one from one of the local joints but I will still eat them both.

I draw the line at Cici's Pizza. Makes me want to vomit.

I'd like to see the geographic breakdown of the people in this thread. There's large parts of the US where there's no good reason to be a pizza snob.

Nah, man. The only pizza I've had that I didn't like is the one I ordered at a burger joint that doesn't usually sell pizzas.

The "cheese" was actually Kraft singles melted over the pie. I don't know if they were out of cheddar or if they've always used leftover stock from their burgers, but it was awful. The worst part? I was overzealous and got the Hawaiian Pizza.

I still ate 2/3 of it, though. I don't care if it was a $5 lunch special, I was getting my money's worth
.

I sure as hell am. I grew up with eating NYC pizza atleast once a week until I left to go to college in New England. What a dark 4 years that was. Papa Johns and Dominos everywhere. People not from a good pizza area just don't understand there is a difference.

Food is a big reason to live in a big city. I've got so many big city friends who want to move to flyover country. I warn them they're trading artisan mom&pop shops for crappy national franchises. If you can cook at home it's not bad. But many of them are used to eating out all the time. They don't realize how shitty the eating out options are in most of the country.

There are two exceptions. Hipster hotbeds and college towns. Those are usually one in the same though.

Living in CT, you are surrounded by amazing pizza's (NY style and New Haven style) everywhere you look.

It's actually really tough to find a terrible pizza, since everyone expects you to have great pizza, you would be out of business quick if you are sub-par.

I enjoy a thin and crispy Tasso ham and fresh pineapple pizza but it is important to to remember that Hawaiian pizza exists solely because of the canned versions of both ingredients.

i am well-versed in good pizza and have opinions on it, but i'm not above ordering domino's with friends over or whatever. options are limited in japan.

it's because domino's isn't really pizza to me that it kinda sorta can work on a different level. like a big mac isn't exactly my idea of a burger but it has its moments. mostly at 4am

Nope.

I can certainly tell a quality pizza over something like Dominos, but in the end it's all good to me. I'll eat pretty much any pizza and enjoy it.

Making food has very little to do which region the ingredients are put together in. Why would it be better in one area than another? Are the people in one region more skilled than another? The only thing that really changes region to region is the water due to very different sources and varying treatment practices.

I hear statements like OP's far too often and amazed at their belief. This belief is elitism plain and simple.

Considering New England has the best Pizza in the US. You're not a pizza snob you just don't know pizza.

Mileage may vary if New England doesn't not mean New Haven, CT.

Not even. There's a Pepe's pizza in west hartford CT, I live about 2 miles away from it.

No need to go to new haven for the best pizza in New England.

Sorry, but this is totally insane. Yes, of course people in some regions are more skilled than in others. Skill and knowledge in food preparation, and the taste/demands of customers in said food, is culture & tradition, which is highly regional.

And sometimes there's a whole regional ecosystem that contributes to better food. For example, great pizza depends on local production of great cheese, which of course varies by region. There can be so many factors beyond water that make a difference.

Can a person with the necessary knowledge and skill produce great pizza anywhere? Or course. But it's going to be more common in places that have the tradition and culture and ecosystem to support it.

It's culture.

I grew up in the rust belt. Only thing customers cared about was price. So we had tons of cheap pizza options. Terrible, crappy, shitty franchise options. We are talking frozen dough, canned sauce, plastic imitation cheese, canned toppings...etc. And no diversity of franchises either. Didn't like the 3 national franchises in your neighborhood? Drive a few miles and find the exact same 3 franchises down the road. Keep driving and find the same 3 again...and again...and again....

Now I live somewhere different where customers care about quality. Customers are willing to spend more to get something of higher quality. Fresh dough, fresh sauce made in-house, real cheese...etc. Coincidentally, I've got more amazing pizza options than I can count or remember.

Rome has some bad pizza in the touristy spots, but everything else is amazing. Whereas Naples is a total shit pot but doesn't have a bad pizza anywhere.

Totally agree. There's plenty of shitty pizza in Rome - that's why we have to be snobbish about it, because with no chains, the difference between Rome's best and Rome's worst is beyond incredible.

One thing i've learned over the years is: The weirder the name, the better the pizza. The best ones in my zone are named L'Obitorio (The Morgue, after the fact that long slabs of marble are used are tables) and Il Buco (The Hole, after the fact that it's fucking tiny and most of the place is underground)

Every five to ten years, I lose enough brain cells so I forget what Dominos pizza tastes like. My daughter is home sick and really, really wants it. I can't get her to eat anything else right now, so what the hell.

However, I know it's gonna be WRETCHED.

OK Dominos, this is your chance to surprise me.

OK, I admit that surprised me. Not good, but almost like a real pizza in some ways.
