Are you happy with your given name?

I actually like my name a lot but unfortunately most Americans have trouble pronouncing it so it's to the point where I pretty much just introduce myself as my nickname just to keep it simple. Strangely enough however since I moved to Japan not one Japanese person has had any problems at all pronouncing my actual name.

First name, Alexander, yes.
Last name also yes, but I am going through the legal process currently of having my mother's maiden name appended to my current last name (i.e [X]-[Y])

I like my name, Jakob. You can't really make any nicknames out of it, so I'm happy. The constant misspelling (Jacob vs Jakob) can be a pain though.

Tara with the first "a" pronounced like in the word "car".

I friggin' love my name, although people from other countries have had surprising difficulty pronouncing it.

Scott

Initials: SMR

I'm happy with my name :)

My mom said my grandmother named me...I miss her :(

My cousins name is Lareda but she changed it to Lori.

What's your name? That is the point of this thread XD

My name is Joe

When you are kid in school EVERYTHING RHYMES WITH JOE!

Sometimes It's infuriating, But I like being called Joe...It's who I is.

Also my initials are JAG...so that too.

I think Olivia sounds nice, so, I'm happy with my name. Though, I don't like the way it looks when it's written. Not quite sure why.

I like the name Olivia :). Most probably due to Fringe lol

My first name is Robinson. I get a lot of "So thats your last name?"

I never have a lack of interest in my name when I introduce myself to people, makes breaking the ice quite easy.

Yup, Alexandre is pretty good.

Johann Sebastian

I have awesome parents.

Eliezer. Well it's original at the least.

My name is Raphaël. A lot of times I hear that people find my name nice but to be honest I'm really opinionless about it...

Alessio.
Kinda, it would be way better if i didn't have a lisp.
These are all awesome.

My first name is OK, Owen, but I have two middle names, Robert and Charles. It sounds so pretentious together, Owen Robert Charles Parker, urgh, sounds regal or something.

I love Evangeline Lily's name, sounds like a beautiful, exotic flower. Pretty apt I'd say.

My name is Christian.

When I was younger I preferred to go by Chris. Many of my family members and long term/close friends still call me Chris. As an adult that changed and I primarily go by Christian. It's always easy to to separate/tell apart who has known me for some time from those that have not.

I still have annoying instances where for whatever reason people like to think my name is Christina (restaurants, replies to emails at work, doctors offices) because they don't know how to read or just don't care.

I'm a 6'1" 200lb guy. I really don't think Christina suits me. *sigh*

Michael, such a boring and common name.

Some call me Mike others Michael.

A big group of my friends just call me "El Rado" (everyone fucks up Eraldoso they just say El Rado) because there is like 5 Mikes in our group.

I love it.

I have an extremely unique name and it's good too imo.

Awesome ultra super trident reaper you

Gotta thank my mom for that.

My name is very common and very boring.

I was almost named Damien, but my father convinced my mother to give me his name at the last minute. Thanks, Dad. ¬_¬

Bryan.

I like it, its short and I don't think its a boring, over-used name. I also prefer it over the alternate spelling 'Brian', then again I'm probably biased.

I hate the fact that there's a British Prime Minister named Harold Wilson, and that everyone and their mother feels the need to ask if I know who I share names with.

I am sure, but its like the most common name ever.. Michael (go by Mike). So I named my son something I thought was more unique, and now its becoming more common. So my daughter who is due in Oct is getting some real unique out there name.

Excited for my kids names, but I've always like Mike. Just sucks when someone in the room goes, "Hey Mike!" and like 10 guys turn around

I hate my name: Justin

I'm black and very dark skinned, yet, people cannot resist calling me Justin Timberlake or Justin Beiber at every single opportunity.

In school I got a lot of the Justin Time's, Justin Credible's, etc., too. Hiiiighly annoying.

And now at work, the older people call me Jason, Jeffrey, Chester, Jesse, etc., as if Justin is so difficult to remember. Even in the same conversation I'll sometimes be called Justin, then at the end they'll say: 'ok, well thanks for all your help, Jason" -__-

And the final reason I hate my name with a passion is when people write my name, they can't resist adding an E at the end, as Justine. Even in reply emails where my name is in my signature, they'll still go out of their ways to type Justine.

I feel the same way but the opposite =P (my father and I spell it with a I, my cousin and his father spell it with a Y).

Generally I'm fine with my name. I have two middle names, and I like to use the initials when spelling my name out in full.

... Though I'm not 100% happy with my name, as two years ago a guy in the US (I live in Canada) with the same name got charged with sexual harassment. This has made crossing the border a headache.

Yup I'm cool with my name. Never bothered me. Seriously though who gives people shit about other peoples name? I mean maybe in like elementary school or something. Those people giving you a hard time about it seem pretty immature op.

I guess my name is okay but I don't think it fits me. I've never felt like a "Samantha" much. I've gone by Sam since 3rd grade and it's okay but it still doesn't feel like it fits me. I also despise "Sammy/Samie" and only my parents and grandmothers call me that.

My name is Zachary, I go by Zack, or sometimes Zacky.

While I like my name well enough, I've had a lot of people tell me they disliked it, or it wouldn't be a suitable name when I'm an old man, or that it just reminds them of Zac Efron. I've even had a girl tell me she'd date me if I had a better name. It's kind of annoying. I've even considered changing it.

How about you other Gaffers? Do you like your given name?

They're just jealous that your name is Zachary.

My only complaint would be that you spell Zac 'Z-a-c-k'.

If you haven't caught on by now my name is also Zachary

My name is Joe

My initials are JAG too.

My name is Joseph but I grew up being called Joey. My friends don't like the sound of it so they just call me Joe.

Jonathan but I go by as Jon/John which I like :) I know, John is a common name in the US but luckily I'm not from the US.

My second name is my dad's first name. It's ok.

I love my two last names though.

Kids these days. They'll hate on any name even if it's as normal as Zack. Anywho, I don't really like my name all that much. My dad is basically one of those weirdos who names their kids after celebrities. Unfortunately for me, the celebrity he liked at the time has a weird first name and so here I am. But whatever. When life hands you lemons and all that.

My name is Franco, by the way.

I have a love/hate relationship with my name, Marko.

As a kid I was always the only Marko so it was unique but I also had to constantly hear "Marko Polo" everywhere I went and it drove me nuts. It sounds stupid but it was traumatizing to be constantly made fun of with something as stupid as Marko Polo.

Now as an adult I get less "Polo's" when my name is called outloud but everyone thinks I'm latino.

About a month ago I bought a game on craigslist and the guy on the phone was really friendly. I was going to meet him at his house and then he asked for my name. He called back like an hour later asking if I could meet him at a shopping center instead because it was easier.
When I show up he looked shocked. We chit chatted a little and it turns out after I gave him my name he thought I was Mexican and wasn't comfortable with me coming to his house. Even worse, he came to the shopping center armed "just incase" though he didn't show me a weapon.
Now I'm not against someone arming themselves for a craigslist deal as I always have my handgun handy when dealing with someone over craigslist. Difference is I ALWAYS have it handy, not just when I'm dealing with latinos.

My name is sort of weird in that both my 1st and middle names are sorta my given name together. I prefer to go just by the middle one since it's how family has always referred to me (another family member shares my 1st name). My brother does the same funnily enough.

I am pretty happy with my middle name. And I think my given name (my middle and first names together) sounds pretty rad. Well, it does in Spanish. Pretty lame in English. Stop being lame, English language!
