ARMS Global Testpunch Thread: Let's see if this has LEGS

I gotta say though, I'm impressed with the netcode. I had zero disconnects and the only lag I noticed was some wonky V Ball physics in one match.

Had a blasty blast. Really fun game. I did half motion + half pro controller.

I liked pro controller better mostly due to maneuvering around the arena.

Holy shit that was so much fun.

99 coins before disconection. I just lost 3 matches, and 2 of the were 3vs3.

Mechanica is my favourite character, floating through the air is devastating as a strategy manouver.

Had fun with all the other characters except Ribbon Girl, feels super undepowered compared to the rest.

1 v 1 was the mode I enjoyed the most, I hope theres a way to play this online exclusively, vball was awful

VBall is amazing but too short. My last match I destroyed 0-5 with mechanica.

Super fun. Ended with 93 credits. I mained mechanica, which is strange because pre-testing I hated her design but in game she got me the most wins. It certainly needs more fighters because it seems to strange to face the same opponents all the time.

I'm kind of surprised how much I struggled with motion controls. Half the time I wanted to move forward my character punched instead and tilting to move left and right didn't feel very natural. I did better in handheld mode but even then I'm not really sure how the controls are set up there either.

Only got to play about 20 minutes but I'm enjoying it. Really have to be patient and wait for openings to attack your opponent. Like it so far!

Ended up with 65 points total. Nintendo honestly hit it out the park, love the motion controls as well. I played the entire time with Ribbon Girl, and little by little I started getting used to her gimmick. Very fun.

Moving controls were terrible with the joycons - rest was fine. I wish the re-thought it a bit so you could still move with the joystick and use motion controls for everything else. Control layout on the Pro controller wasn't much better at all. So many unused buttons and everything is mapped to the most awkward place possible.

That being said, my biggest complaint is that the matchmaking system constantly breaks up pairs and forces one person to just watch. Really stupid design.

Not going to keep my pre-order. Doesn't seem like it'll be enough to warranty $80.

I opened my Switch for the first time to try this game. I don't know if my Joycons are faulty or not, but I couldn't figure out how to move. After I switched to handheld mode, I was able to win the majority of my games. Fun short-term game but I can't see this having lasting appeal

This game is really fun. Reminds me a bit of a more simple Gundam EXVS or Virtual-On. Traditional controls are way better than the motion ones though.

2v2 would be way more interesting without the tether IMO

Had fun for the 45 mins I played. Surprised how well the motion controls work once you get out of that "flailing like a madman" mode.

Had a ton of fun using the thumps up grip, although I had a spot of trouble with aiming a few times. The one thing I didn't quite master is getting any of my curved punches to connect.

Pretty sure a guy in my 3 for all match came back to life and killed me and the other guy while we were fighting after he died. I still don't know how to change target, but I saw him go down and then I was focused on the other guy. Then after sparring for a bit, we're both supered from behind my back and killed.

Overall, glad I preordered, but I'm really hoping for more advanced tutorials...for instance, I played the whole hour and have no idea how to change my target.

Traditional controls for life. It makes it feel like a serious game with depth.

Only thing is. How do you throw curved punches with traditional controller?

Were you holding the joy-cons correctly? Both analog sticks should be facing each other. If you are, you just move by tilting the joycons in the direction you want to move.

...This explains so much. Will try it with this next time I hope into one of these sessions and see how I feel about it. Still not 100% certain, but actually being able to move in the motion controls would be a big help...

Well that was a lot of fun. Was sold on the game before. This just justified my pre order even more.

My least favourite fighter was Helix, and that was only because I don't like his weapons. Thought his movement options were fun, just his weapons letting him down.

I was surprised to like Master Mummy. Thought his slow but powerful style was something I wouldn't like in a game like this but he was fun to play.

My favourites have to be Min Min and Ribbon Girl. They were both so much fun to play as. Especially Ribbon Girl with the slapamander arms.

got only 65 before the end. i am terrible in 2 vs. 2. got some good wins in 1v1v1 by just trying to avoid the fighting as much as possible and then attacking weakened fighters.

volleyball sucks.

not a fan of fighting games so will probably not buy this, but maybe down the line if nintendo ever realises the value of discounts.

Damn that was fun! Looking forward to playing more demos later.

It's really great when you have an opponent that knowa what it's doing. I fought a Minmin earlier that I can't hit because it dodges and kicks so well. If it wasn't for my desperation flaming punch hitting her it would have been a perfect game for her. I'll try practicing dashing and jumping more.

That was pretty fun. Not sure about having really long sessions with it but as a 30 mins a day sorta thing it should be good. Not sold on the volleyball, but the regular fighting is really tight. The motion controls are good, it also helped once I learned how to switch between fighters in multi-battle modes lol.

I loved it. Never felt like I quite fully grasped it, but I definitely could feel both me and my opponents getting better as the hour went on.

Top two characters right now are Min-Min and Ninjara

Hot tip: If you are playing with a Pro Controller, use the triggers to punch instead of the face buttons. Much more natural and easier to keep one finger on the face buttons dedicated to jump and dash.

Holy hell this game is amazing. My heart was racing at some points, my hands were shacking, too. It was really exciting. Also FUCK FFA. 2v2 also kinda sucks.

But 1v1? FREAKING AMAZING. Also the motion controls were great, and my arms aren't tired in the slightest.

Kicked ass for an hour! That was way more fun than I would have thought. Not so sure about volley ball. It was fun, it just felt a little iffy on controlling the ball.

Hated the motion controls, thought the pro controller setup was much better though the button mapping was strange. Managed to win more than I lost with Min Min! It's fun but I'm not sure it's $60 worth of fun yet.

That was fun! Its a bit confusing at first but I started playing it as a tank and it clicked, Min Min is great, I think I'll be using her.

It says so in the controls, press a "d-pad" button.

I had one game where it was 0-2 in volleyball, and my teammate disconnects. Then, no balls spawn, and all 3 of us are punching the air until the timer runs out and I lose.

Otherwise, great game! Kinda hate how movement is tied to directing punches with motion controls. It's not as great as Splatoon's motion. I'll stick to Pro for now.

Volleyball may be hard to master, but it's actually pretty simple. Remember that you can give a direction to your punches and that you can move in the arena. It's important to be near or away the net according to the situation.

Ended up being really fun to play.

I had high hopes for volleyball but ended up hating it, because I could never aim at the ball, my character would always look the wrong way. Maybe I played it wrong.
And I HATE 3 player free for all. aka "Hope you're not the one getting double-teamed", which I always was unless I purposely backed out and let them 1v1 (for an easy win, tactics). And my last three matches in a row prior to the testpunch ending were 3FFA :/

But 1v1 is super addicting and 2v2 was surprisingly fun too.

One thing I had trouble with were grabs; I constantly threw both punches at the same time and kept ending up throwing two punches together instead of a grab. Must be some extra technique to it.

If you're holding the joy-cons correctly (the analog sticks should be facing each other), you move by tilting both controllers in the desired directions.

You don't hold the controllers like you would in most games.

The menu where the players are getting matched up is really cool. Its really nice seeing the status of other matches in real time while you rest up before the next match which i appreciated since I was using the motion controls for the full hour.

I ended with like 15 credits. Didn't win a single match. It seemed like the block was inconsistent—maybe my joycons? A couple of matches I could not move at all except for punching. I was stuck uselessly at the corner of a net for an entire v ball match. When the controls worked they seemed intuitive and responsive, but sometimes I could not perform the actions I wanted to. Punching always worked, at least.

Game is fairly fun. Only played with traditional controls but I had no problems keeping up with anyone. Got to 90 something points before the disconnect, highest in the lobby that I could see. Volleyball is okay, free for all is good, teams is a lot of fun but one on one is probably my favourite. Had quite a few strategic fights compared to everyone just going crazy in the free for all matches. On the probably will buy list, just waiting to see how repeat sessions hold up first.
