ARMS Global Testpunch Thread: Let's see if this has LEGS

I have only played with the Pro Controller so far and don't even want to try the motion controls. This works well. I only wish I could remap block. I use ZL and ZR to punch so putting it on A or B would be great.

I was bullish on this game, but I find it incredibly beginner unfriendly. I got pinned down into a corner from a distance by a Minmin with lasers and I couldn't get even get close enough for my own shorter arms to connect. The tank controls don't help either. Also whenever I charge my super it just randomly aims in between two fighters, whereas people have no difficulty unloading their full super onto me. It's a bit better in grip or handheld mode, but not even half the fun.

I'll get the game anyway because I want to support games that are so fresh, but a Splatoon this game is not. I used to think 8M, but now I'm thinking more 2-3M.

as mechanica i had the triple shot and the bomba. couldn't touch min, they just dodge dodge dodge and spaced me out. couldn't touch them.

Thought that might be me. If you played with an 'Alyssa' in recent players, then it was. lol

I'm loving Minmin. And love getting paired with other Minmins for a Minmin-Minmin combo \o/

1) It's stupid not to be able to play offline to experiment with the controls before getting knocked down by people that already know everything

2) I'm tried of people who only know how to grab, and that may be because they weren't able to experiment more and have good tutorials

3) 1 vs 1 vs 1 is stupid since you can't easily turn back or move, it's a mess

Not going to buy this if there's not an offline demo where I can learn how to play properly. It isn't Mario Kart

terrible experience for a first time player--controls were just bad (motion)

shame because it seems like there's a good game there but the learning curve is rough

I keep winning 1v1v1 and 1v1v1v1,

I am the king at taking advantage of people.

Also min min, love ya girl but you got to find a life outside of noodles.

I wonder how many people out there have a bad first impression with the motion controls and never try it with a normal controller.

Plug those joycons into the handle and get back in there, man!

Got my first Perfect in a 1v1v1 as Spring Man (versus another one, and a Mummy Master). I also didn't even cheese it by staying away from the action and remained engaged the whole match.

Then won a 2v2 when my partner and I got the enemy team low, but my partner got knocked out during his Super, and I had to finish it.

Against expectations, Ribbon Girl is my jam.

I don't think me and motion controls will end up as friends anytime soon. My Punches don't connect very often and my movement seems impaired. I'll stick with the controller for the time being, when the real game arrives I'll try out the Single Player mode to get better used to the joycons.

Where is the training room where you can learn normal controls once you've done it with the motion controls ?

Also played 4FFA for the first time. That was insanely fun. Almost like it has a meta game of alliances and betrayal, as you never want one person to have a great lead over others. I edged out a timed win by doing a throw at the last second.

She's who I've spent the most time with. I like her.

It seems Mummy is gonna be my main. I seem to kick some ass with him.

He's a powerhouse, but Ribbon Girl wrecks him, I haven't found a way to deal with her double jump and then grip yet, mummy is too slow to evade and the punches won't go up so you can only block the grip with your fists when it's almost to late...

Ninjara is also quite the problem, as he moves so fast, grabbing him is almost impossible, so don't even try.

Love them all, each character and arm is unique. Yes, I do feel like I spam sometimes, but also not, I feel like I'm strategizing too.

I did have one match where there was a lot of lag, and I was landing punches that didn't land, and we both came to be the winners...

Game confirmed to be opposite of Mario Party.

There is none, however it's pretty self explanatory, you can review controls under help(the only button but party mode that isn't greyed out). You can punsh with L and R too by the way, no need to use the clunky face buttons for it.

Game confirmed to be opposite of Mario Party.

It's also the opposite of Mario Kart in terms of fair game design.

I think the testpunch has done its job on me. I wasn't interested in the game but thought I might as well try it out while this is running. After some initial trouble connecting to my wifi network, I had about 5 or 6 matches. All very smooth and no issues once I was in except actually winning a match (which I did in my last one). It was still fun though. I thought the motion controls worked well once I started to get used to them. I just need to learn to block more.

I'm now tempted to pick it up on launch.

I'm in love with this game, but volleyball is pure garbage
If someone doesn't know how to play VB is stupid easy to cheese. Jump, throw (set up spike) the immediately punch. Just use fast weapons and you can get instant points, lol
Edit: this is specifically 1v1 VB

There's a trick to winning volleyball guys, just look where your opponent is standing and hit that ball into the opposite corner right when it spawns, you'd be surprised how many 5:0 I did within 20 seconds with that tactic. It only works after scoring the first point though, as everyone will be standing in the middle at the start. It's also harder in 2v2 volleyball but is still viable.

Something I just discovered with the volleyball; you can send punches to the ball when it's on the opponents' side if you can fit them through at either end of the net, so in between the rope holding it up basically.

another great round of arms. went with black alt ribbon girl again because she's the best. love that slappamander. was messing around with the popper too which I like quite a bit.

such a great color scheme

Hated motion controls as they didn't work much for moving. Probably an issue with the signal cutting out. Wish there was a fix for that

Loved the game though. I'll still keep my preorder. It was fine with traditional controls too.

Really fun session this morning. 3-4 good players in my lobby, including a great Japanese player who was maining Ribbon Girl/Ninjara.

Had a couple razor-close matches with both of us doing a bunch of dodging each other's attacks where we both had a sliver of health left as the timer got down to single digits. Great rivalry as we traded the lobby lead back and forth.

I think I'm semi-decent at 5 characters now (everyone except Mechania and Helix).

Did a couple runs with Ninjara and Master Mummy today.

Can be min min players stop using the dragon when im 2vs 2 in vball? thanks

Not only its shit, they usally hit me. I have to carry them in vball always, at least i can win without her help, but damn.

Got in a match with a few people that had double dragon arms, and they'd just kinda spam away with the beams. It didn't seem like a very viable tactic to me, since without another arm to distract or hit me, I was able to easily dodge every attack.

Mech girl's double hammers on the other hand... how annoying.

I find it interesting how many people go double of a weapon. For the most part I find them easier to deal with at least.

Missed the first thirty minutes. Win every game except one of the firsts because I was sitting down and about two in a FFA because I was ganged up on :'(

Finally got in after my slow internet finally downloaded everything.

Got to play two matches: won the first, double KO on my second.

Seems like there will be a ton of different ARMS to unlock.

Feeling in the minority but this has actually pushed me further away from a purchase. Could not get a feel for the motion controls no matter how I held the joycons which meant my experience has been getting my ass handed to me while I try to work it out. They should have included an offline practice. Could use my pro controller but this game if any screams dual joycons. Don't get me wrong I had some fun but not £50 worth

It really should recommend triggers as the default input for punches. Feels much more sensible.
