Is this against a Ninjara? I don't know why, but at one moment, Ninjara was really popular and they were all using the same technic.
They wait for you to attack, they avoid it and then do a grab.
My technic, send me slow punch, wait for them to do their slide and then throw my light quick punch to counter the grab.
Really enjoying my time with arms this weekend. After last weekend I was thinking of cancelling my preorder but everything has clicked this time around. I still get a bit frustrated with the motion controls from time to time but that's because in tense situations I stop focusing on how I'm holding the joycons and things get out of control. When I'm focuses everything goes exactly as it should.
I feel like Headlock isn't really balanced right between its different forms.
No, Ninjara was what everyone was at first using it for. But Grab for days is a solid way to win with any character. You can grab a person, then grab them right as they get up, and over and over.
Oh, also, managed to beat the boss once! It was my Twintelle and two Ninjaras. It was awesome.
Its broken even when I'm the one using it to win. Which is just as often
Although I suck a the game, I had a great time. I don't play online multiplayer a lot these days because I'm fed up with people shouting at me. So actually I'm quite happy that the MP is silent. Must sound silly, I know
Turns out I just suck at hoops. Shut out twice in a row. Feels bad man.
Sure, but its WAY to easy to abuse it and just grab your way to victory.
Huh, so it seems I figured out regular controls too. Not sure which I like more, tbh.
They both have their advantages.
They are not bad, I think the RNG for mode selection is tilted towards them this weekend (never saw it last weekend). Haven't seen any volleyball this weekend either...The really need to tone down the Hedlok fights. Twice in a row on Ninjara's stage is fucking ridiculous. At least it was Level 4 the second time so it was actually beatable.
I think grabs are really bad tbh. It's super hard to actually land one in neutral, I pretty much only punish other throws or followup electric with it.
IDK how to describe it better than this, but I felt like I had more control over my movement and jumping/dodging with traditional controls, while I had more control over my punches and their directionality with motion controls. What advantages do traditional controls have? I never really used them.

omg just tried Ribbon girl for the first time and she's absolutely broken, I feel sorry for everyone who played against me tonight.

I 👏 SUCK 👏 AT 👏 THIS 👏 GAME
I can't seem to get the timing right. I dodge, grab back, miss/deflect, then get grabbedTwintelle new main.
You people against grabber, dodge and grab back, its quite easy against spammers.
Yeah I gave it one more shot. Fourth testpunch and I didn't even finish it. I'm just not having fun.
Motion controls are nice sometimes, but bad enough times that it's not skill if you win maybe a quarter of the time. I throw punches when I meant to block, throws when I mean to punch, etc. Curving the pinches doesn't feel great either because there's only a few arms that actually curve with any significance. The better I get at the controls and more I understand them, the more it feel completely lacking.
The traditional controls were designed by someone who maybe has never seen a controller before? In both modes, tying your movement to the same control as directing punches is absolutely insane. You have two sticks and individual motion for the joycons and two sticks and singular motion w traditional and the best most fun feeling control they can come up with is to have to stop moving to control where your punch goes? I can't break my instinct to use the right stick to control my punches because it just makes sense.l, instead of fighting the controls to do any single thing I actually want to do.
The only mode that feels like there's real strat is one on one, or free for all too actually. The 2v2 w the rope is stupid unless you can communicate. You just wind up flying around and you're so close to your teammate you're just gonna get hit by an errant arm. Maybe it's better w communication but as there isn't any online it just feels like a game of get lucky and not get bit by random punches.
Boss fights are bleh, the punches are so fast it's not like you can Dodge much or anything, though this might be because I have a hard time blocking w motion because it always throws out a grab and in traditional control blocking is pressing on the stick which is hard to do in the moment.
Volleyball doesn't feel consistent at all. Bball barely has come up but the fact that actual throws don't always equal a pt is just randomness. (Yeah I know closer is better, but it's still random).
I'm sorry I'm ranting in a thread where the majority like it. I really want to like it. I love the premise and the promise of what the game should be, but it's not clicking for me at all. It feels clunky and random. Maybe I'll get it down the road and it'll click for me then. Or maybe they'll update the game with traditional controls that make sense or a hybrid control where you can use the pro controller gyro, that would be awesome and actually make use of the features of these controllers in a way that works for the game the best and most fun way.
I hope I'm just not getting it and I'm horribly wrong and two weeks from now I come back apologizing for being stupid. I really want to enjoy this but it's just pure frustration.

I felt the opposite, so your response is very interesting to me.Easier to block with less mistakes and easier to move (more of advantage I think in V-Ball over all other modes because of the camera. I can move just fine in other modes with motion.). Easier to switch targets as well because of the button layout. Actual attacks and I would say dodging and jumping is easier with motion.
More perfects than ever that round, but apparently I don't know how to play Hoops, considering my opponent bounced off the rim three times in a row.
People really need to stop grabbing Hedlok.
Had a lot of fun with Twintelle this time. Umbrella in the left and regular fist in the right. That freeze charge is a lot of fun.
Nailed a few perfects.
