Michael Bluth: So this is the magic trick, huh?
George Oscar 'Gob' Bluth: Illusion, Michael. A trick is something a whore does for money...

I like how the pilot finished that joke differently from the version that aired. The version that aired said "Or candy!" but the pilot has Gob say "Or cocaine!" in just as sing-songy a voice. :P

Oh wow. I never noticed that one.

I've watched the whole thing through at least 6 times now. Such an amazing show. I have, at times, thought other comedies matched it. Party Down, Freaks and Geeks. But Arrested Development has such staying power. As others have said, you can discover new jokes in every episode and even repeated jokes are miraculously hilarious. The littlest fucking things get me:

As for season 3: it's fantastic. I'd argue seasons 1 and 2 are both perfect. Season 3 isn't as good, but compared to 99% of TV it's still top tier.

To anyone who wants a truly good show from one of the other cast members (since Running Wilde was a disappointment): check out The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret. It's David Cross being pathetic again and Will Arnett plays an awesome douchebag.

Maybe this was obvious and I could be wrong, but is it Buster and the nurse-that-loves coma victims in that old fashioned war bit, where the guy says "I'll put a fag in my mouth and think of you"? Because if it was, then it's pretty funny that the same two people say the same thing later in the season in modern day.

I knew they repeated the line, but I just realized it's actually them :)

Arrested Development is amazing. It is great to see a new thread about it every few weeks. Only for the fact I must watch it when it gets mentioned. Every time I watch it gets even better.

It's pretty frustrating to see a very watered down version of Arrested Development (Modern Family) become hugely successful while Arrested Development remains relatively obscure.

Not that Modern Family is bad. It's a good show. But it was clearly inspired by AD and doesn't come remotely close to being as good.

Modern Family's loose mockumentary style definitely feels like AD, but other than that I think it's much different. The actual plotting, characters, and jokes feel much more like a traditional family sitcom, where AD was way more off-the-wall and layered.

The only sitcom since Arrested Development to come close to being as good is Better Off Ted and that only made it to half as many episodes.

Personally, I'd say Parks and Recreation is the best American sitcom since AD.

I need to get on this show, I watched about 6 episodes and then dropped it for no reason. It hadn't blown me away yet, but I definitely didn't dislike it.
Parks is up there, don't know about 30 Rock though. I love the show, don't get me wrong. But unlike Parks, it completely ignores heart and just goes for joke density. And even then, it doesn't get near the joke density of AD.
