Assassin's Creed 3 E3 Gameplay Video

You'll probably kill Americans too, though they haven't shown that in any of the promo material so far. I always thought the Assassins were neutral.

Me too. This one seems very "get the redcoats" though.

Although to be honest I am not that interested in killing Americans either (Anglo/American here).

Killing some good guys or the other good guys doesnt really appeal to me.

Hm... you don't want to kill guys, I see. Seems like a game with Assassin in the title doesn't seem to be for you...

Sorry I cant enjoy a game where killing Brits is how you win. Same reason I could never get into Silent Hunter in the Atlantic. Too much patriotism for my own good.

Shame as I enjoyed the rest of the series, have to skip this one.

gameplay looks fantastic, everything he does seems so fluid and natural - makes ezio look like a clumsy bum

Ability to duck and corner cover kills. This is starting to turn into a stealth game.

Really?
I never had trouble killing Nazis. lol

And I'm sure that even Russians are playing Call of Duty

Well I dont want to kill these guys no. Shrug. It is what it is. Somewhat bizzarely I will have no problem playing Hitman.

Anyways, dont want to piss on other peoples enjoyment. The game looks good, hope you guys dig it. That setting just is not for me I guess.

Wow, the tree branches actually do move in the Wii U version. I wish it ran at 60 fps, but it's still beautiful.

Love the new blend mechanic by crossing your arms and leaning against a cart, that's badass!

heh now im curious, i'm british too and dont have an issue with it, its only a game
and you'll be killing templars who are everywhere, not just one side

i think i would even be ok with shooting people that resembled friends and family in a game
knowing my friends and family we'd probably have a blast

hopefully the pc version should be solid as always, max payne 3 was incredibly optimized, i hope this is too
1080p @ 120fps - hhhnnngggg

I believe it was said that there are Templars on both sides, so you will be killing Patriots too.

Nothing wrong with that. Everyone has their own threshold with what they are comfortable doing in a game.

I wouldn't write it off entirely though, if you enjoyed the others in the series. I'm hopeful with this outing that we'll have even more stealth-like options (i.e. - less random killing) to utilize. I loved using smoke bombs in Rev. And as others mentioned, there are baddies on both sides.

Thanks, yeah I will stay tuned. I love the stealth stuff. Maybe the in game stuff will be more about various people rather than nation based which might be good.

So.. what do you want? Press A to jump?

Or you have no ideas and just wont ever be appeased because you don't know what you like.

Seems pretty simple, he wants a game that demands more than the ability to hold a button and forward at the same time.

I'm playing 1 right now and actually enjoying it, so I'm guessing I'll love 2. The setting is really cool, and while there's not much to see exploring the cities is really cool. The different people walking around, people giving speeches, it feels really fleshed out compared to a lot of open-world games.

I'm sure this was cut for maximum action but if the games become "Follow this rigid path" I'd be disappointed.

Looks like it's chugging a bit though, PS3/ 360 showing their age. I wonder if PS4/ 720 will get ports of games like this that tried to bite off a bit more than they could chew, or with minor updates even if they ran well on current gen systems. Sort of like 360 got ports of American Wasteland, Most Wanted, Gun, King Kong, etc. when it launched.

Still really impressed by how damn good this looks.
Also, like somebody said earlier in this thread, glad to see they're adding more stealth elements.

Can't wait to have this on my PC guyzzzz

You see at the end of the CG trailer that he opens the guy's coat, sees a Templar chain, and kills him.

Washington looked worried to me, as if he knew he might be next. Or he just had glued lips:p Honestly his face looked crappy.

They keep saying that we will be killing people on both sides but so far we only see the British being killed. I think they should show us killing some Americans just to put peoples minds at ease.

Though personally I don't really care what side the people I kill are on, as long as they're templars. :)

Wow, I can't really remember the last time a gameplay video has impressed me this much -- the Naval Warfare Battle in Assassins Creed 3 is incredible. Especially in the beginning, where the player navigates around some land while trying to catch up with another boat -- I assume that this is real time player controlled, not QTE, and it's just amazing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpBL-g9-Ss4&feature=relmfu here if you haven't seen it yet.

Assassins Creed 3 is supposed to have a very large open world map, which includes a massive open world FOREST area where you can climb trees. Plus several towns and such. And now they have revealed some spectacular naval warfare? I'm not sure if they would even have time to expand a lot on the naval gameplay, but the scenario the demo showcases is truly spectacular in and of itself.

The fact that you, the player, get to steer a MASSIVE boat with loads of NPC's working the cannons is truly incredible. If they expanded the boat gameplay to, say, some exploration, perhaps, then Assassins Creed 3 would be one epic game. IE; Like, you get the boat and some crewmembers, and then you start exploring the sea -- eventually, you could, for example, find some islands, park the large boat, and use one of the smaller rowboats to get ashore and explore one of the islands. The islands could be randomly generated with some random wildlife even, and it would be amazing.

I always go out of my way to ensure that I avoid killing innocents during assassination/stealth games, but I got another approach when it comes to the Assassins Creed series. In the historical setting everything has already happened within the game universe. All you are doing is to relive the past through virtual simulation, you can't save anyone since they have already been dead for hundreds of years. As a result I have no problem killing anyone. Assassination targets, soldiers, and civilians are all disposable as long as I am playing as one of Desmonds ancestors. Could never have done the same though if you actually decided whether people lived or died within the game universe.

But he might have secret wishes that it never happened...

That's actually a great way to look at it.

Has anyone noticed that it has lost a lot of the stealth and now is just pretty much a hack and slash. I'm not even sure how they can call it Assassin's Creed anymore. I hope they just took out the action segments for the conference. It would have been much better if it was still set someplace in Europe. There didn't seem to be that amazing atmosphere that the first two games had. The main character also seems like he's too serious. I wish they made another easy-going character. I'm just taking this from the conference footage, so hopefully it's a lot different.

All of the gameplay footage has been impressive. This series has come a long way, though I would've preferred if they had stuck to the core principle of the original and removed everything that sucked.

They are apathetic with regards to political ideologies, but they do have a side. Assassins vs Templars. Whoever is Templar is working against them. From the looks of it, it seems like Red Coats are an obvious choice of Templars, or their generals/leaders are. Pretty sure there are some Templars in Continental army too. Remember, Dr Warren Vidic is also a Templar.

I mentioned it in another thread, but I went to the Ubisoft AC3 demo today, and it was absolutely amazing.

I've always been a fan of the series, so it's not like they needed to do much to convert me, but I was just really, really impressed by the improvements they've implemented in AC3.

I thought the facial animation was much better compared to Brotherhood (the last AC I played). The visuals were good, with smooth transition animations, and the detail of environments was typical AC impressive.

The combat looked really fun and fluid, and I liked the move to a non-traditional setting. The forest areas look like they'll be a lot of fun to traverse. I'm pumped.

Another off-screen Wii-U video. I'm not sure if it's the camera or what but the framerate looks like garbage compared to the other versions.

EDIT: Here's a comparison: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2012-assassins-creed/731114

EHHH...where the Wii U version dropped frames was in the marketplace, we didn't see that in the PS3 version you linked to.

Frankly the Wii U footage looks like it performs like how AssCreed games have on the PS3. :P The platforming on the ships btw at the end looked spectacular. The animation looks so natural, makes previous AssCreed games look stiff as fuck...which they always did to be honest.

This E3 has convinced me that my next-gen dollars are better spent on a new graphics card for my PC. Every time the player moves the camera on that WiiU video the framerate dips.

Although, that camera movement shows something interesting. I think they've updated the control scheme so you can sprint without having to hold R1 and X at all times. You can see the player moving the camera while sprinting (which he couldn't do if he was holding X) and now there's a Jump prompt on the HUD (B button, which is the same spot as X on a PS3 controller). In the previous Assassin's Creeds you only jog when you hold R1, you have to hold both buttons to sprint. Baby steps, sure, but maybe one day Assassin's Creed will have a control scheme intuitive enough that you won't need button prompts on the HUD 100% of the time.

Looks excellent but not anything to convince you if already tired of the formula (and really, there's other games for that). The sailing part was very impressive but it's still mostly about angling your ship and firing the right type of ammo. I'm sounding overly harsh though, it's an amazing package and these guys are competing for the number one spot in technology this gen.

It looks as if AC has gone in the opposite direction from what I'd hoped. It would be nice to have more stealth and less open combat. The focus on direct confrontation in the trailer and the gameplay footage has me worried.

The lack of a neutral approach to the historical matter is also a little disappointing. I really liked that aspect of the original Assassin's Creed, and the wide range of viewpoints it gave. It's particularly strongly missed now given the conflict being depicted. I don't think I could play through The Patriot: The Game.

It's too bad, but I don't think I'm interested in this game, despite how hyped I was after reading reactions in the Ubisoft conference thread.

I've seen so many complaining about the fact that most promos show a large number of targets being British. WHO CARES? It's a game. Jeez. At least this isn't nearly as bad as the absolutely heinous racism allegations at RE5.

I still can't believe capcom actually caved into that and made a ton of random white enemies that looked extremely out of place.

Forgive me, but I just don't feel that American jingoism is very appealing. The theme is shallow and boring if that's all there is to it. I see nothing wrong with hoping the characters are more nuanced than has been shown. Thus far, the British look like moustache-twirling villains.

Given the Ubisoft Montreal's history, I have faith that there's more to the story and their characters than has been shown. My personal bet is that the purely American viewpoint of the gameplay has been a marketing choice. Assuming that's the case, and the PC version is not gimped (this is Ubisoft, after all), I'll probably pick it up eventually.

In the gamespot live show, he seemed to suggest that it was an integral (and pretty big) part of the game, so hopefully we'll have planty of it.
After watching the ship gameplay again, I noticed that some of the guys seem to jump to the british ship in a similar way as Connor is. Maybe the game will have a recruiting system similar to the Brotherhood, just this time your picking your crew.

In the Boston video you can see Connor calling 4 guys dressed as solidiers and the pretend he has captured to bypass some guards.

A couple things from GameSpot's preview:

http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6380801/a-further-five-cool-things-in-assassins-creed-iii

About ships:
There are a couple of ship-based outings in the main storyline, says lead game designer Steve Masters, but lots more in side missions.

About recruits:
New in the brotherhood's repertoire, though, is an ability that lets a recruit disguise himself in an appropriate guard uniform.

In the E3 demo, we see Connor's four recruits arrive dressed as British Redcoats and form up as a walking cluster--exactly the kind inside which assassins can hide themselves. With Connor walking in the centre, posing as a captive, the apprentices can escort their master straight past real guards that would otherwise block the path or make trouble for unblended assassins.

Will there still be a market of some sort? I guess so, but I don't think you will still be able to buy armour.

Hopefully you can purchase other stuff than just upgrades for your weapons.

Edit: Just saw the naval warfare video. Hopefully you'll be able to upgrade your ship as well!

I have AC1 2 and Brotherhood

I liked what I see here. Maybe I´ll pick up revelations and play that in the summer for a weekend!

I like that, definitely a more plausible way than hiding between prostitutes.

btw. I remembered that that Shaun guy is actually British. I bet that he'll be there to clarify things a little and to show that both parties had their negative and positive sides
