The Assassin's Creed movie's executive producer has revealed the proportion of time spent in the film's two time periods - and they're not necessarily what people expected.

Speaking to IGN on a recent set visit, EP Pat Crowley said that the video game adaptation would be set 65% in the present day and 35% in the film's Animus-assisted 15th Century Spain.

(...)

“There are certain things that we absolutely want to respect in the game," he told IGN, "but we also want to bring new elements to the game [...] This isn’t a video game that we’re making. We’re trying to make a cinematic experience, so there are new things that we have to introduce.”

"Well, consumers are going to have a hard time understanding why he spends so much time in the past (the main conceit of the series), so let's reduce that as much as possible."

Ah man why the fuck would you focus on the most boring parts of the games even Ubi aren't that stupid anymore.

What does this even mean?

...I guess i'm the only one that really enjoyed the sci-fi present day Abstergo stuff from the AC games

I think they're trying to avoid the box office flop that was Prince of Persia by adding in more modern elements

I never minded the modern day stuff that much in the games (only played up to ACIV), but it was always best in small doses. This is totally the wrong way to go about it.

You aren't. I really enjoyed the modern elements until
Desmond died.
After that the entire AC storyline became trash.

Would have been more interesting as 95% past, 5% present (occasional glitches with a full reveal at end).

You and me both. The future segments have always been the worst part of Assassin's Creed games.
Thankfully this is a movie and thus freed from the constraints of having to making those gameplay sections engaging, and can focus on making that timeframe narratively-engaging

Aka one shouldn't be so quick to judgement

Seems like "bleeding effect" might be a big part of the story. Have Fassbender's character placed in the animus and he brings those skills back into the present. Similar to what happen to Desmond in Assassin's Creed 3 where there were a number of present day missions. Those were interesting I felt, to see the assassin skills applied to modern locations, etc. That could be really interesting and cool in the film. This shouldn't automatically be looked at as a negative.

I don't want this movie to simply be an adaption of the games. It should bring something new to the table and it looks like it is. If one wants exactly what the games offered they can and should play the games or watch youtube play throughs. This should be it's own thing while staying true to the material. Staying true to the source material though shouldn't make it be a 1:1 copy of it though.

We don't know the story of the movie. The whole point of the animus though is to get knowledge from the past to be used in the present. That so little is done with the present in the games has been a problem with the games' narrative I felt. It's not a bad idea though. Just because one feels it wasn't handled well in the game (for a number of reasons) doesn't mean it won't work here.

This just seems to be completely missing the point of the series. It's like making a Doom movie without demons, or a gritty and realistic Mario movie.
