Unity reveal was awesome, this reveal was appaling. What kind of hype do they expect to create with this?.
Yup that is assassin's creed. They need to bring more new elements to the table. Copy the nemesis system or something.
Assassins Creed: I do not car(riag)e anymore.
Trailer did not sell me the game at all. Looks like the same old stuff. I'll skip this one.
Only positive thing I could find: They decreased the NPC count to improve performance.
What's so frustrating with Assassin's Creed is how little they care about evolving their own genre. Assassin's Creed 2 was released 6 years ago, and yet we still have the exact same game getting repeated year over year.
At least Call of Duty tries some different stuff, even if it's more gimmicky than anything, they're at least trying.
Here are some things to try out:
Anyways, I'm not buying another Assassin's Creed until they have a 90+ metacritic again. It's just too long and too boring for me to care, and there are too many decent games out there for me to waste my time on shit I've seen before.
- Have a genuine open world. Assassin's Creed games are pitched as "open world fun," but their open world nature has fallen way behind. Rarely do you stumble on something worth exploring or doing. Contrast this with something like GTA V or Skyrim, where the open worlds add depth by giving you new areas to explore, stunts to try, things to do, and side-quests to pitch in on.
- Vary combat. It's weird to me that in previous AC games, your dagger functioned identical to a sword. It's weird that "bosses"/"targets" were taken down in the exact same way. Contrast this to Shadows of Mordor, which wasn't great, but at least had some modifiers that forced you to think through how to take down a target. Or Arkham games, which give you new tools you have to use as you progress.
- Cohesive story. Way too often do Assassin's Creed narratives wander into just totally off-topic or boring. Black Flag was an amazing game, but that didn't stop the narrative from dragging on and becoming lazy.
We do?Lastly, now that Victorian London is becoming the in-thing, I feel Americans' pain when non-Americans try and write characters of your nationality.
Routine. Sad.most gaffers maybe, but what do hardcore-passionnate gamers weigh against more casual that buy AC every year, or GTA/Watch Dogs/FIFA/COD (best selling games in 2014) ? They are the people who allow these sales and they will be hyped, even if they heard or saw the glitches and issues in AC:Unity.
In other words, gaf can complain, but lots of gafers don't play AC since several episodes (or just play once in a while), and gaf and gaf-like gamers are not the target of Ubisoft. Otherwise you wouldn't see the same business model anymore (look at Ubisoft profit this year)
Instead of adding more and more, it's more like they're switching stuff around, like a roster.Well I mean, they aren't amazing but AC has become a decent $20 franchise.
Well. The big problem with AC is that at this point the franchise needed an evolution. Some big step forward to make it feel new and fresh again. Instead, Ubisoft is just sticking with the gimmick game mechanics. It doesn't feel like a franchise that grows, evolves and becomes better with every new game (or couple of games), Instead it feels like they are almost the same game with some "unique" gimmick to make it different. Unity had large crowds and crappy co-op missions, and now in this one it seems to be a grappling hook and carriages.
Which is funny because they're sure not trying to make this closer to a murder simulator. The best step forward was the whole pirate adventure thing in Black Flag. But they, understandably, don't want to turn AC into a Pirate (or ship) focused franchise so it was en evolution to the formula that couldn't stay. Which really makes me wish Black Flag had been a new IP instead
This is the sign that the Ubisoft devs don't really know what they're doing.
That game looks like a downgrade from Unity. Yes is that bad....
It looks... surprisingly (unsurprisingly?) like every other Ubisoft sandbox game. Slum fight won! Light it up on the map. That's now your slum. Yay!
And graphically - based on this video - it appears to be inferior to Unity. Wonder why that is.
Seriously, that's what makes him generic? Being white is generic now. Learning some batshit crazy stuff everyday.
Skyrim I agree.[*] Have a genuine open world. Assassin's Creed games are pitched as "open world fun," but their open world nature has fallen way behind. This bit made me laugh out loud for some reason.

I never understood the "pre-alpha" term regarding game marketing.
"Alpha" is when you have very few objects, basic AI, few locations and no way to actually play and complete that biuld as a game. When it's playable, it's "beta".
Then why the heck does that "pre-alpha" term is being used so many times in such a wrong meaning?
This franchise was never supposed to be yearly. It could have been something special, but they fucked up
Coming from Ubisoft is really strange that they are not showing a bullshot video, maybe they are aiming 60 fps this time... Also that "Pre-Alpha" runs pretty solid, lol.Well, it's Pre-Alpha footage. Perhaps they aim for stable 30 fps and 1080p and scaled down the number of details?
Im guessing there will be a lot of carriage racing. Why are the roads so wide?
Yep. The thing is, it doesn't have to be a HUGE refresh. It just has to be a smart one. One that actually has an effect on gameplay. The boat in Black Flag for example was a perfect example of that. The core mechanics of the game were the same, but the setting allowed it to feel fresh.Yup, that's Assassin's Creed alright. Just skip a year or two and actually come up with something new Ubisoft, this is getting really tiring.
