Deadline reports $27M+ for midnight.

That puts it #4 all time. Well ahead of The Dark Knight and The Avengers but behind Twilight and Potter.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, $43.5 million
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn—Part 1, $30.3 million
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, $30 million
The Dark Knight Rises $27
The Twilight Saga: New Moon, $26.3 million
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, $24 million
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, $22.2 million
The Hunger Games, $19.7 million
The Avengers, $18.7 million
The Dark Knight, $18.5 million
Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith, $16.9 million

I still can't see TDKR topping Avengers OW, but I DO think its going to get a LOT closer than many people think.

hmm, i wonder if the recent events will make people stay away from theaters at least for the weekend.

of course this is not really important right now.

That would be really odd. The theater this happened at is in a sketchy part of town and has had shootings and robberies in the past. It has as much to do with batman as any mass shooting.

Does everyone agree that TA will be relatively strong on Saturday and Sunday than DKR? By that I mean DKR could have bigger Saturday and Sunday numbers but I think TA Saturday and Sunday will be a greater percentage of its take based on it being a more family friendly movie.

Really? I have to imagine this is going to have a pretty sizable effect on TDKR's BO, the Paris premiere was already put off.

I suspect batman will win.

Reports from deadline, and bomojo are more optimistic than they were for avengers

I don't think it is at all a given yet. The Avengers only made $18.7M in midnight numbers but motored on through the rest of the weekend to get to $207M. The early BO reports for the Avengers pegged its take at $150M and the estimates continued to rise all the way through the announcement of the official number on Monday.

fucking batman LOL

his power is winning. Ill check this out, i wonder if there will be a hobbit/superman trailer or teaser attached to this.

It all depends on word of mouth and whether people like it as much as they liked Avengers.

True. This will also matter even more from Monday on.

On that note, given that it is July, DKR should certainly take over the top 1st week gross from TA.

With the Denver shooting incident at hand, does anyone think this will play a factor on all boxoffice revenue this weekend?

Its stupid to even speculate about this but yeah I think it will. Tons of people won't go out of respect, fear, or just be turned off right now and wait till later.

Yes, it will. Absolutely no doubt it will have an affect. The question is, how much?

OT. Such a senseless fucking waste of life.

After hearing the news , I was very angry and made my mind then and there that an enclosed enviorment is not where I want to be at.Well other than my house.

WB has canceled the premiere in France.

Quite depressing situation, it was supposed to be a joyous occasion. Damned crazy fuck. Since this is the a BO thread, by two cents is that the movie will be deeply affected by the shooting.

i dont see this being the case personally. im not sure what it is people would be afraid of. a copycat?

as for BO, i think avengers will come out on top (615 mil, like damn) but both will be fantastic, awesome movies.

I think instead of being more front loaded, Batman will have strong legs as people come to terms and eventually see the movie. I expect a decent drop this weekend.

Security is def gonna be heavy at large events though. Apparently causing a ripple effect at various events around the world. If the extra security b/c an annoyance (depending on the procedures implemented) then additional ppl maybe turned off

Logically, it should have no effect at all, but people will react badly for sure. How long until a conspiracy theorist suggests that Whedon hired the gunman or something equally absurd?

I already heard on the news some parents not allowing their kids to go now.

The money is irrelevant now. WB should refrain from even reporting the returns this weekend.

I don't know about that. I wouldn't look on WB negative for reporting box office returns. As horrible as the situation is in Denver, I don't think they are going to stop the entire marketing machine on this film. Box office press announcements are part of that machine.

Either way, I'm curious to see how they handle it.
